English 111 is the first English course you will need to take if your program of study requires any English classes. To be able to take any other English courses you must have completed and passed English 111. If you have experience in or enjoy writing papers you will pass this course with no issues. To pass English 111 you will need to do three things keep up with your absences, write your essays to the best of your ability, turn them on the day they are due, and participate in peer reviews. The first step to success in English 111 is, keeping up with your absences. Some instructors will help you keep track and some will make you responsible with keeping up with your absences. This is important because you are only allowed six absences and once you go over you are dropped from the class. This will affect your grade, your GPA, and your graduation. So, the beach might sound like a better idea but what if you have to wait another semester to graduate just for one class, that does not sound quite as good. …show more content…
Procrastination plays a huge role in this step. Remember, every time you say yes to something you are saying no to something else. Make sure you set aside some time every day to work on some part of the paper, even if it is just rereading it outload to find small errors. Make sure it is your best work and submit it to a program such as, paper rater or Grammarly, these can be helpful for finding small errors you did not catch. Also, turn your papers in on time to confirm it was submitted. You can also be penalized for turning a paper in
English is vast you can create your own answers, which irritates my science and math like mind set, I want all the answers, I want a set way of doing stuff a step by step guide of getting to one correct answer. However, this course might be able to loosen my mind and notice that in English there can be more than one correct answer. I surely do believe that I can excel in Professor’s Grahams’ English 1101, but only if I work for it and earn an A. The class seems like a lot of work but because of the work load but the type of rigor it takes to complete the
English 1020 is the second English course I have taken in my second term at Wayne State University. According to English 1020 syllabus
English 101 is one of the most common college courses in the world. When I enrolled in the class, I was bothered that I would have spend forty hours in a freshman writing class; along with at least another forty hours throughout the semester writing for the class. What surprised me, was that when I began writing my essays I was not annoyed or bothered; I actually enjoyed the assignments. Most importantly, throughout the course of the semester, I have become a better writer and have ultimately met the course goals of English 101.
My biggest improvement in this English 111 class was my writing. Writing tasks that were assigned greatly strengthened my overall performance throughout the course, preparing me for the future classes. The environment made me feel at ease, helping me evolve as a student, and as a person. The environment made me feel at ease, preparing me for future classes. Another large achievement of mine that I displayed in the class, was my ability to talk comfortably with the other students. The variety of group activities we did allowed me to openly speak my opinion, leading to a better overall performance with my work and papers. The English 111 class enabled me to have better participation in and out of class and allowed
Before this quarter started I was fairly confident that I had what it took to ace English 101. After the first paper, I realized I was mistaken. Throughout this quarter I have had numerous problems with my writing that proved I needed to do a little more studying to help take my writing to the college level. Although I did not fail any of my papers, there was plenty of room for improvement. All the areas I needed to improve on are all areas that I think every English 101 student should know. I believe that every student at the college level should know how to cite sources correctly, know how to use good transitions, and know how to properly elaborate their examples.
East Boston is very different from the rest of Boston’s neighborhoods. It is geographically separated by the water and is accessible only via the Sumner tunnel, Callahan tunnel, or the Blue Line of the MBTA. It used to be accessed by a ferry service but the ferry was discontinued in the 1950s (Page 3 of the second book in the kit). It is an ethnic enclave with a large Hispanic and Latino population (page 4 of ACS in kit). This was easily visible when walking through East Boston. As cars were driving by with open windows, loud Spanish music emanated from the radios. An Eastern Bank on Meridian Street had advertisment signs in both English and Spanish to cater to the clientele of the neighborhood. Also, at La Sultana in Maverick Square, the employees spoke to each other (and to Spanish speaking customers) in Spanish only.
Throughout this semester we have had to write many types of essays. Although this is a college English class there is still room for improvement. I made much improvement during the semester of the class. I was able to identify my weaknesses. I learned how to make improvements to the areas I was having problems in. Although each essay we did was different I was able to begin with one essay and throughout the semester turn it into two other essays. I was able to change my style of writing to fit the type of audience I was working with. I will continue to work on my writing and keep improving it.
I am currently an English 160 student who is hoping to move on to the next course, which is English 161. I understand the requirements for English 161. It require students to explore a topic in some depth and conduct independent research related to that topic. Conducting research allows students to learn what it is like to participate in academic culture, posing questions about important issues and developing an argument in response to what others have said. It expected students to learn the most valuable skill in college, which is critical thinking. Students have to be able to read challenging readings. Although I still have problems with English, I think I’m qualified to move on.
The events of 900 AD mark a significant period in history that saw the rise and fall of empires, the emergence of new powers, and the shifting of geopolitical dynamics. This era was characterized by upheavals, political intrigues, military conflicts, and cultural exchanges that had lasting implications on the world. In this essay, we will delve into the historical context, key figures, and impact of the events of 900 AD, as well as examine influential individuals who have shaped our understanding of this period. The year 900 AD falls within the period known as the Early Middle Ages, a time marked by the dissolution of the Carolingian Empire, the fragmentation of political power in Europe, and the emergence of new kingdoms and empires.
Overall, I have learned so much in English 111 and I have really enjoyed being in your class. Everything I have learned will help stay with me in my continuing years of college. I hope I have proven to you that the things you taught actually did help, and I gained so much knowledge about myself as a writer and a communicator. Your lectures were very interesting and you made them pleasant to learn. Thank you for a great semester.
The ten weeks of English 101 classes have been rewarding for me, I am now better at communicating with my audiences in writing and using writings and readings to support my thoughts and ideas. Looking back at my two projects, I think I have done well in constructing my ideas and organizing the ideas into the essays. Areas I need to improve on are sentence structures and creative writing skills, which are things I definitely hope to be able to learn in ENGL 102.
One reason why I benefited from Dual Enrollment English 112 is because it is structured similar to a math class. You learn a concept in class and then you go practice that concept for homework. Math has always been my favorite subject and part of the reason for that was its structure. Application of information absorbed in class is hugely essential for knowledge to remain in one’s brain. For me, it is the best way to learn, and that is why I benefited so greatly from english class this year. All of my other english classes involved reading a book and
Taking a writing course is the fundamental structure to gain reading and writing techniques to become a successful learner in everyday life professionally and educationally. The skills that I will learn in this course will directly transfer to my other college courses. Taking English 1010 will help me think more critically and rhetorically. Writing is not only an important academic skill, but it’s also an important skill in any career field. Almost all jobs require you to have some form of writing on the job to be considered qualified. For example, nurses write medical reports on patients. Learning how to become a better reader and writer will help me become more successful in college.
To begin, I am so relieved to finish my first semester of college. When I first started off in English 100, I thought the English course will overall be boring and pointless because I didn’t believe I will learn anything. Throughout the weeks in English, I started to learn about the different structures in writing and begin to notice how my imagination is bursting to say things when I am writing. When I had the one-on-one meeting with Professor Tarkany, she told me college is an experience to learn about yourself and identify your struggles. So within the course, I was able to discover a bit more of myself. I learned that I need to make sure I am organized, to stay on track with things and make sure every assignment is done. I hope to learn
