According to the Canada’s Action on Climate Change, Climate change is a long-term shift in weather conditions identified by changes in temperature, precipitation, winds, and other indicators. Climate change can involve both changes in average conditions and changes in variability, including, for example, extreme events. Climate change is one of the biggest crisis in the earth. It will cause a huge damage to the eco-system and human. We are the victims of the climate change. However, we are the one who cause the climate change.

Normally, the solar radiation will pass through the atmosphere. Some of the solar radiation will absorb by the earth surface and the rest will reflect by the atmosphere. However, the greenhouse gas in the atmosphere will trap some solar radiation. As a result, the average temperature in the earth surface will be increase. He talks about how sea levels will rise and will be covering land in places like such as Florida and New York in his article called “Rising Sea Levels Threaten U.S. Cities”. The sea levels rising will cause some people to lose their living area. According to the passage, if we do nothing to stop climate change, over 26 million Americans ' homes might be inundated, and more than 1,500 U.S. cities and municipalities could find the areas where half of the residents live, also inundated. Moreover, the rate of increasing the sea levels is faster than ever. The passage mentions that the sea levels, rise in these 50 years is faster than the past 1,500 years. Moreover, there are more consequences caused by the climate change. According to Climate Central in Princeton, N.J., the sea levels increase might create some new wetland around the Mississippi River and there will be more flooding. Because of these consequences of climate change, the author suggests the US government to take action in reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Earth’s average temperature has increased about 0.8 degrees Celsius since 1880 and another degree could cause even more problems than there already are. Climate change is an important issue to be aware of because it is real and it affects you and the things around you each and every day. Every day animals lose habitats and die because climate change caused there home to burn, or their food sources started to deplete, etc. Along with these, more and more CO2 is being released into the air due to wildfires burning which is causing the atmosphere to heat even more. With the temperature increasing the oceans will become warmer and evaporation and rainfall patterns will change which will affect humans and animals, because we all work together in a system. There are many consequences of climate change like human health issues, and more animals becoming endangered, but the most important consequence is the rising amounts of wildfires.

Earth’s atmosphere consists of four layers; troposphere which is closest to earth, stratosphere, mesosphere, and thermosphere. Hardy says, “During the past 100 years we humans, as a result of burning coal, oil, and gas and clearing forests, have greatly changed the chemical composition of the thin atmospheric layer.” There is more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere due to burning fossil fuels. The atmosphere is made up of many gases such as nitrogen, oxygen, and argon. It also consists of trace gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, chlorofluorocarbons and, ozone. The trace gases have the greatest effect on our climate (Hardy 5). Up to a certain level, these gases help to keep the planet warm by absorbing certain infrared wavelengths, so that there can be life on the planet. Thus, they trap heat in the troposphere and stop it from escaping to space (Hardy 7). Therefore, the greater amount of greenhouse gases, the more heat trapped in the atmosphere. Jeffrey Salmon is the executive director of the George C. Marshall Institute in Washington D. C. This is an organization that conducts scientific research on issues that affect public policy. Salmon disagrees that global warming poses a serious threat to human health or the environment (Salmon 23).
