Critique of The Day After Tomorrow
The movie, The Day After Tomorrow, addresses the issue of global warming. The movie?s portrayal of the events caused by global warming was extreme and not very believable. Some of the information is backed up by science but most is completely off the wall and nonrealistic.
The movie cited the cause of the global climate change to be the rise in temperature due to greenhouse gasses. The warmer temperatures caused the polar ice caps to melt, and the increased amount of freshwater in the ocean disrupted the North Atlantic Current. The North Atlantic Current is what is responsible for the warm temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere. With the current disrupted the Northern Hemisphere went into an ice age. In real life, the polar ice caps are melting, but at a rate not even close to that of the one represented in the movie. Even if the ice was melting at a quicker rate, the chance that it would throw off the North Atlantic Current is slim to none. Also, there is no way that the ice would melt so quickly that a change that drastic would be made.
Another major issue I had with the movie was its temperature inconsistencies. In the movie, scientists warned people about going outside. They say that if one was to go outside that they would freeze to death. The movie also showed a wooly mammoth which froze to death immediately at the time of the first ice age. These examples were placed in the movie to highlight the ext...
... what happened in the novel. Also, the results of the rise in heat and global warming were accurate, including rising sea levels and a permanently warmer climate. In the novel, it is said that the rising sea levels and temperatures forced any survivors to move up into the slightly cooler mountainous areas, such as the Appalachians. There was also the accurate scientific fact, found on page 89, that a virus is more effective if it kills less quickly, due to having more time to replicate. It is because of these accurate facts that the author's science fiction writing was believable.
Even though Gore in the film says about the global warning that “this is really not a political issue, so much as a moral issue,” I believe that it is as much a political issue as it is a moral issue. The truth about the global warming is inconvenient to many economically developed countries.
Book Critique of The Longest Day Cornelius Ryan, born in Dublin, Ireland in 1920, worked as a reporter covering the battles in Europe from 1941-1945 and then the final months of the Pacific Campaign. His articles were printed in both Reuters and the London Daily Telegraph. His first book was The Longest Day, published in 1959, selling over 4 million copies in 27 different editions. In 1962, a director named Darryl Zannuck made the book into a movie. Ryan's next book was The Last Battle, published in 1966.
In its place we are entering a period of consequences." According to the facts that were mentioned by Al Gore in the film, I believe we are already living in the period of consequences. He said “carbon dioxide have never gone above 300 PPM,” but according to NOAA most recent global monthly mean of CO2 in September 2015 was 397.08 PPM. Due to such climate change, most recently the world has experienced most severe natural disasters, even in places where normally such disasters are not expected and abnormal. Also, in the last quarter century 30 new diseases were emerged even deadly like Ebola. “We don 't have that luxury anymore. We didn 't ask for it, but here it is” (Al Gore). We don’t neither do animals. A scientific study shows that polar bears are drowning in the Arctic Ocean and that has never happened before. Due to swimming long distances, up to 60 miles, and without finding the ice that they depend on for resting, they
In the movie “Ice and sand” it talks about the polar ice caps. These ice caps are located at the north and south poles of the Earth, and take up a large potion of the earth’s water. Ice caps fluctuate from year to year, growing and shrinking with weather changes. Greenhouse gasses are causing these ice caps to melt more and more every year though. If the ice caps were to melt completely, it would raise our ocean level ten to twenty stories about what it is now. This would send places like Nova Scotia, Vancouver, and New York completely under water. Scientists are not really quit sure what will happen with green house gases, whether they will cause a flood from melting the ice caps, or whether it will send us into another ice age. If it were to send us into another ice age, only people in very southern countries would be likely to survive due to the extremely cold whether.
