False Advertising
Nowadays television and the advertising displayed in it is a part of everyday life in most households. What many people do not know is that television in many ways is bad. Numerous articles have been written on this. Many surveys and books have been written on this subject as well. The ads in television are what are especially bad. Some television ads are misleading.
Countless articles have been written on false advertising on television. Most of these articles target specific instances of fraudulent behavior, but some do address the television industry as a whole. These articles for the most part seem to be complaining about politicians (more so than the advertisers themselves) and the fact that "it is not politically palatable"(Miller) to make more stringent laws against fraudulent advertising. This means that politicians are not willing to make stricter laws for fear that they might come back to haunt them later. It is that topic that seemed to come up most in articles on false advertising.
Surveys have also been conducted to tell the amounts of "fraudulent" ads being seen on television and how they fluctuate from year to year. In the past ten years television ads which make fraudulent claims have "gone down significantly"(miller). This is in part due to several new laws which have been established. It is doubtful however that much more stringent laws will be put ...

...ics television advertisements. When such a significant line is blurred when do we draw it back on? Do we wait until we see the serious effects of this problem? When do we deem television addiction as serious? Advertisers want viewers to spend their hard-earned money on their brands. Therefore, they have devised elaborate commercials to lure consumers into their trap and once they have gotten their patronage, it is hard to say if they will ever let them go. So, watch out.
It may be hard to admit, but television has become an intricate part of our everyday lives. People children often find themselves sitting in front of the television screen for a longer period of time than before and this has evolved immensely over the past few years. In this article, “The Trouble with Television,” by the author Marie Winn, mentions that addiction of television is negative effects on children and families. It keeps the families from doing other things and it’s a hidden competitor for all other activities. Television takes place of play and on top of that kids who watch a lot of television grow uncivilized. Also, the author mentioned that televisions are less resourceful for children and have negative effects on children’s school achievement and on physical fitness. Although there are so many other types of addictions but the author Marie Winn’s points of argument of watching television is a serious addiction that our children and families have negative effects.
Pornography dates back to the 19th century in the Roman Empire, and eventually spread to other nations leading to outlaws of it. Ultimately, it was abolished, but pornography still managed to be smuggled. Pornography is now legal, to an extent according to age. Presently, there are many people who believe that women are portrayed as objects as opposed to persons when exploited in pornography. Also, that this creates the false impression that these women in pornography are secretly yearning to be raped. Other people, however, would disagree with these ideals and claim that pornography does not exploit women by characterizing them as objects. Some say that there are certain extents to which women are depicted as objects as well as where this
With virtuous ethics, one looks to examine not whatever makes a person good, but looks at whatever makes a person virtuous (Mosser, 2013). To be considered a virtuous person one must look look at the act and make a decision whether the act constitutes being immoral by the act a person is doing (Mosser,2013). In the relationship with virtuous ethic in pornography several people think the the females that are earning their living by acting in pornography are brave strong people that are brave enough to partake in what other perceive as wrong. On the other hand several people may look at he acts preformed by the adult entertainers as wrong. The thoughts are that sexual relationships should be out of love for each other and not viewed by the outside world. With this line of thinking females involved in pornography will be regarded by many as a degrading situation for women (Gubar, 1987). These people are using their opinion and beliefs regardless of evidence, arguments, and justification of the women that partake in the movies, photographs, internet materials, or on television (Mosser, 2013).Women that perform in such movies, photographs, television programs or online is using their bodies in addition to sexuality to earn money. The Indicated form of entertainment in the eyes of many individuals and organizations, such as churches perceives that a female is encouraging sex in the form that are not within their teachings or
... need to focus harder on providing us with information that is truly important to our lives. Now that we know, we, the audience must not believe everything we hear on the news and if we are truly interested in a story we hear, we must look into it for ourselves by going on the internet and looking up various articles about the topic that you were interested in. I do agree with all of these sources that advertisement has hurt everyone in negative ways and that many of us would feel more confident about ourselves without them in our lives. I don’t personally don’t agree with what advertisers do because I feel as if they try to find their way into our wallets without caring if we are buying junk or not. I believe that it should be mandatory for people to be handed their money back to them if the product does not come through with what it promises to provide you with.
