How can procrastination lead to students getting bad grades? Procrastination can lead to getting bad grades in any of one’s classes. Procrastination is not only a problem, but a problem that needs to be resolved. One used to procrastinate so much to where one’s grades would began to fall. The more one kept procrastinating, the more one’s grades would continue to fall. Procrastination is not a good thing to play with. There are solutions that can help prevent students from procrastinating. One used to stay up late some nights knowing that one needed to be asleep. However, one did not go to sleep, one stayed up all night. Knowing that one had to finish a paper that was due the next day. The next day one would be so sleepy after school, and the …show more content…
One had to train one’s body to go to bed at a certain time. One had to go ahead and get all homework, chores, etc. done so one could go to sleep early and have enough energy for the next day. By doing this, one's grades have improved. Since one has started doing this, one does it on a regular basis; it is a lifestyle. If one can not get all of one’s chores or homework done, at least attempt too. One used to have trouble with time management. One used to go to brother’s football game or practice, mom’s choir practice, extracurricular activities, etc. instead of staying home and studying. One did not make better choices. As a result of one having poor time management, one’s grades started to go down hill; all of one’s grades. Not just in World Literature, but all of one’s grades. Having great time management is a technique that one has to learn to use if one wants to be successful in life. One had to realize that it was time to stop playing and get serious about one's grades. One did not want to end up out of the program that one was in. alos one did not want to make bad impression on one’s self to colleges. Colleges look at one’s transcript from the time one gets in highschool til’ the time one graduates. One did not colleges to not accept one. One’s grades depend one’s future. That future can either be good or god. One needs to chose if one wants a wonderful future or a terrible
Procrastination has negative effects on our mental and physical health, which can lead to poor sleep. Hairston and colleagues believe that procrastination is associated with sleep troubles, an association mediated by ruminative cognitions (Hairston et al., 2016). Participants completed an online questionnaire regarding procrastination; sleep troubles, rumination, emotional state, and biological clock. The results showed that in evening types procrastination positively correlates with sleep trouble, negative affect, and rumination. However, for morning types there is no correlation between procrastination and sleep disturbances. Thus, the results from this study will have an impact on treatment and interventions of insomnia and procrastination
The author often procrastinate because she feels, that when an assignment is given she has so much time, that she can delay her work at a later time; and when she needs to start working, she has no more time since she is also busy with other responsibilities that is more important than the task that she suppose to do. Another reason, the author procrastinate is because she feels she is unable to understand what the assignment is trying to ask her, and she feels that if she delays on starting, she will eventually figure out what the assignment is about rather than asking friends or the person who assigned the task. The last reason is sometimes all her classes are assigning some things at the same time, which means all the deadlines are next to each other which causes her to not have enough time to do all the things she has to do.
The key to acquiring good time management skills is setting our priorities in order such as the importance of studying your first priority. An example of this skill is taking time out of our busy scheduled life as students to spend time on reviewing assignments, and thoroughly reading through and understanding the study material. It is imperative to structure your time efficiently in order to be a successful learner. The first method that can be used to find out how your using your time is drawing up a time management wheel, writing down how you use your time in a twenty four hour day, then drawing up another wheel of how you would like to use your time, compare the two and keep the time management wheel you want to follow in a ring binder, diary or folder. “Remember, a new habit takes twenty one days of repetitiion to form” (Lengefeld, 2009.pp 21), so follow the wheel chart and see if it works. The second Method is writing down assignment due dates on a calendar, dairy or cell phone wherever it stays as constant reminders for important deadlines, this is an effective way to keep on top of assignments so that you can learn to prioritize your tasks within your day effectively.
The effects of sleep deprivation at the physical and mental level are not the only issue; students are having
In the first draft of this essay, I had a basic outline of my topic. The essay served as more of a “how-to” than a creative non-fiction piece. I was simply giving people tips on how to avoid procrastination. For my second draft of this essay, I tried to create more of a creative non-fiction piece. Therefore, I wrote two other pieces of writing that described my experiences with procrastination. One piece, was about how I gave into procrastination. The other piece was about how I avoided it and was proud of what I accomplished. However, I didn’t feel that the three separate pieces of writing fit into one essay. I was switching between first and second person, the times of the scenes were different, and the pieces of writing did not fit together to create a cohesive story. For my third draft of the essay, I decided integrate elements of my three pieces of writing into the story about how I avoided procrastination. I did so by describing scenes where I was about to procrastinate, but overcame the temptation. By consolidating my pieces of writing into one story, the essay was cohesive. Also, the essay was more of a creative non-fiction piece. For my fourth and final draft, I added more imagery, metaphors, and dialogue to make the story more interesting and realistic.
There are many aspects within my personal character in which have changed since entering grade nine. One of these aspects is my time management skills. When I first started out in grade nine, I used to rush home and rush through all my homework. Although this would seem like a good habit, the “rushing through my work” part was not working. The homework would be done but sloppy and just finished to say it was done so I could go out. After four years though, I have learned my lesson and do my homework efficiently. It is important to read over your notes and study hard in order to get good grades. As well, I needed to learn which assignments where most demanding and important that night. In grade nine, I used to leave the hard stuff for last and crash half way through. Now I know that I have to write my essays first instead of finishing the religion collage. After four years, I have finally figured out how to balance school, work, friends and family, which is one of the most important things to learn.