Global warming is a scientific, political, and controversial topic. Some believe it is catastrophic, a slow moving killer hiding in the shadows. Others do not even think twice about it as they race by in a Hummer. Global warming is the gradual increase of temperature throughout different climates. It is caused by the greenhouse gas effect in which greenhouse gases, like methane and carbon dioxide, reflect sunlight back and forth. This reflected ultraviolet light bounces between the earth and the ozone layer and becomes trapped, resulting in a gradual rise of temperature. Over time, the slow rise of temperature causes new climates throughout the globe. The article “What Megablazes Tell Us About the Fiery Future of Climate Change” by Tim Dickinson
The “Go Green” lifestyle trend has emerged as a new way for humans to prevent a possible catastrophic environmental event that, some if not all, people believe will occur because of Global Warming. The people that have chosen to change their habits of recycling garbage, buying fuel efficient cars instead of 70's style gas guzzlers or live in a Eco-friendly house have spent some of their time researching what lies ahead for the human race if Global warming is not addressed. The scientific community has predicted many different environmental impact scenarios based on Global Warming, such as runaway heat waves and coastal flooding, but the one scenario that is most likely to come to pass for our planet is a new ice age. The addition of fresh water to the Atlantic Ocean caused by melting ice caps will change the current dynamics that are responsible for northern latitudes moderate climate and the added solar energy absorption in the atmosphere by greenhouse gasses will create convection currents and cool the Earth’s climate, pushing it into the next ice age.
In “The Day After Tomorrow” a climatologist’s warning of the possibility of massive cataclysmic climate changes caused by global warming go unheeded. His predictions of the consequences of such actions just so happen to occur sooner than anyone had ever expected. This movie served as the ultimate example what could happen if as a world community we do not clean up our acts. Continued consumption of nonrenewable resources, increased carbon dioxide emissions and further depletion of the Ozone layer could though most likely not on the scale illustrated occur in one form or another. The moral of this film is summed up by Dennis Quaid’s character in the last scene when he mutters his last few lines stating that hopefully humani...
The whole documentary tackled consequences which also have consequences. This in turn somehow forms a chain reaction of consequences which are also interrelated. As a result of these, climate change is considered as an accelerant to instability and a catalyst for conflict.
For years to come there will always be a speculation on whether the climate change has really taken place or not. Many believe that large companies launched this topic in order to benefit from it in profit, as there are also those who are convinced that this are consequences that have emerged from human mistakes in understanding the environment. As humans are struggling to trust one another whether it is just a big conspiracy or not or environment changing itself, we are slowly starting to feel the effects of climate change. Because of the gasses (CO2) that are in the air, atmosphere is getting warmer, thereby triggering the Greenhouse effect. Almost 70% of emitted gasses in air are CO2, which leads us to believe that this is the main cause of Global Warming. Since it is billions and billions of metric tons per year that are being released in air, many scientists conclude that temperature will most likely be more higher in twenty years from now, than it was in near past.
Currently, scientists believe that once an ice age has been triggered, oceanic circulation currents can change and the mixing of the oceans cools the southern hemisphere. As glaciers begin to accumulate in the northern hemisphere, solar heat is reflected off the snow which leads to further cooling.
The Analysis of "The Day after Tomorrow" ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ starring Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal was released. the long awaited big money blockbuster from the world renowned director, Roland Emmerich, a.k.a. Emmerich’s previous accomplishments include. the hugely popular hits Independence Day and Godzilla. Although immensely successful.
The Great Global Warming Swindle has been the most widely watched documentary critical of the scientific consensus that climate change is due to anthropogenic activities. Aired in 2007 in the United Kingdom, the documentary claimed to debunk the “myth” of manmade global climate change, exposing it as a vast conspiracy designed to gain funding for research and push an environmental agenda that is especially harmful to the developing world. Directed by British producer Martin Durkin, the documentary includes discussion with a number of scientists who are skeptical of anthropogenic global warming and claim that there viewpoints are being deliberately censored in favor of the politically correct consensus.
Background and Audience Relevance: There are always conversations about our planet. We see our earths glaciers melting, weather temperature rising, and pollution affecting our resources. But for some reasons we tend to look away. We should be more aware of this potential event and I’m here to inform everyone about what actually is global warming and the effects of it.
Global warming is one of the biggest threats to human kind. It is caused by the raising of earths temperature in the lower atmosphere. Since the industrial revolution the temperature has gone up by 1 degree Fahrenheit of what it has averaged to be for centuries. Doesn't sound like much and your right, but for every degree it goes up already 500 feet of snow won't fall. As in our earth is heating.
