Everyone has a trait that defines them, that helps shape them into their own unique personality. None of those traits are inherently good or bad but there are ones that are more noticeable in the grand scheme of things. Reflecting on the past years, I have noticed subtle patterns that concern the people that I look up to as well as admire. Each individual all share common traits that help to make my life easier. Perseverance, an open mind, and passion are admirable traits that have consistently proven that individuals who possess them are the ones that instill inspiration and hope.
Perseverance is synonymous with a variety of words but it is the word that best describes an admirable trait. It is the ability that allows you to keep a grip on

In relation to perseverance, having an open mind gives you that ability to grow and become a better version of yourself. Because while it is important to maintain your sense of self, it’s also important to not stay trapped in the mold. My dad is a prime example of this trait. He is a man who is persistent enough to deal with whatever gets thrown his way, but he has also changed. The person that he was fifteen years ago is not the person that he is today and that’s normal. If my dad was the same as he was fifteen years ago, I would not be where I am right now but more importantly, he would not be where he is now. Having that ability to know what you did wrong and acknowledging it, is important. Not only does it allow you to avoid making that same mistake in the future but it also helps you to grow. Making mistakes is a daily occurrence in our lives but we can not let them dictate us forever. Another thing to note, the world is always changing and turning into something new. You have to be able to adapt to that change as well as understanding it. Living your life in a constant, never-ending state, you are bound to run into difficulties. But it’s easy, to continue your life that way instead of opening yourself up to those challenges, to allow yourself to become vulnerable. And the people with an open mind typically tend to be the ones who are able to spread what they have
Some people are born with it, others are not so lucky. It’s the feeling of raw bravery and a want to be the best. A way of always seeing the light even before the dawn. People often mistake it for just “never giving up”, but this is much more, almost a superpower. Perseverance is not just the optimisty of dreamers it’s knowing how to live, even when you’d rather be dead.
Our minds are powerful, how we think makes us who we are, the more our minds open and
“ I am a slow walker but I never walk back.” Sometimes it takes time but you always want to get to the end. Even if things get in your way or something is hard, you never give up and you keep pushing forward. In my opinion, perseverance is an excessively essential trait to have in the case of survival. Shackleton needed to get out of the Ice to survive, he canoed for a severely long amount of time. It was very tiring and even so Shackleton didn’t give up. In the book Hatchet Brian needed a fire to survive. He kept trying but nothing seemed to be working, he never gave up and he just kept going.
“The good guy always wins” is a phrase we often hear growing up. Parents reassure their kids that the hero will win despite the trials he encounters. Joseph Campbell, who coined the term “monomyth”, identifies these trials as a part of a pattern in the hero’s journey. This pattern consists of separation, initiation, and return. Osmosis Jones goes through this pattern with only a few pieces missing. The hero in this story teaches others that giving up is not an option. One must have perseverance to complete a goal, in this case, to save Frank. The journey that Jones takes to help him get through the monomyth helps develop the theme of perseverance because he never gives up on what he wants.
My perseverance has prepared me for a career in medicine. The path towards becoming a physician can be long and challenging, necessitating the ability to endure. My ability to bounce back from setbacks and mistakes has solidified throughout my journey. One of the cornerstone experiences of my personal development occurred during high school. My determination led to me my graduating as valedictorian of my class, while balancing three varsity sports and several extracurricular activities. In addition, I worked on weekends to help support my family financially. This persistence resulted in scholarship awards that made higher education a possibility.
*Click* *Clack* *Clack.* The sound of controllers fills my ears. The only expression I could see on every player’s face was determination. The desire to prove themselves burned brightly. I turn to meet the box of color that displayed the game I love to play. I thought to myself, “Did I practice enough? How should I play this out? I absolutely have to win!” As these thoughts raced through my mind, I give my opponent a good luck, and press start. “3, 2, 1, Go!” Suddenly, the fictional characters displayed come to life and all of my concentration switches to this game. Determination takes control over me, and the only word I can think of is “Win.” Gaming is a passion that I have had ever since I was young. The competitiveness of it is what
Many people show perseverance, including me. I showed perseverance when I failed a quiz and I knew to get my grade up I had to work harder and study more. I knew if my parents found out that I failed a quiz they would yell at me and would be disappointed on me for getting a bad grade on a quiz because I didn’t study. This factor contributes me to work harder, I learned that I need to work harder to succeed, like Salva, how he showed perseverance by looking for his family.
There’s an event in everyone's life that changes you, whether it be a simple hello or a death in the family. Tragically, mine begins with my mother marrying her second husband. The lessons I learned from this man shaped me into the person I am today. I came from a bad situation and he took my family in and and showed me that not every man is the same. Perseverance, the ability to forgive, and willingness to change your life for the better are just some of the things he taught me. If it weren’t for the little talks we had I wouldn’t be hopeful that I am, that I will turn my life around.
How do you adapt to change? Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. Change is a fundamental part of life, and eventually everyone goes through it; it is inevitable. You will stumble across times where you will be unable to control what is taking place, and you will need to be ready and willing to adjust to what life decides to throw at you. You have to be able to find the individuals that’ll support and inspire you to be the best possible version of yourself, and are genuinely blithe when you succeed. You cannot dwell on the past and what “could have been”, willing to accept what is and what will be, ready to conquer any obstacles in your way, and you’ll most likely to be more satisfied with your results. Your attitude
In my career…in my life I have been exposed to a handful of exceptional leaders that have influenced me in positive ways. For me, it took time to ascertain who those good leaders were – mostly because of my tendency to perform long and drawn-out analysis of their traits before forming a conclusion - typical ‘C’ personality (DiSC). The person that has always been at
One generation can learn many things from another. For instance, they can learn to persevere, have faith. And be generous.
In today’s society, people like to believe they are different or unique; however, we all share the same qualities as far as our weaknesses and strengths go. While one group’s greatest strength might be forgiveness, it might be another group’s greatest weakness. It is important for people to know what their greatest weaknesses and strengths are because these qualities help define who people are. Furthermore, it is crucial for people to not only focus on their negative qualities, but to also focus on their positive qualities. Upon taking the “VIA Survey of Character Strengths,” I learned what my top five strengths are, how my weakest strength is also one of my top strengths, and how I already incorporate them into my everyday life.
Transition and change often comes in different forms, which can either be joyful, stressful or a combination of both. Sometimes people change their relationships, jobs, where they live, beliefs and even their goals in life as a result of change. That said, with transition and change comes a different type of adjustment, roles and responsibilities. As individuals we need to learn to adapt in different situations for change is inevitable. Everything about this world is changing each and every moment. Our relationships change, circumstances change, our feelings change. No one is exactly the same each moment. Everything is changing constantly. Times change and so does people.
These two characteristics go working together as (Colker) talks about perseverance as the willingness to fight for one 's beliefs whether related to children 's needs or education issues, which sometimes requires you to take risks.
In my life, I have been exposed to a challenge called change. Change can occur in many different ways and is dealt with in many different ways. I have come to the awareness that change can be the deepest of all things. I always thought that change occurred when you moved to a state or when you lost someone real close to you. Those are a challenge to change, yes, but change doesn’t have to occur over a climactic incident. It can just appear overnight when your brain winds up when it’s time to do something different. Even with friends that you used to have and know that move on. For example, most of my friends from elementary school, I don’t even talk to them anymore.
