Culture is passed down from one generation to the next generation. It is a societies beliefs and customs and the core values that unite people together. Culture is learned from past generations. It is how we live our day to day lives. Culture is not the same for everyone. Some cultures are very religious, while others are not. Some cultures live lavish lives, while others get by with the bare necessities. It is the food we eat, the clothes we wear, our family traditions and beliefs.

These people judge other groups based on their language, the food they eat, the clothes they wear, the religion they believe, and the list goes on. Ethnocentrism is very similar to Egocentrism, which is when a person has a very high opinion of themselves and believes they are better than others. America can be a very ethnocentric country in regards that some people view our values and practices as superior to other cultures. For example: a person views the elderly as fragile or useless, or when we think older people are bad drivers and therefore they should not be allowed to drive. Younger people are discriminated against as well. They are seen as being lazy, irresponsible, and immature. Ageism makes people feel worthless.
Discrimination is when an individual or group is judged negatively based on their physical characteristics, the color of their skin, the way they dress, their language, customs, etc. There are other types of discrimination as well. Some elderly people face discrimination, people with disabilities, religious groups, and gender discrimination.
Human Rights are basic rights and freedoms that belong to every person in the world. It means we have the right to live freely, to vote in elections, to get an education, we have freedom of speech, religious rights, a right to own property, and to the right to be treated as an equal. Our human rights are protected by the law.
Social Justice is belief that all individuals deserves equal economic, political, and social rights and opportunities. These are examples of Social Justice: Gay rights, women’s rights, and environmental rights. Social justice also allows individuals access to medical care, education, and public
