An effective group leader/ Facilitator has lots of responsibility to consider before the group begins. Including training, clients evaluations/ goal plans, consents and let's not forget discussions and exercises to complete in a productive group. Reflecting Feelings (Cory, 2015 pg24) This all plays a part with active listening and empathy in the group. The counselor is listening to everyone feelings and provides positive feedback showing, they understand. Other participants in the groups may also provide feedback of how they can relate. The counselor and participants can provide motivational tips and resources that can support everyone in the group. The counselor can repeat what was said in the group showing they are listening and understand. Also, the counselor can prompt questions to receive additional information on that current subject. For example, if a client is usually participating and know silent something maybe wrong. Maybe while participants are speaking the tone of their voice, tears in their eyes and tension of their bodies can express the mood of how they are feeling. Depending on the impact of group counselors can speak to participants independently to see of the require additional support including an one-on-one session. The counselor can also speak to the participant about if the group was effective. Providing Pros and cons worksheets the participants can complete and provide after the group. The participants can provide tips on what they learned and how it can support them outside of groups.
