Question #1 Do you think that it is fair for group members to hold other group members accountable to group work expectations that haven't been discussed and agreed upon by all groups members? Why or why not? When it comes to working on group projects, I believe it is unfair for group members to hold unmet, unstated expectations against fellow group members. All expectations should be stated clearly at the beginning of the project, in order to ensure no misunderstandings occur. Question #2 Do you think that it is fair for group members to expect other team members to complete their group responsibilities on time? Why or why not? Why or why not? The minimum writing length requirement for this question is two sentences. I believe it is unfair to ask group members to do the extra work of other group members. Sadly, this can be necessary for group projects. If the entire group gets the same grade, all members on the project should contribute equally. Question #4 Do you think that it is fair for group members to expect other group members to submit work that will help the group earn an A on a group project/assignment? Why or why not? Yes, I believe it is fair for group members to expect fellow group members to submit work that will help the group earn an A on a group project/assignment. Everyone involved in a group project should contribute to the best of their abilities and aim to achieve the highest grade possible. Question #5 Do you think that it is fair for group members to expect other group members to respond to emails regarding group assignments within a time frame that has been agreed upon by all team members? Why or why
Normally in a group, the work will be divided into the number of members in the group and may be arranged to each of the members to receive the part where they are more confident and have more knowledge of it. In addition, if a member is confused with their work, he can receive assistance from his teammates rather than just being alone and figure it himself independently. However, I believe sometimes been in a group can have its cons. A common pitfall associated with working as a group is disagreement about the way something is being done, a particular issue, or an opinion. Sometimes one member might have his own beliefs and want to perform a task in their way and conflict can arise from this. Once conflict arises, the members can discuss their own opinions and might arrive to a solution, but this can cause a member to not show their full potential because something was not done the way they wanted. I believe this is very common but if you are open minded, it can be overcome for the sake of the team to be
When making a group decision, it is important to consider everybody’s opinion as important and with respect, so the fairest decision can be made.
The group should come up with a list of tasks that need to be completed to lead to project completion. Assign tasks amongst the group, with this idea in mind: tasks are one thing that can be done by one person, not a major responsibility or series of tasks that complete a goal. The tasks should be completed by everyone, then put together into a whole to meet the goal.
You will be required to give peer feedback on your group member’s essays. Review their essays, and add comments to their papers.
I have to agree with Fred, I do not see how Cecilia can give a valid 40 percent grade to a student if that grade is based on other’s work and is not relating what standards she is testing. I could see an 80/20 split being more valid and just as motivating for the students in the group. I do not believe that any group project should have such an impact on a student’s grade as to fail it if the group members do not participate. I also would encourage Cecilia use the information that Popham (2017) points out in regards to a validity arguments. She needs to spell out the grading criteria and relate it to the standards with which she is grading the student on (intended interpretation). Then she needs to come up with a proposition that supports the intended interpretation, and collect as much relevant evidence as possible, then show that her score based interpretations are
I was curious about how is work going to be divided. Since the project requires everyone’s participation, the group work was divided fairly and equally among us. Also, I was excited to have a real working experience with my classmates. In fact, this project gave me an insight of how much we get along together regardless of our differences. During the project, pride was the dominant feeling. That is mainly because the outcomes of this project will most likely benefit the students, teachers, and faculty of The Wilson Elementary School.
First, the key to a fair and successful group work is communication. Although Natalie only contribute to the bare minimum in the group project such as participating minimally in discussion, writing, and planning, Greg and his group members failed to provide any thorough confrontation and communication, the result became damaging to the team work for the project. For Greg and his team members, their flaw was acknowledging to confront Natalie with her poor performance. Secondly, since there was no clear information provided about why Natalie performed poorly in the project, we can only assume that she did “the best she could”. However, confrontation could apply to the other side as well, Natalie could have confronted her group members about her
When working on a group project, there are certain skills that are required to make sure that the tasks are being carried out smoothly. With that in mind, it is critical to keep an open line of communication as well as an understanding of the other individuals in the group. The following scenario is of a group project I was a part of that had a breakdown in the two points expressed above.
In order to evaluate my role within the group, it is important to identify what makes a group. A group must firstly consist of more than three members, “Two members have personal relationships; with three or more there is a change in quality” of the personal relationship. (Bion 1961, p26) The group must have a common purpose or a goal in order to succeed. Having now completed my group work task, I can look back and reflect upon the process that my group went through to get to the presentation end point.
A group can be define as ‘any number of people who (1) interact with one another; (2) are psychologically aware of one another and (3) perceive themselves to be a group’ (Mullins, L, 2007, p.299). Certain task can only be performed by combined effort of a group. Organisation can use groups to carry out projects, which will help to achieve its overall aim. However, for the group to be successful they must understand what is expected of them and have the right skill to complete the task. . (Mullins, L, 2006)
Critical Reflection: Section B At first, my feelings towards working in a team were irritated, doubting and skeptical as I had never worked on a group assignment before and was distrustful about my grade on the assignment is not only dependent on my contribution, but also the contribution of others. At first, I thought that any lack of effort and poor quality of work that may potentially be done by my peers could negatively impact my mark. This was due to myself being quite introverted, preferring to work on my own, as I do not have to rely on and collaborate with others.
Working together with other people for an assignment can be a challenging task in some cases but luckily, I worked well with my group members. The decisions we made were anonymous although we paced ourselves individually when it came to completing our separate parts of the essay. As a group I believe that we connected well on an interpersonal level as all four of us were able to make alterations to any problem together . Furthermore, we did not give each other a chance to get angry at one another as we knew that this would only cause conflict that would disrupt our flow as a group. There was an equal divide in the amount of work that we all did; our contributions were fair and no one was lacking behind. In addition, my group members were great at keeping each other informed if one of us were not able to attend a group meeting; emails were sent out informing us what we missed and ideas that were formulated. Everyone in my group worked according to deadlines and in synchronization with each other; we did not have to nag anyone to complete work or wait on a member to complete their task.
In order to gain some purpose while working in a group, I know it can be challenging task to do because every group member is required to agree and cooperate. I am privileged to become a part of a group and completed our task successfully. Our group consists of 5 members and we experienced the stages of group development along with which different roles being considered. Our group formed with the common interest of competing and representing ourselves as competent and knowledgeable. The storming phase involved a trial being held to determine the capabilities of each other and positions were found to be disputed due to which we voted on leader of team. In the norming stage, roles of every group member have been stated and identified with the
In conclusion, I really did enjoy the this group project. We had great group chemistry, an interesting topic, an effective and consistent preparation period. That sounds like a formula to a successful group project to me. This is probably the most enjoyable group work experience for me at Augustana so far. If I could, I would do it
