The rate at which Alka-Seltzer tablets reacts with water Statement of problem The aim of the experiment is to find out the rate at which Alka-Seltzer tablets react with water. The input variable that I will change is temperature. The output variable will be measured by the time it takes for the Alka-Seltzer tablets to dissolve. Input variables In this experiment there are two main factors that can affect the rate of the reaction. These key factors can change the rate of the reaction by either increasing it or decreasing it. These were considered and controlled so that they did not disrupt the success of the experiment. Temperature- As the temperature increases, the movements of molecules also increase. This is the kinetic theory. When the temperature is increased the particles gain more energy and therefore move around faster. This gives the particles more of a chance with other particles and with more force. The increase in temperature will therefore increase the rate of reaction. As this is the variable I am measuring I will not keep the temperature constant and therefore I will be varying it. Volume of water- if the volume of the water is increased there is more likelihood that there will be more collisions. This is because there are more water molecules in a given volume to react with the Alka-Seltzer tablets. However if there are sufficient water molecules to occupy the Alka-Seltzer tablets an increase in the water molecules will not alter the rate of the reaction. This is because the Alka-Seltzer tablets are already working as fast as they can to react with the water. The concentration can be increased by increasing the volume of the water used in the reaction to dissolve the Alka-Seltzer tablets in. To control the... ... middle of paper ... ... different from what it should be. To solve this problem a thermostatic water bath could be used as stated above. * If the stop watch was stopped to early or late, again the overall reading would not be as accurate as it could have been. * It was almost impossible to tell when the Alka-Seltzer tablet had dissolved, each time the experiment was done. This was a huge problem for the experiment as this could have totally caused problems to the experiment. A special type of detector apparatus, which bleeped when the correct amount of Alka-Seltzer tablet dissolved, could improve this, each time the experiment was done. This would give us an extra measure of accuracy each time. Another way to improve the experiment and to produce consistent readings was to used distilled water. This is because the distilled water contains no impurities and therefore no hardness in water.
First, 100 mL of regular deionized water was measured using a 100 mL graduated cylinder. This water was then poured into the styrofoam cup that will be used to gather the hot water later. The water level was then marked using a pen on the inside of the cup. The water was then dumped out, and the cup was dried. Next, 100 mL of regular deionized water was measured using a 100 mL graduated cylinder, and the fish tank thermometer was placed in the water. Once the temperature was stabilizing in the graduated cylinder, the marked styrofoam cup was filled to the mark with hot water. Quickly, the temperature of the regular water was recorded immediately before it was poured into the styrofoam cup. The regular/hot water was mixed for a couple seconds, and the fish tank thermometer was then submerged into the water. After approximately 30 seconds, the temperature of the mixture leveled out, and was recorded. This was repeated three

Moisture is heavy, and thus it can change the results of the experiment, as we only want the weight of magnesium and the magnesium oxide.

If the pot is close to the heat source, more heat is directed to the water so it will be heated faster. Alcohols: Different alcohols have different bond structures, some bonds need more energy to break them than others, and some release more energy when they are broken. Temperature increase: I could change the amount the temperature has to rise before I record my results. This will only affect the amount of fuel used, so hasn’t got much relevance to the experiment. If I did a calculation from the results I have for the temperature rising to 10 c then I would be able to work out how much fuel would be used, if I heated the water to 50 c. X 10 x 50" By dividing the amount of fuel used by the temperature raised you will be given the amount of fuel used per c. If you multiply the amount of fuel used per c, by the amount you want to find results for, you will be given an exact amount for how much fuel would be used if you heated the water to that specific temperature.

Queen Elizabeth’s mother, Anne Boleyn, had a pretty rough time. After “marrying” Queen Elizabeth’s father, Henry VII, she became the queen. Soon after she became pregnant, everyone was preparing for the little prince, Prince Edward, but whenever Anne Boleyn’s due date came she had a little girl, Princess Elizabeth. After many failed attempts at conceiving, the king became angry and started to think of a way to end their marriage. With the help of a few of Anne’s enemies at court, King Henry started an investigation. Anne was eventually arrested on the charges of adultery, incest, and plotting to murder the king. With limited evidence, she was found guilty and sentenced to death by beheading. On May 19th, Anne was privately executed.
The riots at the Stonewall Inn catalyzed the gay rights movement by taking the fight into the streets of Greenwich Village. Members of the gay community today have liberties that they might not have had otherwise. Although these rights and freedoms continue to be challenged by many, the Stonewall Riots were a landmark battle in the war for equal rights that is still being fought to this day.
This source was written by Ruth Lo, who is affiliated with the School of Nursing and Health Care Practices, Southern Cross University. This study examined the stress levels among college nursing students. The study revealed the high level of stress the students felt they had. It explained different ways, both beneficial and detrimental, the participants chose to deal with their stress. Different sources of stress were mentioned. Another major topic was how the participants successfully decreased their perceived stress levels. This was discussed in various categories such as: studies, family, and personal. The author compared the results received over several years of testing and explained the differences between the years. They then drew conclusions from their study about the true impact of stress on the college students. This study will be used to provide
With the large and growing population, food sources are increasingly more important. In order to increase the crop yield, fertilizers are used. These fertilizers can come in two forms, inorganic and organic. Also, though these fertilizers may help the human race increase food supply, fertilizer, in excess, can damage the natural environment, killing other organisms. Fertilizer is comprised of three major macronutrients and whether it is organic or inorganic, it can have negative effects on the environment.
In the past few decades school has shifted its focus from education to fashion. Students are judged upon their shoes or jeans rather than their knowledge. Uniforms in the public education system is a great idea, not only is it cost effective, but also it gives the students a chance to concentrate on their studies and not have to worry about what to wear tomorrow. Plus the crime or violence rate drops in schools that have a uniform policy, and those that do not belong on campus are spotted quicker and easier. Private schools have already adopted this idea as well as some schools in England and Australia. Early morning or late evening fights over what is allowed to be worn to school could come to an end if uniforms are issued in the public school system.
To start off, Audrey Hepburn was born on May 4, 1929, to an english father and a dutch mother in Ixelles, Belgium. At birth, she was given the name Audrey Kathleen Ruston, but took up the name Audrey Hepburn for the big screen because of her father’s surname. Growing up, Audrey lived her early life under the Nazi occupation. Although it was unknown at the time, Audrey’s father was a true Nazi sympathiser. When her mother found out his secret allegiance to Hitler, as well as another secret that Hepburn’s father was sleeping with their nanny, they divorced and he immediately left the family. (biographyonline.net) Because of that, and her being under Nazi occupation, Audrey suffered from depression and malnutrition. It was also relayed that Audrey Hepburn used to act as a courier during the war and carry messages to others in her ballet shoes behind the backs of the Nazi's supervision. (audrey1.org)
“We cannot forget that reinforcing economic differences drives students further apart when schools should be drawing them closer together.” There are many problems in public schools with no uniforms. The use of school uniforms could eliminate some of these problems. Although school uniforms may take away a child’s individuality, there are more benefits than disadvantages to having school uniforms in public schools because school uniforms lessen the money spent on the latest fashion trends and school uniforms provide a positive school climate.
There is also the potential of human error within this experiment for example finding the meniscus is important to get an accurate amount using the graduated pipettes and burettes. There is a possibility that at one point in the experiment a chemical was measured inaccurately affecting the results. To resolve this, the experiment should have been repeated three times.
