Provide this new group of CIS students with any advice you wish you would have had when you started this class. What would have helped you to start stronger than you may have? What advice would you liked to have had early in the semester? One advice I wish I have had when I started this class was to ask questions when I did not understand something. I wish I have asked more questions during class, because I spend a lot of time on me own trying to understand the topic by reading the textbook. If I had done this earlier I would have understand the topic so much better, hearing Ms. Fellows explain it to me would be so much better from reading the textbook. One advice I would liked to have early in the semester was do not wait till last minute …show more content…
How is that helpful or challenging to your learning style?
The classroom environment in my CISAG class was a safe environment. My classmates were very friendly and caring, it was easy to talk to anyone in the class. This environment was helpful because no one in the class was there to judge someone’s view, we could express our different opinions on different topics and my classmate respect everyone's opinions. In addition, we all have our own views on certain issue and I enjoy hearing where my classmates stand on issues that is happening in the world right now.
What will the instructor of CISAG expect out of

Revising for this of exams will probably involve learning large amounts of information. When organising your notes, pay particular attention to fundamental terms and concepts that describe important events or features, or how it relate ideas together. Start as early as possible so that you can keep revisiting the information you need to learn. Additionally, Ms. Fellows hands out practice questions before the exam. It is important to understand what the question is asking and making sure you are answering the question. If the question is asking you to explain something, make sure you provide an example to support your reasoning. This section is a lot more difficult and you will need to be very thoughtful when answering the questions. However, on this portion of the test you may earn partial credit if you half answered the
The biggest lesson I learn during this class is time management. I have a 9 month old baby and he allows wants my attention. I had to rely on a family member to take care of him while I get a few hours to read the textbook and do the writing assignments. I had to truly focus on my work and not go to social sites because I barely had time to do so.
Carol Gerber Allred (Allred, 2008) describes strategies for improving classroom climate related to learning for the students, while enforcing a set of classroom expectations, informing students of their positive actions, infusing intrinsic motivation, encouraging positive behavior, connecting with students’ families and community, and being positive yourself (Allred, 2008). These strategies align with the attributes described in indicator 1a to foster respect for diversity, establish rapport, promote risk-taking and establish high
During my first semester of college, I felt like this course overshadowed all the others. I faced many challenges, gained better habits, and even increased the value of myself as a scholar. Not only did my professor provide her students with the course material she built a confidence inside of us that will allow us to be able to tackle any task, especially pertaining to any written compositions. The things that I have learned from this course could and will be applied to any and everything I do from here on out, whether that writing an essay or even taking a test. Again, the journey was long, but I will be forever grateful for the things that I, and all of my peers have gained from this
Well lets see, “ how will I apply the tips I have learned in this week's assignment?” (unit 1 homework) There is a lot of tips and information in the paper I just read. It is all very good information and helpful, I know it will come in handy not only in this assignment but in all my work throughout this program. I learned the different ways people learn and think and how to work at being those kinds of thinkers and apply that to the papers I write. There is a lot of information out there, knowing where to look is very important and knowing how to incorporate your research is a must. Knowing your subject in and out and the proper way to do so is also important, to write a well informed paper. What I have read will help me with that also.
I have learned some effective advice from several experts on learning. I read from Stephen Covey about The 7 habits of highly successful people, helping me realize that through my classes I am slowly building a foundation for my future. I found out after the first encounter with Ms.Dubbe that college could be a venture. I never really knew what the rabbit theory was until she referred me to Yvonne Thornton, The Ditchdigger 's Daughter. Simply finding the best and fastest person, imitate, and eventually I will be moving at the pace of the so-called rabbit and when that happens, I move to the next rabbit.
The most important hurdle to overcome in the course was mainly myself and my old writing habits. Adjusting to the course is a goal that one needs to overcome post-haste, the more time it takes one to adjust, the worse your grade will be. A critical aspect of adjusting is the ability to change the writing requirements based on what class one is in. By figuring out the appropriate text to use in each class, it would help one adjust to the course faster. In my history class, writing is mainly facts piled on other facts with no set of techniques, while writing class involves a lot more critical thinking. I extremely enjoyed this course because I found that I can express my own personal views while maintaining the foundation of my papers.
