I believe that all things are achievable as long as a person is willing to put in the effort that is needed and persevere through the inevitable difficulties. Bobby Knight once said, “Mental toughness is to physical as four is to one.” For me this is one of the universal statements ever made. Because of living in a working class household in Ohio, I have learned the importance of hard work, perseverance, and responsibility. I grew up in a working class home in a suburb of Columbus Ohio. My father worked very long and physically demanding hours to support my mother, my two brothers and myself. I remember vividly how he would come home covered in grease and dirt after building semi axles all day. I carry that as my inspiration every day …show more content…
I also have three children whom I support and a husband whom I also tend to. Consequently, in life, I figure out the best ways to help my loved ones. I went back to school and earn my GED in April of 2016 when I was 29 years old. Now I have started college to pursue my career in nursing. Hard work was my first lesson as my father had demonstrated, and understand this important in order to achieve the goals that I have in life. My father always told me to work hard with my brain and not to destroy my body in the process. I understand now what my father was talking about because hard work comes in many forms. No matter if, people are building a house or drawing up the blue prints, they are putting one hundred percent into their current task, and they are working hard. While the ability to be a hard worker is undeniably important, perseverance is the only way to achieve your maximum abilities. Perseverance is the factor that separates those that achieve their goals and those who only attempt them. I learnt this as a result from my mom and dad. I see the consequence from them as they struggled in life to pay bills and to go back to school themselves. My dad had to work a full time job and still pushed through to get his GED. While my mom worked and took care of us. They taught me to keep persevering in life to get what you need and
“Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no help at all. Dale Carnegie believed that perseverance could overcome even the harshest obstacles. Perseverance is inspired by a purpose, an unsatisfied drive to achieve a goal. During a cataclysmic event, only people with a purpose endure.
If someone wants to succeed in life and stay recognized by superiors, then he or she ought to appear hardworking. A person begins with setting goals. There are two categories, the first, “be” goals and the second, “do” goals. In other words, ask yourself, "What to be?" or "What to achieve?" Four categories of goals consist of wealth, health, relationships, and self-fulfillment which equal success. Working diligently to finish a task demonstrates how to live a successful life. Given these points, Thomas Edison, Helen Keller and Harriet Tubman, all exceptional achievers, found that prosperity undoubtedly comes along for everyone who perseveres.
The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines perseverance as the continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition. In today’s society, there are so many walls and barriers that prevent humans from achieving their dreams and goals and people begin giving up. However, great poets such as Homer and famous music groups such as Mumford and Sons have used the strife of humanity to compose works that can be used to inspire and institute hope for humanity. With perseverance, there are three key aspects, struggle, loyalty, and strength. The struggle is what allows humans to learn, grow, and better themselves, the loyalty demonstrated provides motivation for success, and the personal strength allows the person to build
Many people encounter perseverance throughout their life in certain events. Buck from the Call of the Wild, is taken from a place like home to him and thrown into a harsh environment he is not used to. Similar to that, my mom was living a normal life when suddenly she had to stay strong for the family due to her brother near death from a tragic wreck. Even though they differ, both had to adapt to the life changing experiences and stay mentally strong.
In addition, I worked on weekends to help support my family financially. This persistence resulted in scholarship awards that made higher education a possibility. Another example of my perseverance can be seen in my undergraduate grade trend. My first semester
There are lots of examples of this in the book but here is a good example from Mawi when he ran track. “That summer, I would run at least six days a week and lift weights every other day. I did it, working during the day and training at night. Again, my hard work paid big dividends … I earned all-conference honors.” (115). Mawi joined the high school track and field team. During his sophomore and junior years, Mawi only made marginal progress. He wanted to change that. Mawi knew from his father that if you work hard, you will succeed. As you can see by this quote, Mawi did as his father said and no doubt, he succeeded in getting all-conference honors. Persisting is not just in sports, however, Mawi also worked hard at school. He recalls, “I stayed up night after night, rereading the chapters and reviewing my notes. I would get home from sports at 6 p.m., eat, help out around the house, and study until midnight. Then I would get up at 6 a.m. and do it all over again. The hard work paid off. I often got the highest grade in the class.” (112). As you can see, Mawi also worked hard at school. Mawi took an advanced us history class. He knew that by working hard and persisting, he could get the highest grade in the class. Mawi spent 6 hours studying and reviewing his work. He was committed to earning the highest grade in his class and his hard work paid off. Working hard and persisting is a valuable lesson to learn because it produces positive results. Also, it does not matter whether you are running track or studying for a test, if you work hard at anything and set your mind to it, you will achieve your
In life one can achieve anything as long as the endeavor undertaken is approached with determination and perseverance. There have been countless testimonies to that effect and my personal experience is living proof of the veracity of that statement.
*Click* *Clack* *Clack.* The sound of controllers fills my ears. The only expression I could see on every player’s face was determination. The desire to prove themselves burned brightly. I turn to meet the box of color that displayed the game I love to play. I thought to myself, “Did I practice enough? How should I play this out? I absolutely have to win!” As these thoughts raced through my mind, I give my opponent a good luck, and press start. “3, 2, 1, Go!” Suddenly, the fictional characters displayed come to life and all of my concentration switches to this game. Determination takes control over me, and the only word I can think of is “Win.” Gaming is a passion that I have had ever since I was young. The competitiveness of it is what
been the same way. My mom and dad taught me since I was a child was to work hard and never give up
Many people show perseverance, including me. I showed perseverance when I failed a quiz and I knew to get my grade up I had to work harder and study more. I knew if my parents found out that I failed a quiz they would yell at me and would be disappointed on me for getting a bad grade on a quiz because I didn’t study. This factor contributes me to work harder, I learned that I need to work harder to succeed, like Salva, how he showed perseverance by looking for his family.
It all started with my track coach telling me i needed to work harder and that has driven me to work harder for longer than just one track season. Hard work is something that you either have or don't have you can't be “semi hard working” you either work hard or you're lazy. I'm happy I have that trait in my life I hope it stays with me the rest of my life cause hard work beats talent when talent doesn't show up. In the end if you put the work in great things will happen and it will pay
I believe in working hard for what you want. You have to work for something if you really want to achieve it. Hardworking came to mind because when I asked what my philosophy was, I said it was working hard. I believe in this because for me it’s true, and it is true for many others. I think everyone needs to at least try to get an education. Not everyone can get an education, but you can still try.
The quality of unimaginable success is determined by grit. Despite confronting difficult life circumstances that delay the process individuals who are passionate, intelligent, and dedicated to one’s own success will continue maintaining consistency throughout their journey. Success is measured by an individuals’ commitment to effectively work hard towards life-changing goals. In the journal article “Grit: Perseverance and Passion for Long-term Goals,” Angela L. Duckworth conducts several studies in order to convey human’s capacity for higher achievements while still enduring challenges and failure. Although Duckworth’s research has proven that individuals who are less gritty tend to shift trajectory, I believe working hard and keeping “stamina” is essentially the key to achieving your goals (1088).
I believe that hard work is the real treasure of a person because without hard work we cannot achieve our dreams and goals in life. No one can achieve success without doing hard work.
