For this assignment Amy and I chose cosmetics and toiletries. A cosmetic is a preparation or substance that is used to alter certain parts of the human body it can change the odours or appearance of the body, clean it or protect it. Some of the items in this industry that are included in the description of the cosmetics and toiletries industry are hair care products, makeup, bath, shower and skin care products, fragrances, male grooming products, oral hygiene products, female sanitary items, deodorant and moisturizer and other cream. After several attempts at researching where cosmetics are produced and manufactured, we found that is very rare for most makeup and toiletry brands to be made in Australia after calling and enquiring to many different companies we found that most products are shipped from America or the UK. However, we did find that Procter and Gamble produces Billie goat soap in Australia and all of Lush’ products are manufactured in Canterbury in Sydney.
Amy: Australia exports cosmetics and toiletries to Japan and Hong Kong. Australia exports cosmetics to these countries mainly because these Asian countries rely on Australia due to the good quality and excellent reputation of our products. These countries rely heavily on Australia for a lot of their cosmetic and beauty needs because Australia’s flora contains many important botanical ingredients including antioxidants and many useful vitamins and minerals, including tea tree and eucalyptus oils.
With no local manufacturing of cosmetics and toiletries, Hong Kong’s beauty product needs are met entirely by international exports. Hong Kong’s consumers are becoming more aware of harsh chemicals being used in cosmetics and toiletries and the demand for natural and organi...

Over the past 5 years this industry has grown in sophistication and professionalism because we are now manufacturing most of our products using organic compound synthesis techniques which are producing more products quickly and products of a higher quality.
Abby: There are many regulations related to exporting cosmetics which include making sure the product is not prohibited to wherever it is going, making sure authorities know what it is and when it is coming and making sure not to brake any EU rules. The specific tariffs that apply to countries like Hong Kong and Japan such as not all health supplements need to be registered and the supplement is recommended to have the used by date on the outside of the packaging and be in English and/or Chinese for Hong Kong and all in Japanese for when we exporting to them.
