At first, my feelings towards working in a team were irritated, doubting and skeptical as I had never worked on a group assignment before and was distrustful about my grade on the assignment is not only dependent on my contribution, but also the contribution of others. At first, I thought that any lack of effort and poor quality of work that may potentially be done by my peers could negatively impact my mark.
This was due to myself being quite introverted, preferring to work on my own, as I do not have to rely on and collaborate with others.
However, following the completion of the group assessment, I have come to realize that the experiences gained and skills developed when working within a team will assist me in the future to have a positive group dynamic when undergoing other team/group projects. This can be achieved understanding the situation from each person’s point of view. Taking the time to make sure that everyone's perspective is listened to. After both sides of a perspective are discussed, attempt to compromise between all person’s involved by coming to a common conclusion so that the group as a whole can move forward.
To avoid conflict in future instances it is suggested that at the beginning of the assessment/project, some ground rules should be set in the first meeting to maintain a positive environment from the beginning through to the end (Carnegie Mellon University, n.d.).
The attitudes/values/beliefs, as well as strategies when working within the team and how to address issues if they ever arise throughout a project, have taught me how to communicate and collaborate with others in a professional setting. Therefore enabling me in the future to develop and sustain a positive group dynamic when undergoing future team/group
In addition to this, I feel that my Team building class gave me good insight into the inner workings and mechanics of how teams work. More work.

This will help prepare students for the workforce, where they will be required to collaborate with others.Some suggest that this style of learning may not be as effective for other students, more specifically; introverts. Susan Cain is one of those people. Susan Cain is an American author and lecturer, as well as the co-founder of the Quiet Revolution, a movement dedicated to motivate introverts to create a change, no matter how quiet they are. Cain suggests that there should be a balance between collaboration and solitude in both academic and work settings.
In a team-oriented setting, everyone contributes to how well the group succeeds overall. You work with fellow members of the group to complete the work that needs to be done. Having the right people in the correct roles is an important factor in measuring the success of a team, where you are united with the other members to complete the main goals. Every group is made up of definite strengths and weaknesses. Our team's 3-5 major strengths necessary to work accordingly consist of Informer, Summarizer, Orienter, Piggy-Backer, and Encourager. One of our strengths as a team is that we get input from everyone involved. Every member of our team is a leader in some way. Part of being a good leader is knowing how important it is to receive the best ideas from each member of their team. We attend group meetings where we discuss any challenges, issues, and problems. At these meetings, we often exchange ideas or brainstorm new ones with each other and come up with the best and most creative team solutions as potential answers to those perceived problems.
In order to evaluate my role within the group, it is important to identify what makes a group. A group must firstly consist of more than three members, “Two members have personal relationships; with three or more there is a change in quality” of the personal relationship. (Bion 1961, p26) The group must have a common purpose or a goal in order to succeed. Having now completed my group work task, I can look back and reflect upon the process that my group went through to get to the presentation end point.
Otherwise, I assisted to help writing the report, such as, made the time line diagram, did proof reading for the report, and give suggestion about the structure of the report. 3. Reflection on group challenge As for the group challenge, I think our team works very well, the manager were taking his role excellently and arranged the time and responsibilities reasonably.
After a review of my performance in the assigned group, I have learned a great deal about myself and behavior in the team-setting situation. This is not the first experience in a team-setting. Previous team setting experiences were conducted in sporting and recreational environments rather than academics. While the setting and the environments were indeed different, there were many commonalities and correlations between the team settings I previously experiences and the current academic team-setting experience for this academic course project.
Therefore, I felt joy after hearing these strengths because it made me realize that I performed better than I thought. Although this session involved sadness, I felt that the group leaders helped us effectively end the session. Our group leaders gave us the opportunity to reflect on our personal strengths, along with weaknesses, and overall experiences in lab, which allowed us to end our session slowly and leave the group
But I realized, in my not so distant past, I had already been trying to do that for a very long time and it made me very miserable. I can't tell you how many groups I tried joining before I started this blog. When I was on the last leg of my college schooling I joined a ton of groups, the wrong groups, and I even joined a lot of groups during my career job. (I know I said to join a ton of groups while in school, but towards the end of your college career, groups become less effective as most people your age have already found their cliques and girlfriends through groups so they tend to do them less and less. That's why I'm so adamant about finding your college club day for your freshman year in my college guide.)
A group can be define as ‘any number of people who (1) interact with one another; (2) are psychologically aware of one another and (3) perceive themselves to be a group’ (Mullins, L, 2007, p.299). Certain task can only be performed by combined effort of a group. Organisation can use groups to carry out projects, which will help to achieve its overall aim. However, for the group to be successful they must understand what is expected of them and have the right skill to complete the task. . (Mullins, L, 2006)
CRITICAL REFLECTION ON GROUP ASSIGNMENT During the process of making the video assignment, our team experienced a wide range of barriers related to the behavior of individuals who are members of the team. Poyrazli in 2011 argue that differences in character and cultural background become one of the factors that reduce the efficiency of the team performance, because, the team members are consist of international students from China, Indonesia, Australia, Vietnam and India. Working together with other people for an assignment can be a challenging task in some cases but luckily, I worked well with my group members. The decisions we made were anonymous although we paced ourselves individually when it came to completing our separate parts of the essay. As a group I believe that we connected well on an interpersonal level as all four of us were able to make alterations to any problem together . Furthermore, we did not give each other a chance to get angry at one another as we knew that this would only cause conflict that would disrupt our flow as a group. There was an equal divide in the amount of work that we all did; our contributions were fair and no one was lacking behind. In addition, my group members were great at keeping each other informed if one of us were not able to attend a group meeting; emails were sent out informing us what we missed and ideas that were formulated. Everyone in my group worked according to deadlines and in synchronization with each other; we did not have to nag anyone to complete work or wait on a member to complete their task.
This turned out to be the positive group experience for me and other group members. The team was sufficiently strong from the very beginning through the development phase to the end without any incident of conflict and disagreement. Every group member is reliable and understands their roles working in a group. They also understand the significance of progressing collectively towards the shared and common goal. In other words, our group reflected the synergy by the association we held with each other as a team and, thus, reflecting an example of being a successful
Many times people forget that teamwork is a combination of the words TEAM and WORK. Which means it takes more than a combined group of people or a team, but it takes that and actions. Positivity, effective skills and effort from each group member. A good team member does their share of work in the group. equity and fairness are key in being a good team member also. A few other characteristics that help a group be successful are , positivity, complimenting other members, communication skills and fairness. Topic 2: Today we discusses how mutual support and respect is part in a group work. By doing a group activity in class we learned how different situations in the collective can impact your own image in manager’s eyes.
