Don't Mess with Nature
Of all the things a student needs to make it through a typical day, probably the most important, yet least appreciated, is paper. Paper is used for academic, social, and personal purposes by nearly all students every day. The most obvious use is for the academic or classroom assignment, whether it comes in the form of a test, an essay, or a summary of plant life on Easter Island. The social uses of paper center around the "note," which any student can tell you is s important a part of a student’s social life as Friday night ball games or the Junior Prom. As for the personal applications, there is doodling for the nervous mind, and there is scrunching for the nervous hand.
The traditional paper airplanes and spit wads are still around, but they seem less popular than in days gone by-probably because it is easier for a student to move freely about the classroom today than it used to be. In any case, there can be no doubt that paper is just as important as ever to the student whose days would be a waste without it.
Not only students, but everyone needs paper. Just as students use the paper, so does everyone else. The social purpose surrounds the mail, which we receive everyday. For personal use, there’s the diary and the note pads to remind us the things we need to remember. There are many examples that I can give for instance, paper plates, paper bags, cardboard boxes, etc…
Anyhow, the point that I am deriving at is that paper and cardboard boxes are all made from trees. Millions of trees are being destroyed every year to produce paper. Not only for paper, but for housing projects as well. New programs are being set up to plant trees in replace of the destroyed ones. Little do people realize how much damage could be done when dealing with nature. These housing projects are built, where beautiful trees use to sit letting cool breeze pass through their leaves. Now, the Recycling foundation has set up a program for young kids to plant trees in their neighborhood to save "Mother Earth." These trees are being planted at almost every street corner. The kids don’t know what’s likely to happen. They think they are doing good for their community.
Now, trees as thick as fifteen baseballs put together, creep up underneath the sidewalk all over town.
Author, Joan Didion, in her essay, On Keeping a Notebook, expands the importance of keeping a notebook. Didion’s purpose is to elucidate why having and using a notebook is essential and give examples of how to keep one. She adopts a forthright and didactic tone in order to emphasize notebook keeping with her audience. Didion provides rhetorical question, flashbacks, and the use of pathos to support the purpose of writing her essay.
...ting embryos specifically for stem cell research should not be allowed. Continued stem cell research will benefit all of mankind with its promise of medical advances. Opponents’ concerns about destroying human life will be quelled because stem cells will be taken from already doomed embryos. The federal government will be able to regulate the research and ensure that it is lawfully conducted.

The ATS showed Margaret the features and functions of the LiveScribe pen. The ATS explained how the pen can record class lectures and important information without the worry of taking precise notes. The ATS observed Margaret as she wrote a small note, made a recording and played back the recording from the notebook. Margaret did not have difficulty maneuvering the pen, as she wrote the small note. Margaret stated the pen was a good fit and felt comfortable in her hand as she wrote. After that, the ATS showed Margaret how her notes are transferred from the pen and notebook to the LiveScribe Desktop and how to access her notes and lecture once more. What appealed to Margaret was having the ability to navigate the class lecture using her computer or pen/notebook. We as a global community are approaching a fully technological world. We have access to information just in the palms of our hands which consequently, leads to new learning methods. Technology has progressed and so has the modern student. Backpacks are now filled with Personal Digital Assistants, MP3 Players, Cell phones and laptops instead of notebooks and #2 pencils. The ease at which students can now wirelessly download electronic information from the internet has created an entire generation of students whose goal is not only to pass the class, but to pass the class with as little effort as possible.

...assroom. Sometimes there are people that it would not help learn because they need that face-to-face learning. It is just the way that they learn that it could benefit them or it could not . It should be up to the students on it they want to use the old fashion pen and paper or this new technology.
”Books will soon be obsolete in the schools...Scholars will soon be instructed through the eye. It is possible to touch every branch of human knowledge with the motion picture” (Thomas Edison). An idea that was destined for failure has now been made into the key source to get students and teachers more interacted while in a classroom setting. Tablets such as the iPad and the Microsoft surface have made this idea possible, showing students that there is another alternative to the traditional method which would be a printed version of the textbook. Tablets are portable computers that use a touchscreen as its primary input device, meaning that both keyboard and mouse are both physically located on the screen. Early Tablets were built to be used with a pen, today however tablets can be used with just one finger or multiple fingers with the support of multi touch input. Tablet have had a positive input on society especially students in school that are looking to get their work done in an engaging way and, not by moving a pen or pencil like it’s been done for decades. Tablets have proven to be the better tool for learning among students.
Many models are used to assist in understanding various leadership concepts. The one discussed in this essay is designed to illustrate the process of moving from a vision to a strategic execution. This class has given us the aptly named, “From Vision to Execution,” model. This model takes the shape of an inverted pyramid with six stages; Vision, Team Building, Environmental Scanning, Strategic Intent, Calibration, and Execution. This model, and the paragraphs below, are intended to show the necessary steps to take a broadly defined vision, evaluate and assemble the appropriate resources, review and design a plan of attack, and ultimately bring the vision to life. Encompassing each step is the overarching issue of constraints. Constraints can, and will, manifest themselves each step of the way. As seen in our slides, constraints can be regulation and laws, shareholders, the Board of Directors, social pressures and sanctions, legitimacy, or possibly even the vision itself. It is critical that leaders know where they want to go, and have a roadmap for getting there. This model is that roadmap. While it is not all-inclusive of the many talents leaders must possess, it does reflect many of the talents the great ones had. To further illustrate the model I will incorporate many examples of distinguished leaders from videos and class (Jobs, Kelleher, Welch), rely on several articles (Isaacson, PWC, Schwarber, Quiznos), and reiterate some information from our slides.
The power of nature is all around us and can be found almost anywhere. One is able to study nature through experiencing it firsthand, looking at a picture, watching a movie, or even reading a familiar children’s story. I believe that by learning more about nature we can grow closer to God. Emerson states, “Nature is so pervaded in human life, that there is something of humanity in all, and in every particular” (Emerson 508). Like Emerson, I believe that humanity and nature were created by God and we can learn more about the Spirit of God by studying nature. I also see that nature has the power to influence our emotions and actions. I see evidence of this through various landscapes such as the desert, the beach, the mountains and the jungle. I thought about the vastness of the desert during a recent trip to the desert with my class. I think about nature and my love for it when I am scanning through my photo album and see pictures that capture me enjoying the mountains of Utah. When I watched the movie The Beach I was struck out how nature, specifically the beautiful beaches of Thailand, influenced the actions of every character in the movie. Of course it is hard to read a legendary story such as “Jungle Book” and not see what a powerful effect nature and its’ animals can have over humans.
While walking through the park last Sunday, I observed a shocking scene. There were two cans: one for recycling and one for trash. The recycling receptacle had only an empty Dr. Pepper can and a few used Ozarka water bottles. On the other hand, the trash can had a plethora of half eaten meals, wrappers, banana peels and disgustingly even bottles, cans, newspapers and plastics that could have been recycled. Because people do not understand or do not care to understand about conserving our resources, many reusable items are being put in landfills when recycling these items could help save the environment. People should know the negative impact of throwing away a water bottle or newspaper, purchasing meat from the grocery store or consuming gasoline has on the environment, and many do not. By informing society about how their decisions affect the environment, we can help save our planet and change our attitude toward the land we live on, the water we drink and the air we breathe” and truly show respect for the stuff that we depend on.
