When I hear diversity many things comes to mind covering a wide range of interests, backgrounds, experiences. Some of the different types of diversity in which I have taken the chance to be a leader in whether it is among groups of people and individuals on the topic of ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, gender, exceptionalities, language, religion, sexual orientation diversity, etc. Diversity of experiences, viewpoints, backgrounds, and life experiences. Tolerance of thought, ideas, people with differing viewpoints, backgrounds, and life experiences. I have challenged myself to be a leader on issues of diversity by continue challenge for racial diversity and wrong racial ideology in the debate space.
When we being the Washington Technology Debate Team four years ago the goal was to create a program to help to foster an environment in which all students can build early and honest relationships across the color line in the debate space. I took great pride in not just being a follower that was content with helping in missions to help beaked down the institutional racism and races rhetoric that justified racism as a necessary for the common good. For four years I spoke at every debate of how it was vital for us to have an understanding of white privilege, which started with all of us owning the reality of racism in modern day society and taking responsibility for them, which is crucial to this process. Challenging traditional structures is not easy at all, meanly when it comes to race and understanding racism. Debate as an activity has for the longest time has only been accessible to the select few who are already part of the elite circle of policy debate, which leaved them closed up, unwilling to change and diversify their program and their personal ideology. Those who believed they can’t be racism because, “They don’t see color” those who “only saw people”. Many of these debate students had to go through the stage of shedding their colorblind ideology. If diversity discourse and efforts at inclusion do not include a serious and open discussion of colorblindness, racism, and white privilege, including the many ways those realities intersect with other identities and oppressions, our racial ambivalence will continue. We leave our self-open for deterioration. The problem with colorblindness is that it invalidates people’s identities, racist experiences, narrows westerners understanding of the world and leads to disconnection, equates color with something negative and disingenuous, making it seems that being a person of color is bad and we shouldn’t bring up the color line. Ignoring my skin color does not make us equal. This notion that we should all be colorblind further separating and segregating ourselves. I am so passionate that we as people should have more diversity of backgrounds life experiences, thought, ideas that I have challenged myself to be a leader on issues of diversity by continue open my communities to challenge themselves on racial diversity and wrong racial ideology.
I have gone on to become a leader not only during debate tournaments and visits to other High schools, College/Universities, but also in my classrooms, church, and other part of my community. I think the fight is still raging on and my present I just one small step, but I know it works. I believe that this can and must happen in other organizations and
communities.
Throughout the years of being a student at Council Rock, I have come to the realization of what a true leader is. A leader is not someone that just plans events, collects money, or shows up to meetings. Rather, this is someone that has a true connection with their peers, and has unmatched passion for what they do. When people hear the word 'diversity', they often think in terms of black and white. I believe the true meaning of diversity is not simply about skin color, economic background or the face value of any other characteristic, rather it is the increased knowledge and sensitivity gained from unique experiences. The strength of diversity then comes from having many points of view and trying to reconcile them by finding common truths or resolving differences amongst people. Being a person of mixed heritage, my father is black and my mother is white, has definitely affected my life and contributed to the development of qualities that enhance my ability to embrace the uniqueness of those around me. Being raised in a single parent household and the values passed on to me by my mother have also been strong influences in my life. My greatest contribution to my community is the ability to create relationships between people of diverse backgrounds and a desire to understand others' beliefs.
Dental professionals have a commitment to respect diversity and create equity of access to dental care for everyone (GDC, 2014). Diversity describes any dimension that can be used to differentiate an individual from others. It requires understanding that each individual is unique and accepting and respecting these individual differences (QCC,2013). These differences could be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender, age, socio-economic status or other ideologies (QCC, 2013). Understanding the impact that these differences may pose is vital in dealing professionally with people from diverse backgrounds and delivering equal treatment for all. Equality refers to identical treatment in dealings quantitates and values (Braveman, and Gruskin, 2003). Thus, creating equality for all might not mean that there are no disparities between different groups. Equity on the other hand refers to fairness and the equality of outcomes and involves recognizing aspects of a system that may disadvantage a certain group and correcting them (Braveman, and Gruskin, 2003). Therefore, in order to overcome potential pitfalls that may create inequity to access, there is a need to explore the different factors encountered in our diverse society that may create these issues. As an example, patients from different ethnic backgrounds may be faced with barriers accounting for the less frequent use of dental care (CQC. 2010). This group will be used as an example and some of the issues behind this inequity of access will be looked at further.

Every person their own unique attitude and beliefs that will affect their understanding of diversity, equity and democracy due to the fact that everyone is brought up differently. Throughout this semester—as a class—we discussed why and how diversity is important, and how we can manage diversity in successful and productive approach. My aim in this paper is to clarify what—I believe—ought to do as an ethical leader toward promoting diversity. First, I will briefly discuss the importance of ethical leadership and diversity. Then, I will shadow on other dimensions in understanding diversity and how to achieve them. Race relations are always a scary or uncomfortable topic for people to discuss amongst groups of different ethnicities and racial identities. It is a long standing tradition in the United States to walk a fine line and use politically correct terms in the above mentioned setting but to feel perfectly comfortable to speak freely when in a setting surrounded by likeminded people who share similar political affiliations and race. Traditionally, diversity refers to an assortment of races, ethnicities, genders, ages, disabilities and perhaps sexual orientations. A definition of diversity, however, should not be constrained by traditional categories such as these. Such a definition should also include categories such as religion, educational level, life experience, geographic location, socio-economic background, marital status and work experience. Indeed, each person employed by a company possesses unique qualities that encompass many factors.

I personally enjoy practicing Multiculturalism because I find it fascinating learning from another country cultures. In America there are a lot of different ethnic groups and throughout my 22 years of living, I have learned so much within every country. I still have more learning to do, but I slowly understand as many cultures as more than my own parents did. Diversity is a value that shows respect for the differences and similarities of age, sex, culture, ethnicity, beliefs and much more. Having a diverse organization, helps notice the value in other people and also how to teach respect to people that might not know how. The world is filled with different cultures and people that might believe in different things as you, but that doesn’t mean you need to treat them any different. It is imperative for people to grasp diversity because it’ll help people how to engage with others in a respectful yet a hospitable way.
In the future, the world will only become more diverse. People should learn to appreciate it by acknowledging the differences around them. Sometimes people are scared that “recognizing differences will divide people from each other. However, learning about cultural differences can actually bring people closer together” ( “Section 1”). It would be better if people became closer together instead of growing apart because of discrimination and other mistreatment. Building relationships with different cultures should be a goal of everyone and even nations as a whole. Each group has different strengths that can benefit the the community altogether. Since the world will definitely become more diverse, it is important to be informed about cultural groups so you can become more marketable and succeed in a diverse world.
