Last year I lived in Scott Hall, since it was a freshman dorm there was always a strong sense of community. This year I live in Holshauser and though there are a lot of friendly people it lacks of a the sense of unity that I felt in Scott. I think that I could help Holshauser feel more like a community, while also allowing the residents to know more about their community. Want to help foster happier and healthier relationships between all the resident that live on campus. Open mindedness is one of the best qualities to have when working with a group. When people with different backgrounds come together it allows for a pleura of new ideas to form. It is important to take all of these ideas into consideration, even if the ideas seem foreign or new. Seeing so many different attitudes, cultures and ways of thinking come together, initially it caused a bit of an internal conflict for me. Views that differed with my own beliefs originally caused me discomfort. But as the year progressed I not only learned how to deal with many types of people but also how to understand and respects their ideas. I realized that the differences in people should not cause tension instead make the world better. Organizations that bring people help show that it does not matter where you are from , diversity in people leads to diversity in thought, and diversity in the way YOU think about the world. From being in OAS my scope of how i view the world and how I view people changed drastically. Now I am willing to listen to all ideas because it not only benefits the groups but it benefits me. Politics in Pompeii and Herculaneum was an essential and important aspect of life. Politics enabled the towns to run successfully and smoothly. There were elections held for politicians, which included the election of two Duumviri and two pairs of Aediles. The comitum, which was made up of roman males who were over the age of 25, voted for who they believed should be the next Aediles and Duumviri. People who were running for the positions or people who wanted someone they liked to be elected would leave messages everywhere to promote and advocate them in hopes for them to be elected. There were over 2000 electoral notices found in Pompeii. This can be shown in source B which is the programmata from the House of Loreius Tiburtinus, Pompeii.
As an Orientation Leader, I will contribute to the development of an inclusive community by making sure to engage everyone in my OL group in all activities. Moreover, I will make sure to set ground rules regarding our discussion (for example, people must wait their turn to speak if someone else is already speaking). I will also be cognizant of the fact that some students may be more vocal, while others may feel more shy or withdrawn. I also realize that cultural differences can also lead some students to see others as unfriendly or in a less positive light, and therefore would work hard to support all students in my Orientation group
The initial community meeting has a great impact on the tone of the community. During the meeting, I would like to tell my residents our ultimate goal, having a good community. Then I would explain what a good community is. A good community is one where we share the resources and seek to improve the environment. Characteristics of a good community would include clean and safe environments, equity and social justice, diversity, mutually-supportive relationships and eager participation of residents. I will achieve this by encouraging residents to be part of the process of establishing expectations. By this way, they would become more invested in the expectations as they help create them or otherwise they may see these expectations as imposed from above.

Dental professionals have a commitment to respect diversity and create equity of access to dental care for everyone (GDC, 2014). Diversity describes any dimension that can be used to differentiate an individual from others. It requires understanding that each individual is unique and accepting and respecting these individual differences (QCC,2013). These differences could be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender, age, socio-economic status or other ideologies (QCC, 2013). Understanding the impact that these differences may pose is vital in dealing professionally with people from diverse backgrounds and delivering equal treatment for all. Equality refers to identical treatment in dealings quantitates and values (Braveman, and Gruskin, 2003). Thus, creating equality for all might not mean that there are no disparities between different groups. Equity on the other hand refers to fairness and the equality of outcomes and involves recognizing aspects of a system that may disadvantage a certain group and correcting them (Braveman, and Gruskin, 2003). Therefore, in order to overcome potential pitfalls that may create inequity to access, there is a need to explore the different factors encountered in our diverse society that may create these issues. As an example, patients from different ethnic backgrounds may be faced with barriers accounting for the less frequent use of dental care (CQC. 2010). This group will be used as an example and some of the issues behind this inequity of access will be looked at further.

Amendment I of the United States Constitution states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Through this simple statement made so many years ago, the founding fathers laid down not only the framework for the basic freedoms that Americans cherish, but also the foundation for establishing a diverse nation. You see, without diversity, there cannot be freedom, and without freedom, there cannot be America.

I used to always have a “my way or no way” attitude, but eventually I realized that if I wanted to get anywhere in life I needed to change my way of thinking. When I hear diversity many things comes to mind covering a wide range of interests, backgrounds, experiences. Some of the different types of diversity in which I have taken the chance to be a leader in whether it is among groups of people and individuals on the topic of ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, gender, exceptionalities, language, religion, sexual orientation diversity, etc. Diversity of experiences, viewpoints, backgrounds, and life experiences. However, I believe I’m able to also keep an open mind when listening to others from different backgrounds and with different . Going to school with many different cultures is exciting. I get to learn about cultures I have no clue about, such as Buddhism, Chinese, even Japanese. Going to a school that is very diverse makes me able to talk to others and learn about their cultures, and maybe even make friends with people I thought I would never make friends with. It also goes to show that everyone was not born the same, and no matter what a person’s differences are we should respect them and have no problem conversing with them. As with me, I consider myself a diverse person. My mom is Irish/American and my dad is Lebanese, so coming from a family where two cultures come together is really interesting. We celebrate Ramadan which is the fasting during the holy month for Islam, and we also celebrate Christmas, the birth of Christ in Christianity. Getting the best of both worlds is really intriguing, because I can celebrate two totally different holidays from two different religions and now how to respect both. I know for a fact that I do bring diversity to University of Toledo because not most people know an American-Lebanese.

The “educated mind” also assists in problem-solving, which is another pivotal factor as a professional. Problem-solving is enhanced when a variety of different solutions are obtainable; open-mindedness gives people the opportunity to expand their views, creating more options, thus superior solutions(essential life skills). The open-mindedness exhibits an employee’s capacity to learn and create new, supported ideas; in addition, it is appealing to employers to have people who are collaborative and perceptive. An
