Have you seen any of the recent campaign advertisements that have been published by the 2016 presidential candidates? Presidential candidates are known for campaigning through different media outlets, such as television advertisements, social media, and their party rallies. In these advertisements, the candidates bash their opponents and try to show you why you should vote for them, and why you should not vote for their opponent. Hillary Clinton’s advertisements have really stood out to me and have been able to grab my attention. Particularly the “Role Models” video, which displays young children watching Donald Trump make discriminatory and offensive comments on the television screen. For example, at the end of the commercial, the quote, “Our children and grandchildren will look back at this time… and we need to make sure that they can be proud of us.” (Clinton, H.), tries to create an atmosphere that makes you feel protective and compassionate, since most parents want to give their children the best life they possibly can. Another technique that was used in the commercial was showing the young children’s facial expressions while they were watching Trump discriminate others, and display disturbing behavior while being praised by his supporters. The children in general, convey certain feelings from the reader while watching the commercial. Children are seen as innocent and willing to learn, so when the viewer sees them watching Donald Trump speak as terribly as he does, emotions start to arise. The black screens that contain the phrases “Our children are watching.” and “What example will we set for them?” also sets a concerned tone. That concerned tone makes you question Donald Trump’s words and actions, as well as his qualifications to become the President. The music and somewhat, dark color scheme also create a gloomy atmosphere as well. Both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are big time names in the United States of America, so when watching the commercial, neither of the pair are very big strangers to the viewer. The author of the commercial, Hillary Clinton, has a great amount of experience, in a government setting, under her belt. Not only is she married to Bill Clinton, a former US president, but she is also currently the Secretary of State and was part of the US Senate. With that experience in the government, she is considered a credible source, in terms of what a presidential candidate should act and sound like. Although she is presenting information on her opponent, which may make this advertisement seem biased and make Mrs. Clinton seem like an unreliable source, she clearly presents facts by displaying the video footage. With that being said, I believe Hillary Clinton to be a completely credible author, since she has the proof to present herself as such. The ethos displayed in the commercial, or simply by hearing Hillary Clinton’s name and thinking of her qualifications, gives the viewer a solid idea of what type of author they are receiving a new point of view
Advertisements are one of many things that Americans cannot get away from. Every American sees an average of 3,000 advertisements a day; whether it’s on the television, radio, while surfing the internet, or while driving around town. Advertisements try to get consumers to buy their products by getting their attention. Most advertisements don’t have anything to do with the product itself. Every company has a different way of getting the public’s attention, but every advertisement has the same goal - to sell the product. Every advertisement tries to appeal to the audience by using ethos, pathos, and logos, while also focusing on who their audience is and the purpose of the ad. An example of this is a Charmin commercial where there is a bear who gets excited when he gets to use the toilet paper because it is so soft.
To summarize this analysis, Hillary Clinton shows us how as we unite, the stronger our bond is. She uses clever ways to show this action. Though Kennedy and Clinton addressed their audiences nearly thirty-two years apart, each rhetor faced a common rhetorical barrier – an American populace too heavily focused on the personalities within each respective presidential election rather than the true issues confronting the United States. To overcome that barrier, both Kennedy and Clinton utilize definitional strategies – in the form of association – as well as language strategies –specifically, historical allusions. Whether or not the speeches directly correlate with both candidates winning their presidential elections does not concern the examination; this paper observes how exactly the rhetorical devices used served to dissolve the barriers between the rhetor and the intended audience.
It is very common among the United States’ political sphere to rely heavily on T.V. commercials during election season; this is after all the most effective way to spread a message to millions of voters in order to gain their support. The presidential election of 2008 was not the exception; candidates and interest groups spent 2.6 billion dollars on advertising that year from which 2 billion were used exclusively for broadcast television (Seelye 2008.) Although the effectiveness of these advertisements is relatively small compared to the money spent on them (Liasson 2012), it is important for American voters to think critically about the information and arguments presented by these ads. An analysis of the rhetoric in four of the political campaign commercials of the 2008 presidential election reveals the different informal fallacies utilized to gain support for one of the candidates or misguide the public about the opposing candidate.

