Intro Essay Many things are factors when it comes to making a good piece of writing, some of the things may seem easy, anyone can do them but other things are more complicated than you think. My style of writing is way different from the style of writing of my peers, some of us may be confident writers and others of us not as much. When it comes to being a student writer we should see progress in our writing as we move forward in this class. We should grow together but also as individual writers. What I consider to be a good piece of writing might not be the same as the person sitting next to me. This is all based on opinions and interests of the person reading what is being written. One big thing for me is, interest, does the writing catch my attention as a reader, no matter the length does it keep me interested throughout the whole story. But also how the piece of writing does this, it could be a horrible topic, something not many people are interested in but with the right word choice and flow of the writing it could be very interesting and fun to read. Flow in a piece of writing, …show more content…
I wish I had a more specific way of doing it but at this point in time I don’t. Some of my strengths as a writer I think are, narrowing the piece to a specific topic, punctuating in the right places, spelling, and also making the piece easy to read and to follow along. I think I have a lot of weaknesses as a writer but I want to work on them in this class and learn to make them strengths not weaknesses. One thing that I want to work on is using better word choice to help make my pieces of writing more interesting. A major weakness I have as a writer is creating flow in my writing, I can write things to make sense but I want to learn how to connect topics and help my sentences and paragraphs flow
In our modern society, we have forgotten the art of writing. When we write, we think to ourselves, the longer the sentence, the more intelligent I will sound. Many may say it is by writing long sentences. But is it all that true? In this piece of writing I would like to focus on an essay written by Verlyn Klinkenborg, Several Short Sentences About Writing. In this essay he explains how and why when we write, we should keep our sentences short. he also explains why students should be assigned essays that are not determinate on other sources as evidence. I will also be comparing this to a piece written by Sarah Manguso, Ongoingness. I will be comparing these two pieces on their writing style, and their essayistic ideas. My belief is that we need
I found that learning by example helped my writing greatly. One of the books we read, “The Sixth Extinction” by Elizabeth Kolbert, influenced my writing. The book is well written in an academic style that engages the reader. Her writing also flows nicely throughout every passage. I tried to
The Blake and Mouton Leadership grid studies how leaders help an organization through concern for production and/or concern for people and is based on a nine point scale
When it came to the process of writing my first, second, and third essay’s, there was clear visual improvement that I have become a better writer in certain aspects. As for essay one, I tended to rely on my writing skills as a high school student rather than use the components of a successful college student essay. This was definite once I received the feedback given by ...

Over the years of my schooling, I have gradually developed my writing preparation to help me become a better writer. I continue to find ways to improve my writing abilities by working on my weaknesses and by incorporating the feedback I receive from my peers and my instructors into my essays. At times, I still struggle when preparing to start my essay, but with precise and organized planning and obtaining the help of others, I am certain that I will become more proficient in my writing
The first essay written in the class was based on the premise of an instance where we fell in love with reading or writing. This essay involved learning and using knowledge of writing process, rhetorical, genre, and overall subject matter. This use of writing process knowledge was prevalent in this
I have learned a lot about myself in the last twelve weeks. I discovered so much about my writing. I learned who I really am once I came out from behind the "Official Style" that I've clung to since junior high. I have to tell you, it was very difficult for me to let go. I felt lost and uncertain. But in the process I found myself, my style, and my voice. I learned to let myself come through in my writing. I have to admit, writing became a lot more fun and interesting.
What is writing style? I started out thinking that writing style is a personal thing and that all writers have their own style. But, this way of thinking is really just a simple way to answer the question. After more careful thought, I realized that style is actually quite the opposite of personal and original. Style is a form of standardization. As writers, we all follow certain rules and guidelines to make our point. Style is these rules and guidelines.
Many people fail to realize that English writing is a very vital skill that everyone should learn. I always thought that there was not much when it came to writing essays. Usually I am given a topic, I write five paragraphs and then I am done, However, I was wrong. There is more to writing then just writing multiple paragraphs on any given topic. There were many styles and types of essays that I have never done before or knew existed. I was intimidated at first, but my professor provided many activities in order for me to succeed in writing. Many of these activities were intended learn and master different skills so I could become a better writer.
There are endless types of writing styles that people use. They use the one that they believe expresses their thoughts most clearly. I’m not sure if my writing style is part of those that are often used and to be honest, I do not know what type of style I use when I write. I think that the hardest part about writing is just getting started. That is why when I have a writing assignments I always start by using an I-chart. The I-chart is kind of shaped like an I, I learned how to make one when I was in elementary and it always has been useful for when I need to write. The I-chart consists of the top being the Intro, the middle having on the left three main topics and on the right there are examples for the main topics, and the bottom of the
Many different styles of writing exist in the world. Because there are many different writers who write many different ways, and no specific "correct" style of writing, various people find themselves writing in a variety of ways. people write quickly, and others do not write as fast. Some people write en masse and others work one paragraph at a time. Personally, my writing style could best be compared to a wrecking ball. The two may seem immensely different, but – surprisingly – the two share many similarities and, after considering my past writing experiences and encounters, I find that no other image provides as appropriate a comparison to my writing as that of an old-fashioned, demolition wrecking ball.
During my semester in English 101 I have learned many things such as how to be literate, how to analyze and synthesize materials as well as how to acknowledge my strengths and weaknesses while writing. Since I’ve became aware of what I need to focus more on while writing and reading I feel like it has made me more sufficient in my assignments. Some strengths I can identify in my own writing is that I am good at making sure that I give the reader a handful of visual aid while reading. I make sure to give them the most descriptive setting while still not giving the story away. I also believe that I do a good job at lead up to the actual buildup of the story. What lead to developing these two strengths is the time that
I am not, by any means, a Shakespeare, Stephen King, or John Grisham. It would take enormous amounts of time, practice, and effort to be considered a long shot at a Pulitzer Prize. Yet, I intend to progress my writing by setting more achievable goals, building on new ideas, and developing new skills. Also, I will use the advice of instructors and peers, and draw from previous writing experiences to mold this and future writing experiences.
I don’t consider myself a very good writer. I write when I am made to or when I have something that I need to say that I can’t just tell someone. I keep a diary. Usually my diary is just a record of what I have done that day. It’s not so much about my feelings. I don’t really like talking about my feelings, usually because most of the time I am confused about what exactly I am feeling. I tend to keep the feelings that I do have to myself, to protect myself from getting hurt.
