Every day we come across individuals with a different skin color different look and different beliefs. People come from all types of ethnic background, whether if their ethnicity is African American, White American, Indian, Asian, or Hispanics each ethnicity value their own experiences and perceptions that has influenced their decisions that they have made in life. Cultural is usually taught and developed from birth up until our early adult years and sometimes we still learn something new about our cultural when we are older as well. Throughout this paper I will uncover and explore the awareness and views I have within in my culture and conclude by stating how it can make practicing counseling a challenge in certain aspects.
Culture is the substance of who we essentially are in life. It identifies the kind of values and practices that are learned from church, home and even the surrounding community. In addition to these learned beliefs and values, we also learn from music, food, health remedies, and sports which symbolizes something unique in a culture. Furthermore, our culture is the key to how we view and perceive the world as well. A lot of times we don’t realize that our culture can be subsequently be used as a tool to communicate and socialize with others. In recent, it has been brought to my understanding that people determine who are by examining which side of the city you come from. Having an awareness of one’s own culture gives an individual sense of pride and understanding of their life.

Cultural diversity is having a heart and a mind that acknowledges and accepts people values and beliefs. Us humans/people all aspire to many of the same things such as security, well-being, acceptance, individualism, esteem, and some form of equity, whether it's physical, spiritual, emotional or same rights.
Cultural diversity, or multiculturalism, is based on the idea that cultural identities should not be ignored, but rather maintained and valued. The foundation of this belief is that every culture and race has made a significant contribution to American history one way or another. The cultural diversity of the United States is beyond belief, as many different ethnic and cultural groups have contributed or shaped the social, economic and cultural values of our society.