To begin with, misleading advertising is the commercial speech “that can deceive consumers by ambiguity, through presentation or by omitting important information […] or including false information.” It is subject to federal regulation. Before 1895 fraudulent advertising was everywhere. It was not until 1893 to 1911 “when standards were in the making” due to the acknowledgement of ethical dilemmas of false advertising: deceiving the consumer and dishonesty.
Are advertising companies out of control now a days? Do they play on the average Americans fears about certain events in life to sell their products? Do they try to attack events that are one and a million to sell us useless things? Advertising companies use all of those tactics to sell things to the average everyday concerned American. This is especially evident in security systems, new cars, and also in equipment. This aspect of advertising is also apparent in commercials trying to stop Americans from buying things such as cigarettes and drugs. These advertising companies have been very successful in using this tactic to sell their goods.
There is much research that contributes to both points of view; whether pornography contribute to sexual behavior or if it does not have any effects. My opinion on this is that pornography like any other particular phenomenon that can cause addiction, sooner or later is going to have side effects. For example, researchers that believe that pornography does not have any effect on the individual argue that the pornography user, use pornography in order to space their reality and that they will not harm some other person because they live in a virtual world, however that individual will get tired at some point of living that virtual world and pornography will not be sufficient in order to achieve the desire pleasure that the individual is seeking. As many researches have shown also a person past experience can affect their sexual behavior; if the individual grew up in an environment where women where seen as sexual objects and less than men, this mentality can create some more aggressive behaviors towards women and
Watching sexual activities through mass media is prevalent around the world. Due to the recent progress of science and technology, pornography has become a more commercialized activity and a source of prostitution. It is nonetheless certain that everybody does not consume pornography for the same purpose. Some practitioners and producers may consider it as a means of subsistence or a re-enforcement of sexual desire and arousal. Pornography is rejected by many religious organizations on a divine and societal moral basis. It may not be the same for business industries whose main objective is to making money. Humans can watch pornographic videos and become addicted to it.
...omfortable. The way the majority of the pornography industry functions now is highly poisonous and detrimental to the perceptions people have of women- it tortures, violates and dehumanizes women, all in the name of artistic expression. If if there were a higher representation of women as pornography filmmakers that a large number of these issues would be resolved. Pornography made by women would at the very least put the camera and the power into a woman's hands, thus altering the male-controlled industry in those contexts. Fundamentally, pornography could be simply a healthy expression of sexuality. Obviously, in the patriarchal system in which pornography is ingrained that has stripped away women's power for centuries, there is no possibility that porn could be the only exception to the societal construction that lessens women and makes them subservient to men.
Again, there are different ideas of what is considered pornographic from artwork, movies, and books. While one may look at a painting that depicts nude forms or read a book that includes sexual acts may not see this as a form of pornography while others would find it morally offensive. Feminist would argue that the morality of porn is it is degrading and humiliating to those involved, not of its sexual nature. Their concern is that it promotes sexism and violence against women or children. “What is objectionable about pornography…is its abusive and degrading portrayal of females and female sexuality, not its content or explicitness” (Rodgerson & Wilson, 1994) However, others may feel that it is sexually liberating and in no way degrading to those involved. Those women feel in control of their sexuality and choose to participate in acts as a way of expressing themselves while feeling it has no barring on their moral character. While others would argue that it promotes immoral behavior which would lead to criminal acts or an unhealthy obsession with sex. “The most commonly feared adverse effects of pornography include undesirable sexual behaviors (e.g. adultery), sexual aggression, and loss of respect for traditional family structures and values, loss of respect for authorities, and a general nonspecific moral decay.” (Hald & Linz,
Similarly, numerous advertisements on mass media has also created adverse impacts on society. Critics substantiate this fact by giving argument that advertising of expensive products cause sense of depravity in the poor people. In addition, daily thousands of advertisements are destined to an individual through different mind process of a person.
Therefore, false advertising is seen as unlawful in various nations. (http://consumer.laws.com/false-advertising) In America, Truth in Advertising (TINA.org) exists to support honest advertising as well as eliminating deceptive marketing practices. Consumers in America lost billions of dollars due to false advertising and marketing every year.
Social media has become an extremely powerful and useful tool that enables people in a modern society to effortlessly interact and socialize with each other via the internet; however, there is an extremely dark and little known side of social media: addiction. Social media has the potential to become extremely addictive to its users. The addictive nature of social media may intensely interfere with users daily obligations in the real world, which may make a recovery process necessary in order to quell the powerful addiction.
