An Alka-Seltzer is made up of acetylsalicylic acid, sodium hydrogen carbonate, citric acid anhydrous, povidone, dimeticone, calcium silicate, docusate sodium, sodium benzoate. and other ingredients. Alka-Seltzer is a pain relieving tablet that is known to create fizzing and produce gas when dissolving in water. It creates a new chemical product(s), as sodium acetylsalicylate, sodium citrate and sodium hydrogen carbonate. This chemical product helps relieve headaches, flu symptoms, and muscular aches and pains. Before using Alka-Seltzer you must first dissolve it in water.
Dr.Franklin Miles started Miles Laboratories in 1884 in Ekhart. Indiana. Alka-Seltzer was introduced to the world in February 21, 1931 by Miles Laboratories. During a flu epidemic the president of Miles Laboratories back then saw that some people were staying healthy. He was told that they were evading the flu when they drank aspirin and baking soda on any sings of the flu. They started marketing their new product Alka-Seltzer by giving free samples to the people that became ill with the flu. A tablet dropped in water is to create drink, that in that date they found out it actually works. The drink helped ease digestion and everybody started using the great new product. Including the funny mascot brought for the

Alka-Seltzer product for marketing. The mascot’s name is Speedy to show how fast the product reacts. Water is used to dissolve a tablet of Alka-Seltzer.
When dropped in water it creates a ouseries of chemical reaction that form the compounds sodium citrate and sodium acetylsalicylate. Antacid and pain relievers that help get rid of illness symptoms, muscular aches, and help ease digestion. When the tablet dissolves the components of baking powder, which is an ingredient in an Alka-Seltzer tablet, react with each other to create carbon dioxide. The bicarbonate ions in the tablet react when they come in contact with the hydrogen in the water when dissolving. The speed of the reaction depends on the temperature. The higher the temperature the faster the molecules
move. The lower the temperature the slower the molecules move. The temperature your drinks defines the speed of the reaction time of the Alka-Seltzer. Would the reaction time of the Alka-Seltzer decrease we were to use another type of substance that is drinkable. Something that can be found anywhere such as a drink other than water. The reaction time depends on the temperature of the substance, would anything substance affect the reaction time drastically? It is not recommended to consume a tablet dissolved in another substance other than water. The effect might change and there could be side effects even though it is rare. There is no official response if there is a positive or negative response, or no change at all.
The purpose for this lab was to use aluminum from a soda can to form a chemical compound known as hydrated potassium aluminum sulfate. In the lab aluminum waste were dissolved in KOH or potassium sulfide to form a complex alum. The solution was then filtered through gravity filtration to remove any solid material. 25 mLs of sulfuric acid was then added while gently boiling the solution resulting in crystals forming after cooling in an ice bath. The product was then collected and filter through vacuum filtration. Lastly, crystals were collected and weighed on a scale.
Kool-aid was invented by a man named Edwin Perkins He was born in the state of Iowa but he eventually went to live in Nebraska. At about 1927 he invented Kool-aid He was inspired by the drink Fruit smack, but because he wanted to lower the cost of shipping he removed all fluids from the drink. This dry powder eventually became Kool-aid. However Kool-aid did not always go by the same name It was originally Kool-Ade but because Ade refers to juice he had to change it tho the name it has today. Eventually Kool-aid got their own mascot the cool-aid man (He often broke through walls), They also had a comic with 7 issues, along with the Atari 2600 came the “Adventures of Kool-aid Man”. Kool-aid can still be bought today and has manny flavors
Alka-Seltzer is made up of baking soda, aspirin, and citric acid which gives the tablet the fizz when dropped in any temperature water. “Alka-Seltzer is a medication that works as a pain reliever and an antacid. (Antacids help neutralize stomach acidity, which can cause heartburn.)” (Science Buddies, Carbonation Countdown: The Effect of Temperature on Reaction Time). To take the Alka-Seltzer tablet you have to dissolve it in water causing a chemical reaction to form and the whole solution begins to fizz. The fizz occurs since when you drop the tablet in the water the baking soda and the citric acid react causing the water to fizz also “sodium bicarbonate splits apart to form sodium and bicarbonate ions” (Science Buddies, Carbonation Countdown: The Effect of Temperature on Reaction Time). When the Alka-Seltzer is dropped in the water then a chemical reaction forms allowing the Alka-Seltzer to dissolve. Temperature is related to this experiment because the temperature affects how fast the hydrogen ions react with the bicarbonate ions and as the temperature increases the movement of the molecules increases in speed and vice versa (Science Buddies, Carbonation Countdown: The Effect of Temperature on Reaction Time).
Hypothesis: The Alka Seltzer will dissolve fastest in hot water and slowest in cold water.
...ost likely to be battery acid. If it is water, it has a Ph level of around 7. For vinegar, the Ph level is approximately 2.4 - 3.4. Thus, once testing the liquid compare it with the Ph levels above to discover the mystery solution.
* It was almost impossible to tell when the Alka-Seltzer tablet had dissolved, each time the experiment was done. This was a huge problem for the experiment as this could have totally caused problems to the experiment. A special type of detector apparatus, which bleeped when the correct amount of Alka-Seltzer tablet dissolved, could improve this, each time the experiment was done.
tablet to completely dissolve in water at different temperatures. Input variables -. Varying surface area of Alka-Seltzer tablet, i.e. if cut into smaller pieces or crushed it will increase the surface area. ( If the surface area is increased (more powdered) the rate of reaction. also increases in the number of people.
Based on our observations during the separation techniques and some speculation, we were able to identify eight components of our mixture: graphite from the filtration residue, Epsom salt from crystallization, water and acetic acid through distillation, red and orange dye, iron metal, marble chips, and sand.
My Science fair topic is on Alka-Seltzer Tablets and its reaction time based on its particle sizes.
Olga Bautista is a mother of two, she’s a Chicago resident and another problem has just been added to her list, one she can’t do anything about by herself. Her daughter attends elementary school along with nine-hundred other children and the school is being polluted by a dust that is full of heavy metals, petcoke. This dust is being stored only half a mile from the school and Bautista’s home. She along with Suzanna Gomez and many other South Chicago residents fear for their health and their families’ health “she worries about one of her sons, who’s asthmatic, but doesn’t have the money to move” (Webber, 1)
It is made mostly of copper carbonate. It can be crushed into a green powder. If this powder is heated it changes colour. A new substance has been made. The new substance is a black powder.
Building Hope Standing Strong. Alex’s Lemonade Stand foundation is built around one person. This foundation was built by Alexandra Scott. When she was four years old, she had her first childhood cancer fundraiser in her front yard. She had a lemonade stand to fundraise for cancer.
Coase study #2 Beer: The vice president of marketing for a major brewing company is aware that college students account for a large proportion of beer sales and that people in this age group form lifelong loyalties to brands of beer. The executive is personally uncomfortable with the tasteless gimmicks used by her competitors in the industry to encourage drinking on campuses, including beach parties and beer-drinking contests. She worries about the company’s contribution to underage drinking and alcohol abuse among college students. Should she go along with the competition? State your case/opinion, etc.
For example, a study from the Voice Institute of New York found that drinking alkaline water with a pH of 8.8 can help deactivate pepsin. Pepsin is the main enzyme that causes acid reflux. Another study published in the Shanghai Journal of Preventive Medicine suggests that drinking alkaline water may be beneficial for people who suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol. Meanwhile, the study from the University of Alberta concludes, “it would be prudent to consider an alkaline diet to reduce morbidity and mortality of chronic disease that are plaguing our aging
