DECISION MAKING GRID The success of group decision making depends on the people who are engaged in the process of decision making. The decision makers come across a lot of problems which requires different types of decision making processes. ORIENTATION OF THE GRID The two dimensions of the managerial grid are at right angles to each other. The horizontal axis of the grid represents concern for adequacy of decision experienced by the decision makers. The vertical axis represents concern for commitment of others which is experienced by individuals when working on a group decision making task. Each axis is scaled from 1 to 9. It reflects the degree of concern that is possessed by the individual. The value 1 denotes minimal concern. The value 9 denotes maximum concern. SELF SUFFICIENT DECISION MAKING The lower right end of the grid represents self-sufficient decision making style. The position is 9/1. This decision making style has a maximum concern for decision adequacy. It has a minimal concern for commitment of people. This style assumes that group is not an adequate place to take decisions and that group decisions always lead to creating more problems rather than solving them. Decision makers with self-sufficient style are confident decision makers. They are very much satisfied with their own assessment off the problem. It has been noted from the text that our perception influences the thinking and decisions we make. It shows that choices differ because of the different understanding that individual have. In order to evaluate my role within the group, it is important to identify what makes a group. A group must firstly consist of more than three members, “Two members have personal relationships; with three or more there is a change in quality” of the personal relationship. (Bion 1961, p26) The group must have a common purpose or a goal in order to succeed. Having now completed my group work task, I can look back and reflect upon the process that my group went through to get to the presentation end point.

As a result, these papers will first compare and contrast the problem identification and formulation styles in the team members’ organizations. Then the most favorable aspects of each style will be discussed to describe a process by which a problem can be identified and described to stakeholders in a manner that is sensitive to their perspective.
During this paper I will explain my values, decision making style, personality type, and goals. Values play a big role in each individual’s daily lives from the day they was a small child to the day they pass away. Although, some people’s values differ does not mean they are less important. A person’s personality will explain how they interact with others, and their strengths and weaknesses. Using deciding styles can help you when making decisions. Also, by setting goals we are more likely to achieve them. Making a goal choosing SMART, we can determine the Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound to develop a reasonable goal.

The journey of my decision analysis learning process has been a roller coaster ride. While I enjoyed reading, understanding and learning about the various methodology and aspects of decision analysis, I also find myself stressed, frustrated and ready to give up. For me, the concept about what is decision analysis, the utility of decision analysis, and the topics on decision bias, ethics, complexity and controversy of decision analysis make sense to me as I understood what they are and how they can impact a decision making process. Quantitatively, while I enjoy experimenting and learning the R, Rattle and Excel Decision Tree Plan, statistically, I am frustrated as I am unable to come up with the correct answers when it comes to the quantitative models and calculations such as the probability matrices, binomials, conditional probability, and Markov modeling. Learning the functionalities and seeing an outcome from the R software and knowing what an excel can do to a set of data is intriguing yet exciting to me,
Working in groups is challenging at times. Other times it is very rewarding. We are so focused on life that we do not take time to reflect on things as much as we should. Being in a Groups class has opened my eyes to a whole new world. I have begun to question, explore, and even understand how things work. I even get how they work sometimes. Not only is there a process involved in making individual decisions, process is involved in group decisions as well. This paper attempts give insight into my reflection of my group decision process.
