Everyone has been lied to at some point in their life whether it was from another half, a friend, a family member, or a person they just met. It doesn’t feel too great when someone finds out they’re being lied to. That being said, honesty is very important to everyone as it can ruin relationships between anyone. With honesty comes respect and one will only respect another through trust. Honesty is also very important because it is appreciated by whoever receives it even though it may hurt to hear it. The truth can hurt a person's feelings but a lie will destroy a person's trust, their respect, and their personal connection. We often come across many people who lie to us and/or other people and sometimes they find a way to get away with a …show more content…
He did not win presidency through the popular votes but through the electoral college vote (Kalb, 2017). One example is through his statement, “I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally” (Kalb, 2017). However, there is no significant evidence proving voter fraud (Kalb, 2017). I believe he did this to make himself feel better because he didn’t win the popular vote but wished he did. Although, I also think that by saying that also made him look bad because of his statement, “if you deduct the millions”. This makes him look bad because he lost by so much and by saying that he knows he did but wants to put the blame on …show more content…
Perseverance is a very important virtue to become successful (Campbell, n.d). The workers on the plantations pushed themselves so much just to get the job done even though the working conditions were horrible. In addition the workers that were subjected to slave labor learn to appreciate things further in life because of where they were during the time of the plantations. Perseverance is not based on the attitude of the person but more so based on the mental strength which proves the determination (Campbell, n.d). Perseverance is a very good virtue to have because it shows others how you have a strong character by overcoming difficult times (Campbell,
Telling the truth can have some consequences, but a lie can cause more damage in a relationship once it has been figured out. People believe that by just lying, a problem is solved, but problems start when lies are told. Lying destroys relationships and truth builds honest relationships which, can last forever. In both F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and Rob Marshall’s Chicago, characters lie because they feel that it is easier. However, lying leads to a downward- spiral. The society we live in can either lead us to a complicated relationship with the truth or easygoing. The problem with constantly telling lies is that it starts off with one, then leads to another until everything you say is a lie. Being truthful
The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines perseverance as the continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition. In today’s society, there are so many walls and barriers that prevent humans from achieving their dreams and goals and people begin giving up. However, great poets such as Homer and famous music groups such as Mumford and Sons have used the strife of humanity to compose works that can be used to inspire and institute hope for humanity. With perseverance, there are three key aspects, struggle, loyalty, and strength. The struggle is what allows humans to learn, grow, and better themselves, the loyalty demonstrated provides motivation for success, and the personal strength allows the person to build
Honesty requires someone with the best intention to tell the truth and to avoid communicating in a way that is deceiving. Intent has a vested relationship between truthfulness and truth. Someone can be truthful and ethical even if what they say is not actually truthful. Being incorrect in communication is not being an actual liar. Something told as the result of a mistake is not an act of dishonesty. Honest mistakes can still affect trust between communicators due to the extent of reliability and carefulness, but a person who makes a mistake is not considered a liar.
People tend to lie in everyday conversations to look and feel more likable. What if the truth could set you free, help make friends, or even be a part of a life long friendship? The argument usually brought up is, "Is it always best to tell the truth no matter the consequences?" I've been in certain situations were lies have caught up with me. That is to say, there isn't one way out of a lie, and you usually have to admit the truth one way or another. Some people think that lying isn't a big deal as long as they are small (white lies), but with enough of them you will be caught in the middle with no way out. You will be trapped in your lies, and don't ever think more lies will fix it! Lying isn't a good habit, and could trap you from a world of justice and incorruptible friends.
Hailie Hix 05/12/15 Pols 112-08 Term Limits Our generation is a hallmark of fast pace changes and modernizations. We live in a world where progresses and innovation dominate the themes of economics and politics. As a result, it is important that our lawmakers and those in Congress are attentive with the issues of today and are able to understand the nation’s youth. Without the flux of new members in Congress every couple of years, it is possible that our government will become distant from its people and behind in the times.
Imagine this! You and your friend are about to go to a party. However, your friend isn’t dressed up so satisfying. They ask you, “ Do I look good?” What would you say? I firmly believe that lying is unacceptable in our society.
