Do you and your parents ever have different perspectives on situations? Well, in the stories Confetti Girl and Tortilla Sun, the main characters have different point of views on situations than their parents. The difference in perspective creates tension between them. In both stories, the families went through a loss of a parent, now they are with only one; in addition, decisions are very hard to make. As a result of having different perspectives, they start to argue with one another, creating a bigger issue.

Izzy reacts in an unexpected way when her mother explains that she will be visiting Costa Rica. This emotionally affects her in many ways. She becomes sad, but expresses it as anger. Her mom doesn't understand the emotions she's feeling that she won't be able to see her mom for the whole summer. Meanwhile, her mom sees it as a great opportunity. When Izzy’s mom introduces the idea of her moving in with her grandma for the summer, which she hasn’t seen in six years, she becomes furious. "And what am I going to do for two whole months with someone I haven't seen since I was six? That was half my life ago. She's a stranger!"(24). This shows that the main character is very angry to be living without her mom. On the other hand, her mom thinks it is the best idea for her daughter will be able to reunite with her grandmother. "'Oh, Izzy. She's hardly a stranger. She's family. I already have your ticket. You leave Monday’”(25). This quote reveals that Izzy's mom cares more about her research than her daughters opinions. Her mom doesn't realize that Izzy doesn't want to leave her mom just like her her father left her when he died. The mom’s actions cause Izzy to be hopeless and
