Reflective Introduction
During my semester in English 101 I have learned many things such as how to be literate, how to analyze and synthesize materials as well as how to acknowledge my strengths and weaknesses while writing. Since I’ve became aware of what I need to focus more on while writing and reading I feel like it has made me more sufficient in my assignments. Some strengths I can identify in my own writing is that I am good at making sure that I give the reader a handful of visual aid while reading. I make sure to give them the most descriptive setting while still not giving the story away. I also believe that I do a good job at lead up to the actual buildup of the story. I would end the story abrupt or my conclusion overall would be weak and would lose the reader attention. A way I would set about to improve this in the future would be to take my time while typing and use the resources I have to help with my cohesiveness. I also would reread the paper from beginning to end to make sure that my conclusion and other areas of my paper are strong and efficient. I enjoyed the course but I did struggle with a few things, some of the major challenges I faced was time management. Throughout the semester I had trouble using my time in class wisely, I would find myself not paying attention or getting distracted easily. I also would put off things that could have been done in class and try to do them once I got to my room. That was a terrible idea because there are many distractions in my room and I would find myself not doing my absolute best while doing my best. There were times when I did use my time wisely but there were also times where I would still put things off to work on other
Over my career of schooling my writing has changed dramatically at times and very little at others. Through my years of schooling people have determined my main weaknesses and strengths that I should work on with my writing. My biggest weakness is writing introductions and conclusions they must be so complicated and require so much thought to be defined as good. I excel at writing body paragraphs and explaining all the facts that back up your main ideas though.
I have studied English since I was a grade seven, but the curriculum in my middle school and high school years, mainly focuses on reading and speaking components of language skills, with a little focus on writing. As a result, I never felt confident with any piece that I was asked to write. Writing has been a hurdle for me to succeed in college since most of the courses in college requires one or the other way writing skill. Consequently, I have decided to work on my writing skills, and have started working on it; even before, I started taking this English 101 class. I used to use a various educational material which I thought might help me to meet my writing goal. Some of the materials which I was using includes: TOEFL educational materials, You Tube resources, and various novels. All of these resources have helped me to polish my writing skills. Furthermore, after I started taking this class, I have learned to enjoy writing. I have made it a point to communicate my own thoughts and feelings as opposed to simply summarize the thoughts of famous writers and authors before me. This class builds up my confidence in my own writing and for that I am highly appreciative.
Writing has never been a strength I have possessed. English 102 has been difficult and challenging for me because I have had to move past the high school level of a basic book report or a five paragraph paper that has narrowed my ideas of writing for many years. Putting on paper what my thoughts are in a way that is logical and accurate for what the assignment is asking has been hard for me this semester. My ideas are now more involved because I have learned through English 102 how to develop my writing skills in different formats, for example, in an annotated bibliography and a research paper. Writing is something I always struggled with throughout my academic career. Whether it is for the English class or any other liberal arts class, I have a tendency to deviate from the main task of writing. How you write will determine how you will succeed in most classes at a higher-level educational institute. From what I have learned from taking a Writing 101 course at Pacific Lutheran University, writing styles in college drastically differ from how we tend to write in high school. Most of the writing done in high school consist of a 5-paragraph structure, starting with an introductory paragraph, followed by 3 supporting examples, and a simplistic conclusion restating the thesis. For college, however, this type of writing feels limiting. In fact, college goes beyond writing from a mere appalling 5 paragraphs and allows their students to explore their writing by adding their own voice and opinions.
Strengths and Weaknesses Throughout the Mid-SEE I have written reflections on my writing and participated in group activities. I have received comments from my peers and suggestions to help with revising my paper. With the help of my professor, Professor Church and my classmates, I was able to comprehend their suggestions to me to make my essay better and by revising my classmate’s essays, I was able to point out mistakes that I might have made in my essay, which made me go back to my essay and check and see if I had mistakes that just flew by my eyes. I have come to understand what my strengths and weaknesses are in my writings. What I tend to do wrong in my papers is trying to get the topic to stay on the topic throughout the paper.
As my English 101 class comes to an end, I have realized how much I have transformed as a writer. In this essay, I am going to explain what I realized my strengths and weaknesses are as a writer and how they have manifested themselves throughout the quarter. I was skeptical at first coming into this class knowing that English takes formidable work and dedication, but I am very proud of the progress I have made. We completed a great deal of work throughout the quarter; from grammar exercises, summary reviews, and two challenging essays. Throughout the quarter I found myself improving in each category. As a writer, my skills and confidence have developed into more clarity and thought, something I have always wanted to be, as a result of a well constructed class that led to a superb educational experience.
One skill that I wish I had time to improve on is citing sources in MLA style. Through the course, I refused to seek help from my professor until week seven, one thing I regret doing. that could have allayed the fear and doubt I had about this course. Any questions I had could be cleared up as the course progressed. My essays through the subsequent weeks have demonstrated my strength and weaknesses. I do not have many strengths when it comes writing, but still I consider my greatest strength in writing to be being able to clearly understand the prompt and answer it correctly, especially with the analysis essays. I think this is just because I spend most of the scarce time on hand just to think about the prompt, for example, when I was preparing for my rhetorical analysis essay on globalization I thoroughly read both article on globalization by both Kwame Anthony Appiah and franklin Foer .An obvious struggle I have as a writer is organization and transitions. I tend to jump from one topic to another and sometimes cover. I should have used more transitional words in between sentences and paragraphs to make my reader understand the logic of my paper. I have not had enough writing experience and the writing process is difficult for me. I do sometimes admit that it takes days to complete one assignment, but it will be worth it when I become a proficient

What set of qualities do they have that makes them such remarkable writers? And I wanted to evaluate those qualities that makes them so unique. In order for me to accomplish that, I need to take a class where student read and write extensively. A class that makes a student think outside the box. I find this quote to be fully true and I learned this important lesson about writing, reading, and literature when I was a freshman in high school, in one of the most feared classes there, Mr. Monsour 's biology class. Not many people enjoy reading and writing, especially as an assignment to be graded by the “destroyer of dreams and grades.” Being assigned some reading and writing assignment seems like it would not have a large impact on a student, but to me it caused a change in heart to reading and literature and helped me learn and relearn something about myself. A book titled, The Hot Zone was the book I choose to read for the assignment and it was a fantastic book that I have read twice now. After reading and doing the given assignment I learned that literature is an important part of society as information can be learned and collected, but also that literature can teach life lessons and lead to some discovery of self.