Perseverance is very important to succeed and accomplish something in the world. Many people struggle to have this characteristic, but there are few groups of people out there who have this unique attribute. There was a time in history that African Americans worked together and persevered to achieve a common goal. This goal was to achieve freedom and desegregation; they believed if they worked together as a community they could attain this goal.
If anyone wants something bad enough, there will always be a way to obtain it. One intriguing case of perseverance lies in the story of Poon Lim, who survived 133 days lost at sea; one of the longest times anyone had survived being lost at sea. During the time of World War II, Lim worked as a steward on the SS Benlomond, but the ship sank into the sea after it had been hit by a German torpedo. Lim ended up being the only survivor and spent his time adrift at sea with only limited supplies and his wits to help him survive. Nevertheless, how did one man survive at sea on a small raft alone from the time before Thanksgiving until after St. Patrick’s Day? Lim lived because he powered through his troubles and hardships. Lim luckily yet persistently found a raft with supplies, set up a rain catcher for water, made a fishing line for food, and survived everything that the world threw at him. If Lim just decided to drown due to a sense of hopelessness, fundamentally speaking, the entire course of history would have changed, and he would not have become what people remember of him now if he did not persevere. Perseverance gives willpower to the frail, so that hope can be born inside of them and gives them what they need to make an influential mark as a human
Some people think lying is okay, others think it’s not. However, those who think all lying is not okay are being hypocritical. Everyone has lied at least once in their life. Lies in general are a part of daily life. Many people lie for various reasons. One of the most common reasons is to protect someone. There are also lies used to cause harm and lies in the interest of the liar. All in all, many people agree that lying is sometimes acceptable when protecting someone from emotional, physical, and mental harm.
To summarize, honesty is not the best policy. Lying is necessary, for a morally just or unjust reason. The truth sometimes blocks a someone from reaching their desires. If only the truth is told, it can be used against the everyone. If everyone was completely honest society could not function properly. Someone who can deceive will always find people who allow themselves to be fooled.
Lying may offer immediate relief from the consequences we face, but it also causes other problems. It can harm one's state of mind and life, hurt relationships and destroy the trust between people. Lying is always the quick fix to problems or uncomfortable situations. When lying, not only are you lying to the person you are trying to deceive, you are also lying to yourself, but your morals and values as well. In a world where lies are commonplace and truths are obscured, it can have a toll on someone's state of mind and thinking.
There are many types of lies , that is why i strongly believe lying has both pros and cons because people don’t always lie with the intentions to hurt people . Lying can also go either way , sometimes you lie to protect someone but in the end you end up hurting them more than if you would've just told them the truth . First , lying is okay in certain situations when you want to avoid hurting someone's feelings. Some people lie not to hurt people but to try and protect their feelings . Some people lie not to hurt people but
I do not know of anyone who wants to be known as Pinocchio, the wooden boy who lies and in a result, makes his nose grow bigger. As an old proverb says, honesty is the best policy. I agree with being honest at all times. First, telling the truth to me, is always the right thing. When I catch someone in a lie, I just think to myself, what has come up of this world? A person’s truths and lies prove who that person is, and what that person is capable of. Second, people can earn a great deal of respect and trust from telling the truth. Now, people trust their “gut feeling”, but someone’s “gut feeling” should always be truthful. Respect is something that is earned, and at sometimes, given to people who do the things that they are supposed to do for themselves and for others. Last, most people were taught to tell the truth at a very young age. A truth is
Can you remember the last time someone lied to you? Or how about the last time you lied to someone else? Did you ever stop and ask yourself why? There are so many different reasons that a person might lie. Maybe a lie about something to keep oneself out of trouble, or even a lie to impress other people. But either way there are always going to be serious consequences or effects of lying.
In certain circumstances and situations, I truly believe it is ok to lie. Initially, it is extremely beneficial to lie, rather than hurt the feelings of a loved one. Equally important, if you are trying to protect someone from getting impaired, it is okay to lie in order to keep them safe. Last but not least, exaggerations can help boost people’s self-esteem by making them exceptional. William Blake once said “A truth that's told with bad intent beats all the lies you can invent.” I urge you to question if honesty is really the best route, or is it okay to lie sometimes.
