Over the years, the practice of law has been left to the regime of a group of people commonly referred to as lawyers. Though the term may vary from place to place or jurisdiction, the same has a general meaning to refer to those who have studied law. Further it is left to the jurisdiction’s discretion to determine how they are to grant one the status of being a lawyer either through education, certification amongst other means that different jurisdictions apply to afford such a status.
I am a native Virginian and a graduate of the prestigious Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary. After being admitted to the Bar in 1980, I clerked for the Judges of the Circuit Court in Fairfax County. I then opened my own private practice in Arlington before relocating to my hometown of Stafford, VA. Additionally, I accepted appointments from the Circuit Courts of Stafford and Spotsylvania to assist the Circuit Court in resolving domestic matters.
Prosecutors are important in the workings of the American judicial system. They play a half of the two part adversarial system that we use during trials. The prosecutors are attorneys that represent the interest of the government. This means that when they prosecute a case they are not representing the victim, but all of the people in the state or country because such crimes are considered to be against the general populace.
Experience. All of the classes in the world could not prepare one for the nerve that it takes to stand before a judge and jury with your client beside you trusting you to put up a fight. I had the opportunity to witness the behind the scenes action as a young attorney recently prepared for his first trial. What I saw is not what would normally happen but it is something that does happen. This attorney was given about three hours to prepare for his first trial, he had about three ye...
The words I heard from Justice Eva Guzman have penetrated my heart and have helped mold my path. I cannot begin to imagine to know what I can accomplish with hard work and great dreams. To be a lawyer one must be able to accomplish the mountains of reading, to endure the countless cases, the insufferable hours. I know I have the ambition. I know I have the abilities. This is my moment and I need to seize it. I have the perseverance.
I wish to pursue a career as a solicitor as it requires a certain skill set which I believe I possess. A career as a solicitor allows for constant intellectual challenges, a social environment which requires teamwork and a gregarious personality, and tangible responsibility in each step of one’s career.
The field of Law is a systematic practice that has not change much since its inception. As we embark upon the 22nd Century so must the field of Law. While many practices are ritualistic in their nature, they must make way for technology in addition to younger lawyers entering the field with a variety of skills sets. Lawyers must now make accommodations for technically savvy clients that have access to a wealth of information. With more demands being placed on time management and the struggle for work life balance and international industry, the field of Law will have to loosen its reigns on tradition and embrace the 22nd Century with an new openness in order to maintain a competitive edge.
Every area of our lives is governed by the law and sometimes, having a committed advocate on your side, one who will represent you with passion and well-directed drive, can literally mean the difference between life and death. We have all heard the stories about lawyers who worked tirelessly and against odds to have their wrongfully accused clients released from death row. We hear less, however, about the lawyer who works tirelessly and against odds to help his or her client access healthcare benefits and life-sustaining medication that can mean the difference between life and death. And we also hear less about the lawyer who works with zeal to help his or her cl...
My work experience placements have left me wanting to do a lot more in the legal sphere. Whilst working at the BBC, the dominance of international and domestic issues in news items which were broadcast, highlighted the relevance of a thorough knowledge and understanding of social issues and hence the legal system. In addition my work experience in a non-governmental organisation (HCA) helped me to distinguish the different types of problems faced by those who were seeking help from the organisation, such as injustice and civil conflict. My work experience with a freelance solicitor has also been invaluable in gaining practical skills in the implementation of the existing law system. My work experiences have undoubtedly built upon the skills I have gained through my academic experiences.
In Intro to Criminal Justice class, I had the opportunity to learn about the Criminal Justice System more thoroughly. And 95 percent of cases I hear involve technology and privacy. Anyway, I graduate high school and went to major in economy and minor in history. And while working as an intern at Business Analyst, I got a master in political science. For the next few years, I took a part time job as a staff for a New Jersey senator; while also pursuing a Juris doctorate degree. Right after school, I become a New Jersey public defender. I decided to settle in NYC when I was 28. I worked as an Assistant District Attorney for 9 years, and later the District attorney of NYC; After 7 years as district attorney, I ran successfully for Attorney General of New York state. And when I turned 49, I was nominated to succeed a previous NY state federal judge who retired that year. After Senate confirmed me, I become a NY federal
