It is very common among the United States’ political sphere to rely heavily on T.V. commercials during election season; this is after all the most effective way to spread a message to millions of voters in order to gain their support. The presidential election of 2008 was not the exception; candidates and interest groups spent 2.6 billion dollars on advertising that year from which 2 billion were used exclusively for broadcast television (Seelye 2008.) Although the effectiveness of these advertisements is relatively small compared to the money spent on them (Liasson 2012), it is important for American voters to think critically about the information and arguments presented by these ads. An analysis of the rhetoric in four of the political campaign commercials of the 2008 presidential election reveals the different informal fallacies utilized to gain support for one of the candidates or misguide the public about the opposing candidate.

I came across this advertisement on the train on my way to school. I felt it was a natural ad because it showcased the New Yorkers we see; the diverse community and the different age groups represented made this advertisement feel relatable. The propaganda gave off a direct persuasive voice that went straight to the point of reporting suspicious activity. Some of the elements evident in this public service announcement include bandwagon, slogan, target audience, and the use of plain folks.
Have you seen any of the recent campaign advertisements that have been published by the 2016 presidential candidates? Presidential candidates are known for campaigning through different media outlets, such as television advertisements, social media, and their party rallies. In these advertisements, the candidates bash their opponents and try to show you why you should vote for them, and why you should not vote for their opponent. Hillary Clinton’s advertisements have really stood out to me and have been able to grab my attention. Particularly the “Role Models” video, which displays young children watching Donald Trump make discriminatory and offensive comments on the television screen.
His language that he uses is effective in reaching people because of how they can understand him; he tries to connect on a personal level showing he genuinely cares about the issues being talked about. Sanders facts that he uses during his speeches are helpful in showing that that he knows the information being talked about and he is using it to back his points. All the video clips are essential in that they display his past work within the political world and that Sander’s has proof of his political history. All things are beneficial and noteworthy to a growing campaign ad. Bernie has executed all three things meticulously and it has paid off, his supporters and voters are growing every day. Poems are expression of the human soul, and even though, is not everyone’s cup of tea when the individual finds that special poem it moves their soul one with the poet. There are many poets in the world, but the one that grab my attention the most was no other than Langston Hughes. It would be impossible for me to cover all the poems he wrote, but the one that grab my attention the most is called “Let America Be America Again.” It first appeared in “1938 pamphlet by Hughes entitled A New Song. Which was published by a socialist organization named the International Worker Order” (MLM) and later change back to its original name. I have never felt such an energy coming out of a poem like this one which is the reason that I instantly felt in love with it.
Considering Donald Trump has absolutely no experience in the political field, Hillary Clinton has an advantage being that her husband was the President of the United States back in 1993 to 2001. Not only that, but she was the Secretary of the United States in 2009 to 2013; therefore, her campaign not only reaches out to most democrats, but to some potential republicans as well solely based on her knowledge. This fact alone can be very effective for the legitimacy of her ad. The producer made many valid and honorable points as to why Hillary should be respected, highlighting her strengths of being well rounded and a good hearted citizen, With just the right words and visuals, you can really convince the voters into believing what is it they 're trying to say. The ad was very upbeat, setting the tone for viewers to feel happy and/or good vibes. The producer uses Hillary’s past accomplishments to provide the insight of a respected and potentially trustworthy person using linguistics and visuals. Insinuating Donald Trump does not have those values and simultaneously implying that Hillary, although deleting thousands of classified emails, can still be trusted through her grounded nature and immense care for families. Donald Trump is a successful businessman who has accomplished more than most people could ever dream of. He started in the real estate business and has his own university, appeared on a T.V. show, is a billionaire, has many golf resorts, and is the president of the United States. He is criticized for many of his comments and political views. Some of these views are him wanting to build a wall to protect the United States from illegal immigrants and drugs, wanting to replace The Affordable Care Act, and banning people from Muslim countries to keep out terrorists. Although Donald Trump is often viewed as a controversial figure, he benefitted the United States of America by improving and creating jobs, proving that non-establishment politicians can still win the presidency, and by making America safer.

“Negative advertising gets the supporters committed and excited” (Bike 1). What Bike is trying to say is that negative advertisement gets people excited and wanting to look into that specific person.
