SGT Susette Caban Let me start be defining the ARMY as a profession; therefore, I need to define profession. According to “Merriam-Webster Dictionary” it defines profession as; “a calling requiring specialized knowledge and often long and intensive academic preparation”. All Army jobs have a long-term career education and professional development courses to enhance Soldiers performance and knowledge. This combined with experience creates experts in their specialty or duty. With training and experience the Soldiers knowledge increases. With increased knowledge comes increase of responsibility. When we blend training with experience we develop professionals. We trust in the Army because the values that have been deposit in them throughout their training based on the Army culture and ethics. Without this trust in our values and ethics, the term profession could not apply to the Army, to include the inspirational factors that makes a Soldier do what a Soldier do. The Army has established leader development training into all the different branches of service. This development training provides Soldiers with the tools that they need to be an effective and a professional leader that accomplishes the missions and takes care of Soldiers. There is also a process of selection which is called promotion board, which consists of a panel of high rank leaders that looks into the potential leader and reviews their training, experience and knowledge to determine and select the best