...port for a good night’s sleep). And as the school year progresses the student may be doing this study routine, of staying up late to get work done, every week. Over time this will become a life-style and the student will suffer health consequences for their lack of sleep (Brain Basics: Understanding Sleep).
The definition of procrastination is: the action of delaying or postponing something. Tim Urban, who conducts a speech called Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator for TED in 2016, explains that every human is a procrastinator- some more than others. I agree with everything he says in his speech because I can connect with every piece of evidence he claims, mostly including that there is a “Panic Monster” that pops up in your brain when you are close to a deadline and haven’t gotten anything done, especially when it comes from why I’m always so stressed out about school. There are two different kinds of procrastination: deadline and non-deadline. (Urban, 2016) Everyone that I have ever met is a procrastinator
Procrastination is a problem with many people especially in the academic and working worlds. Procrastination is when a person puts off work, many different things can cause a person to do this. I am one of the people that procrastinates and end up having trouble getting work done resulting in getting behind in school and other activities, I have more stress than what is healthy and it has caused health problems; it makes me unable to accomplish things in my life. The causes of procrastination for me are obvious and I can fix these problems. Procrastination is a problem in my life because of an absence of motivation to complete tasks and lack of focus on the tasks at hand.
There were 40 participants involved in this survey. The first question of the survey is “Do you have a good sleeping habit or bad sleeping habit?” 29 out of 40 students said that they have a bad sleeping habit. There is a student who said that “I considered my sleeping habit to be bad because I often stay up late at night.” Just like other college communities, Ball State students also suffers from bad sleeping habits which cause sleep deprivation. There are many students that sleep for less than 6 hours. According to the survey, there are 7 students that chose more than 8 hours, 13 students chose 6-8 hours, 18 students chose 4-6 hours and 2 students chose less than 4 hours. The most common reason for going to bed late is because of doing school work. However, college students need to sleep for 8.5 to 9.5 hours per night in order to perform efficiently in class. Most of the students find it difficult to go to sleep because they feel more alert and awake at night, which causes sleep
There must be a better way, perhaps, an easier way. Throughout the history, many great inventions are born from laziness with the desire of convenience. As such, the wheels are invented to eliminate the need to move objects from pulling or carrying. Laziness takes place in many parts of the human development. Lazy people are more creative and often come up with innovative ideas because they have more free time. Whether it is the way our body is structured or the inventions that we created, there is laziness that is involved in it. Laziness gives individuals the time to think of inventions which no one has thought about before. Although laziness is a bad habit, it is one of the key factors that helps society to efficiently progress.
As I reflect on the group presentation, all that comes to mind is the word procrastination. The preparation process was a little frustrating because not everyone in the group took the project as seriously as the rest of us. The deadline crept up on me kind of quickly because one minute we had a month to prepare and the next we only had two days. It started off as if we would have no problems getting this project finished with time to spare. We set dates to meet, assigned parts, and established deadlines for us to have certain things finished before each meeting.
Many people can struggle with managing their time. Choosing to go to a party on the night before your final exam can be an example of not setting priorities. Finding the time to do your task, whether it’s school related or not is important. If you don’t have a balance in your day to day life you can be faced with procrastination. For instance, being involved in too many after school activities can take a toll in academic success. You can find yourself fighting with time, trying to get those last hours back. The thought of getting an assignment done will be left the night before it’s due because you think it’ll get done. Then you’ll realize you needed more time for the assignment or you see that you have no time to finish it. Poor time management can lead to
Jessica started high school and never had a good schedule. She always waited until the very last minute to do homework. She would always go to sleep late and always wake up late for school and not catch the bus. After a while, she realized that she had to manage her time everyday for school. Jessica never had time for practicing her guitar and never got her required minutes every week for guitar, but since she started managing her time well, she started being more confident in school and she got good grades ever since she stopped procrastinating. Procrastination can affect people who have school because they won’t get work done, and they’ll wake up late for school, and their brains won’t function properly at school.
Laying around during my free time, instead of working on my homework, always sets me up for failure. I often find myself waiting until the last second to complete my assignments, sometimes however, I find myself not doing some assignments at all. This impacts my grades because they often drop until I finish my assignments. My grades dropping make me look bad to my parents and cause tremendous stress to myself. My lazy attitude towards homework causes me to wait until the last second to complete it. Having a short amount of time to complete my work causes me to rush and easily get frustrated. When I am frustrated, I cannot learn properly, and being unable to learn the information on my homework can cause bad scores on my test which effect my grades even more. If I had just worked on my assignments before they were due then I could avoid all the problems that my laziness caused. Every thing has a due date, and unlike Price Prospero, I know that you cannot avoid things that you do not like
