Mixed Martial Arts is the most misunderstood, safest, and popular full contact sport in the
present day. Since 1998, there have been over 70 boxing related deaths, while in sanctioned MMA
events there have only been two! MMA has been around for centuries and it was not widely known
until early 1990s with the introduction of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The UFC at first was
considered violent, barbaric, and criticized by Senator John McCain, calling it, “human cockfighting,”
but in a 2007 interview with ESPN, he softened his stance and said,“Although it's not my favorite
sport, the UFC is making progress of cleaning up the sport from what it used to be.”(Smith 1).
Visually, MMA looks very barbaric and dangerous but MMA is one of the safest sports and should be
recognized as such.
First of all, mixed martial artists have been named as “brainless violence junkies” as critics have
put it. But in many interviews with fighters, they are actually the most respectable, educated, polite,
and friendliest people one could ever meet. All of whom are just normal people trying to support their
families and love doing their jobs as professional fighters. Many MMA critics do not see how MMA
has helped people get off the streets and away from trouble. Court McGee, winner of The Ultimate
Fighter season 11 finale(reality show), in a post-fight interview in tears said, “I dedicate this fight to
anybody that struggled. If you came from where I came from to where I am today, you would have
been the same way. My mom and dad taught me since I was a child was to work hard and never give up
on your dreams, that's what I did.”(Morgan 1). Court McGee is an example of how MMA has helped

Yes they might get paid handsomely but the lifelong damages it causes to the boxers are overwhelming. Life expectancy goes down even more when it comes to boxing because boxers have no head protection so if they get hit in the head it will cause severe
Jack Dempsey was best known for his intriguing knockouts and his fists of steel (“Biography”). In his fight against Jess Willard, former champion, Dempsey knocked him down seven times within three minutes (Smith). This was the boxing match that began Dempsey’s reign as heavy weight champion of the world (Hadden 161). After the fight he earned the nick na...
With that being said, we begin to notice the comparison between both dogfighting and football. This was shown by using a system called “HITS, in which six sensors are placed inside the helmet of every player on the field, measuring the force and location of every blow he receives to the head” (Gladwell 56). The HITS system helped to conclude that practice can be just as dangerous as the games. With this being said, football is an overall reckless style of play that can continually cause brain injury. Not just football but both of these high intensity sports are viewed as damaging to one 's body both physically and mentally. Because of this, if people consider dogfighting to be unjust, illegal, and abusive then they should believe football to have the same damaging effects. Unfortunately, there is such a high demand for football, because of all the money it brings. Because of this, scientist and doctors will ignore the realistic facts and continue to allow people to participate in this
James Braddock took his father’s lessons to heart when he practiced fighting in the old schoolyard before he reached his teenage years. He practiced for several years to be an amateur fighter. When Braddock first started boxing he avoided professional competitions for two years. Instead, they froze the title, which means Braddock earned money touring the country giving public appearances and boxing exhibitions. In 1926, he entered the professional boxing circuit in the light heavyweight division.
However, the mainstream media continually refuses to recognize professional wrestling for its true entertainment value and in the process, marks the very business that we so vehemently suppor...
Thus, whether or not the case for legal prohibition is determinative, many reasons have been given for moral concern about boxing. It is perfectly appropriate for those who share such moral concerns to refuse to support boxing, to urge others to refrain from supporting it, and to advocate strong reforms in the practice of boxing. Wrestling is more than just a sport; it is a way of life. And for those who enjoy its opportunities, it is something that takes the mind off of all of life’s troubling times, and puts one man against another to get their hand raised. Competition makes everything evolve, and there is no other sport that epitomizes what competition truly is. Wrestling spans the entire globe, and although it incorporates several different styles and many National and World events, remains overlooked by most.
Both conditional and unconditional logistic regression models were used to assess risk factors for injury. Accord to the “Southern Medical Journal’s Result; overall incidence rate of injury was 17.1 per 100 boxer-matches, or 3.4 per 100 boxer-rounds.” (Lipsey) The Southern Medical Journal’s also reports that facial laceration accounted for 51% of all injuries, followed by hand injury (17%), eye injury (14%). and nose injury (5%). What if your success counted on your fighting skills and dedication? That is the case in the new reality show, “The Ultimate Fighter”. It is based on one of the oldest theories, survival of the fittest. Survival of the fittest is how a lot of American culture is run. This T.V. show portrays American culture by using the survival of the fittest concept.

Boxing Should Not be Banned In recent years, there have been many campaigns to try and have boxing
I first stared down my opponent as I walked to the center of the mat. I glanced at him I got the feeling that I was probably stronger than him so I knew I would need to make the first move and go strong in the beginning. We got to the center of the mat and the referee gave the signal to shake hands and at that moment I knew I was ready. I isolated my mind from who was around me and only saw my opponent in front of me. I started getting angry in my mind and thought to myself “It's either going to be him or me who we be victorious.”. As we shook each others hand, I squeezed my hand as hard as I could and can feel that he did too. The whistle blew, our first instinct was to lock arms and get a feel for each other and test our
As the fighter's face drips with blood, he continues to push forward and engage his opponent. At this point in time, the fighter's body and mind are telling him to give up. Most people give in to this feeling because they do not know what their body can actually do. However, a true athlete knows how to keep on fighting and ignore what his body and mind are ordering. Although there is much bloodshed, mixed martial arts is not a barbaric death match, but a sport because there are many techniques and rules that a fighter must master and follow in order to ensure safety to himself and his opponent.