The goal of Hillary’s speech is to persuade her audience that her ideas are valid, by using ethos, pathos, and logos. Hillary is the First Lady and Senator, she shows credibility as an influential activist for woman rights. “Over the past 25 years, I have worked persistently on issues relating to women, children, and families. Over the past two and a half years, I’ve had the opportunity to learn more about the challenges facing women in my country and around the world” (Clinton 2).
On September 5, 1995 Hillary Rodham Clinton delivered a speech to the United Nations 4th World Conference during a Women Plenary Session, located in Beijing, China. Clinton spoke about how women around the world were not treated equally, how women rights should be equal to human rights, and the ghastly abuse and discrimination women faced around the world. The reason for the conference was to strengthen women, families, and societies in order to empower women to taking control of their lives and not be subject to such discrimination. She emphasized how education, health care, jobs, and political rights were not equal between genders and that the world needed to change. Clinton gave a very convincing speech because of her use of rhetorical techniques. The use of pathos, ethos, logos, and anaphora created a powerful, persuasive argument against the way women were treated around the world. Clintons main goal of this speech was to appeal to the audience and convince them that this is unequal treatment is an immense matter and needs to be addressed all over the world.
Advertisements are all over the place. Whether they are on TV, radio, or in a magazine, there is no way that you can escape them. They all have their target audience who they have specifically designed the ad for. And of course they are selling their product. This is a multi billion dollar industry and the advertiser’s study all the ways that they can attract the person’s attention. One way that is used the most and is in some ways very controversial is use of sex to sell products. For me to analyze this advertisement I used the rhetorical triangle, as well as ethos, pathos, and logos.
The video describes how our society may not even care about the product being advertised, but we still read the billboard or watch the commercial. Also mentioned was the use of colors in a commercial, the marketing effects in politics, and even market research obtained by studying different cults. Frontline takes an in-depth look at the multibillion-dollar “persuasion industries” of advertising and how this rhetoric affects everyone. So whether this is in the form of a television commercial or a billboard, pathos, logos, and ethos can be found in all advertisements.
The chemical sarin, is a deadly nerve agent that interferes with signaling within the nervous system (Geggel). This substance was used to kill 89 Syrians and injure 541 others (“Syria Chemical”). Syria is in a state of emergency due to the recent attacks from Russia and their own President Assad, and even more recent attacks from the United States, France, and Great Britain. Nikki Haley represents the United States as an ambassador in the United Nations. Due to the recent Russian bombings in Syria, the UN security council commenced and Mrs. Haley spoke about her concerns regarding what the states will do next. “Negative advertising gets the supporters committed and excited” (Bike 1). What Bike is trying to say is that negative advertisement gets people excited and wanting to look into that specific person. This essay is going to be about how negative advertisement should be allowed. People should have the right to pledge whatever they want to pledge in. “ A ban on negative political advertising would open the political world up to those who don’t want to be expose themselves to media bullies” (Admin 2). I believe that if people are scared to expose themselves then they must have something to hide. Even though negative things said about those candidates are not true, I believe that negative political advertisement should be allowed because negative advertisement makes people want to look more into that specific candidate and we are emotionally attached to negativity.
My first instinct would be to say yes, I think political advertising is good for American democracy in order that people may get to know the issues and what the candidates stand for. However, on the heels of that instinctive answer is my personal mistrust for all political ads. I believe that the ad was effective in many ways. It changed peoples views of immigration and provoked the emotional response that the company wanted. The quote and love for our country is what the commercial is about. There's no logos or ethos and that's what helped the ad stay emotional. 84 Lumber made a bold choice in showing the wall and creating a controversial ad that doesn't deal with what the company does. Obviously, this is a parody of the first debate but it really brought forth all the things wrong with it, that I didn’t notice until I watched this. The commercial was made to address the current issues of women's rights and gender equality. This is one of the first commercials that Twitter has ever shown during the Oscars and they used the campaign #HereWeAre. The goal of this commercial was to spread awareness to the lack of women being promoted in the tech-industry. Twitter wanted to show that there are many strong, intelligent, and important women that go unrecognized for their talents.
