This essay will critically discuss how interprofessional communication can impact on service user’s safety and the quality of care. As leaning disability student nurse’s interprofessional communication is important for our learning and our professional development. As we have experienced on placement working with different professionals and communicating with them to deliver quality care for service users.

As a result of this, interprofessional communication is important if nurses and other professionals are to deliver quality care and meet the health needs of the service user. Goodman and Clemow (2010) suggest that nurses must communicate safely and effectively with service users, professionals and other service provider using respect, care, compassion and dignity.
In the same way Burnard and Gill (2014), suggest that effective communication is significant in the delivery of quality nursing care. Another reason why interprofessional communication is important is that, people with a learning disability have complex health need which requires collaborative working between professionals and collaborative working cannot function well without interprofessional communication (Lacey & Oyvry, …show more content…

The United Kingdom National Health Service (NHS, 2012) lunched the 6 Cs of nursing to promote interprofessional communication in the National Health Service. However, Beach and Oates (2014) suggest that content such the medical terms used by other professional may limit the interprofessional communication. Standing (2010) suggests that the interprofessional care promote quality care and person centre care because different professionals communicate together to make the best clinical judgement for the service users this give a positive impact on the health and well-being of the service user. On the contrary, Beach and Oates (2014) suggest that the legislation and information governance may be a challenge in interprofessional communication and understanding the content and handling of information on service user