Social division, whether it is caused by economic, cultural, or social factors, is an ongoing and controversial issue that creates a hierarchy called “class” in society. 21st century Britain is not renowned for being a nation that is fair and equal, but rather as a nation that is still widely obsessed with class. In this context, I am defining class as a form of social stratification and inequality that categorizes people into different rankings, formed on a basis of prestige and wealth. This essay will firstly argue the existence of class in contemporary Britain by using a historical perspective from popular philosophers such as Karl Marx. Secondly, it will reveal a public survey of social class and explain the indicators of class that are present in British education, sports, accent, and politics. Overall, these indicators would verify the statement that says, “Class is still a relevant factor in 21st century Britain”.
Ways to develop a cohesive academic environment. In the first step of making a student feel comfortable in my classroom no matter their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, or sexuality, I would first make sure I get to know my students and their backgrounds. I will then create strong relationships and bonds which each of my students so that they feel welcomed, comfortable, and accepted in my classroom. It is important for teachers to encourage students that everyone is the same and still human no matter their race, gender, religion, and etc. I will always make sure that my students are interacting which each other by doing group work and having discussion with one another so they can be united as one. I want my students to be
From this chapter I have learned a lot about myself and how to study. Before I never really understood the different ways I studied, I just knew what seemed to work. I now understand why those techniques were successful. Now that I am aware I am a mostly a visual learner, have an integrated brain, and have bodily-kinesthetic and logical-mathematical intelligence, I look forward to implementing the newly learned studying techniques with the old, making my college experience as successful as possible.
The environment of the classroom is important because is a social place where children have to feel secure so they can become part of the lesson and for the lesson to succeed. The classroom is organized and the students are in their individual desks respectfully listening to the teachers lecture and following along. The students look
Out of everything that we 've learned this quarter, goal setting was something that stood out to me. There are a few times where I set a goal in my head but end up never achieving them, wether it was something very simple or more of a long term goal. A technique that stood out to me in our notes is, writing down your goals. I don 't I 've ever written down a single goal that I 've had. In class and in our notes we talked about how it is important to write down your goals and how you cannot just write the general idea of your goal, but how you need to be very specific in what it is you want to achieve. I think that in college it 's very important to set long, mid, and short term goals because somedays will be harder than others and you need
Was there information or insights that helped you that you didn’t expect to learn at the outset of the course?
The quality of the classroom setting is one characteristic of school environment that promotes positive outcomes for students. The climate of the classroom is seen as a major determinant of the behaviour and learning of students. It contributes to the academic success of students and predicts the degree to which they participate in learning, how consistently they attend school, how attentive they are in class, how carefully they complete assignment and how committed they are to staying in school and doing well (Doll, 2014). The classroom is accepting, caring, respectful, the atmosphere is honest and the teacher is positive, actively motivate students to learn, expect that students will succeed in school and in life and use effective tea...
To someone that hasn’t taken this class, I would tell them that learning is a lifelong thing that you have to be proactive in. You have to be purposeful and intentional and aware of how you’re completing or learning something. As an adult, learning is not the same as it was in the second grade. You need to know how you think, and process, become aware of it, and use your strengths and weaknesses to your advantage, and learn how to improve your weaknesses to be able to become beneficial to you. Learning is something that has to be conscious.
The learning environment connects the classroom to the community through a democratic approach. This community based learning brings the world into the classroom so students can implement social change and challenge social inequalities. The curriculum focuses on student experience and taking social action on real problems such as hunger, violence, and discrimination. It is important to instruct students to explore in group settings so they can work together to analyze and develop theories that can help each other and make a real different in the world. As a future educator, it is important to not only to teach my students the issues in our world, but how we can work together to find
