Many people fail to realize that English writing is a very vital skill that everyone should learn. I always thought that there was not much when it came to writing essays. Usually I am given a topic, I write five paragraphs and then I am done, However, I was wrong. There is more to writing then just writing multiple paragraphs on any given topic. There were many styles and types of essays that I have never done before or knew existed. I was intimidated at first, but my professor provided many activities in order for me to succeed in writing. The purpose is reason why the writer is writing the essay. Is the writer writing to inform, entertain, or persuade. I can always tell the purpose by the words and phrases the writer uses. The audience is who the writer is writing to. The audience may be teachers, students, teens, adults, or the elderly. The tone is the attitude the writer has towards the subject and style is the way the writer writes for their audience. Strategy is the tools that the writer use to complete their work. When completing the research proposal I was able to use reading selections and reading block to complete this assignment. I remember one reading block titled “Why boys don’t play with dolls.” I took social issues from this reading selection and used them in my essay. I had to identify five social issues which was not a problem and create an essay on these issues. I also analyzed JFK speech and created an essay by taking social issues from that and referencing them into my essay and critically analyzing the rhetorical strategies
