The specific argument of the film about climate change communication is that there was no consensus on climate change. Framing is defined as an “interpretive storyline that communicates what is at stake in a social debate and why the issues matter”. In other words framing is a breakdown of what is at hand and why the issues really matter, and the purpose of framing is to simplify complex issues by sometimes placing more emphases on one particular issue than others. Framing establishes a common ground between scientist, the media, and the public. There were several examples in the film, “Climate of Doubt” of climate change framings such as Al Gore’s Pandora’s Box, and there are also several framings that exist in real life also mentioned in the film such as; Democrats and Environmentalists, and the Public health’s framing. Aside from the jargon that epidemiologists may bring to the table, the public health illustrates that changes in climate temperature can lead to very plausible environment catastrophes from earthquakes to tsunamis. There are very real threats that we have seen affect our society in recent years such as the Tsunami in Japan and even here in America, summer droughts in California. By presenting these current events, and very real issues to the viewer, one is able to relate to the contemporary climate change issue. If the film went about it through a different approach by using statistical figures or hard scientific facts, it would fail in framing the argument of "why does this matter to me?" The idea of natural disasters plays to our emotions and makes it that much more believable that climate change is very
