How do students become financially prepared for the real world? Students go through school for quite a few years, they learn reading, math, science, etc. But there is not a finance class to teach students the basics of finance. Now you might think that students wouldn't take the class. That is why you could implement a school currency system. A currency system would be helpful in many ways, although many people are against it, because there could be some flaws in the system. Helping students improve grades, improving daily attendance, teaching important life skills, and improving a students level of responsibility, are reasons why a currency system should be implemented in school. Our first reason why we beleive a currency system in school is important because it helps pupils improve in school studies.As John Shindler says," At their best they can help promote good habits and shape more functional patterns of action" (Chapter 7 Transformative Classroom Management).If you offer a student to work hard now, then offer a reward later in return it would be beneficial(Jones Preferred Activity Time).If a student works hard academically now, they will reap the benefits later. Eventually they will learn that if you work hard in school or work you will receive rewards and you can take the reward away with them knowing that hard work will always recieve a reward. Another reason that explains that we need to implement a currency system in our school is it it helps a lot with school attendance. The teachers use a currency in order to reward the children in a way of “cash” rewards. Nearly 100% of the students in the school are living in poverty at home, are African-American, and are without a preschool education. In addition to this, approximately one in four students in the U.S. drops out of school before graduation. The main reason for this is that students have little to no motivation. Students are either bored with school, or they are distracted by the other things that go on in their lives such as sports, jobs, friends and their own family life.
One of the greatest resources was George’s communication journal. Rather than speaking out or distracting the class, he would use his journal to write something down and was able to reflect on his at an appropriate time. George is highly motivated by positive reinforcement. I found that by allowing him to “choose” his reward was extremely effective. He was able to process that by doing his work and following the rules, he would be rewarded. The purpose of schooling can be highly subjective, but some core purposes have persisted through time. These core values are important and will continue to be the driving force of education. Unfortunately, many times the idealized purposes of education are vastly different from the reality. Our education system is not perfect but it is constantly improving. Despite its flaws, our current school system does teach our children many important skills, both socially and academically. School gives our children a chance to reach their full potential and succeed in life. As our culture changes, so will our purposes behind educating our children.
In conclusion, students should be paid to do well in school because it has many benefits to the student. Those benefits include motivation to get good grades, the money would help the student financially, and the student would learn how to manage their money more effectively. Schools exist to produce well educated youth that society will benefit from. From personal experience, ill-informed adults make for an unstable, rotten community. Schools hold a big responsibility. They should create a safe haven for students that creates a love for learning, and then also nurtures that same admiration for learning. Schools that students don’t feel safe in usually house students that aren’t interested in subjects that are being taught. They should maintain a well-educated faculty who is all passionate about what they do. If there is a lazy faculty, it will influence the students to become lazy. In the real world, you do earn rewards for your accomplishments and achievements. For instance, a college student who earns all A’s will be rewarded by being placed on the Dean’s list. On the other hand, a college student may not be proactive, self-controlled, or responsible and make D’s and F’s leads to the consequence of having a low GPA and retaking classes. Credit should most definitely be given when it is due. A part of motivation is encouragement in telling students how well they accomplished any task and sometimes rewarding the entire class for all good things and effort they put forth. My ultimate goal for my Classroom Management Plan is to model self-discipline by teaching it through my daily actions so that students may be able to self-manage themselves accordingly. This day and time motivation seems to be harder to achieve. The use of homework passes and free time would be used as a form of motivation. Students, young and old, appreciate rewards even if it is only verbal praises. Some form of recognition creates a desire to achieve even more. Notes written by the teacher on returned homework or test papers may give inspiration to a shy student. This is also a way in letting the student know that they are an individual who is capable of achieving great things if they really try.
Marking work is naturally a slow process, if a teacher assess the pupil premium students work first then those students get the most detailed and constructive feedback from the teacher. Effective feedback has been proven to add an additional 8 months progress per school year for a student.
