What leadership style is more effective to get employees to be more efficiently. Are task-oriented leaders better in a workplace or is a people-oriented better in a workplace. A study is going to be conducted to understand how employees react to each of these leadership styles. Comparing and contrasting task- and people-oriented leaderships, to recognize which of the categories works best.
INTRODUCTION
There are several different leadership techniques, the different styles vary depending on what type of characteristics the person has. The most common leadership styles are people-oriented and task-oriented leadership. Each technique has its advantages as well as disadvantages with more disadvantages than the other. Research will be conducted to figure out which of those two techniques are most effective in a workplace. Which leadership technique shows the most success?

Task-oriented leaders can be very autocratic as their primary focus is to get the most immediate task completed. The leader is concerned only with task accomplishment therefore the team suffers through lack of motivation and retention. (Russell, 2011) Sometimes it can be stressful for the employee with multiple tasks to do with deadlines coming up. The weaknesses of the task-oriented style include a fear of breaking the rules among employees, which may lead to a lack of creativity, low morale and high turnover. Employees who are afraid to break rules may not take any risks, which means that innovation may suffer. You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink is a proverb I have heard since I was young. Leadership is the skill of influencing people to accomplish goals (Huber, 2014). In today’s world with policy and technological changes the leaders must use their leadership skills to not only get the horse to the water, have him drink, but also do it with a smile an invite others to join him. Leaders use a variety of styles to accomplish their goals. I will discuss the leadership style that I utilize most often, how my style relates to leadership theories and the work type environment it is most useful in.
Leadership style is a behavioral model that leaders use it to interact with followers. Leadership is a combination of providing direction, making decision, motivating sub-workers and achieving goals (Fertman & Liden 1999). My style of leadership according to the quiz by Cherry (n.d.) is participative leadership which is a type of leadership that engages the members of the team to participate in decision making and problem solving while the leader makes the final judgment in the deliberation process. This style of leadership allows members who are experts in their fields provide input to reach a more effective and accurate decision. This fits exactly into my leadership style. I always believed that in every aspect there is a greater or lesser person than you are, so, why not focus on the best in others and tap on their expertise in knowledge or skill to get the best results.

Traditionally, effective leadership styles were thought of a one size fits all, leaders picked one approach and used it all situations. In today’s world, successful leaders recognize the style of leadership is relative to given situation, based on analyzing the employees and the organization. After completing the “Leadership Style Questionnaire” and analyzing my results, I have learned what my preferred leadership style is and how that influences how I lead and may be perceived from members of the group. From the results attained from the questionnaire, my preferred style of leadership is directing. This type of leadership style is best for individuals who have a low competency and high commitment level. These types of leaders are highly focused on tasks and less focused on relationships. They make decisions without consulting with the group and communicate without regarding the group’s concerns or suggestions. This type of leader also supervises the followers intently. They are very successful in creating objectives for each follower and the group as a whole to guide the group in reaching a certain goal.
Leadership is the glue that binds any business together, identifying and understanding your type of leadership style can ultimately aid you in becoming a better leader in your professional career. A successful business cannot function without leadership therefore this is a crucial aspect of internal employee development for businesses striving to stay relevant in a crowded marketplace. In addition to recognizing your leadership style every leader needs to look to them and identify what type of personality they have. By becoming an informed business leader you will gain trust and respect of your team to guide them into the future and maximizing potential growth. Throughout this paper I will identify my leadership style and also personality type and how it has affected my personal career growth. Identifying these conclusions is extremely important in crafting company culture.
This paper has summarized some prominent studies about leadership styles. Before understanding the styles which I may choose to practice, extensive studies on various leadership theories and approaches have been carried out. After conducting this research paper, I believe that there is no one-size-fits-all style for leadership. Lewin’s Model and Belbin’s Team Role Model have extended my knowledge and they have encouraged me to learn to assume different roles or styles in different possible situations. Therefore, I can get acquainted more easily to carrying out teamwork in my future job.

Women do have different leadership styles from men. A task-oriented leader is someone that can focus on a number of tasks while focusing on the things necessary to achieve as well as complete the task. They are not concerned with the people at the place of employment, they are more focused on the things that need to be completed. They want to help others get things completed, solved, and work things out with everyone. This is why many people prefer working with them because they honestly care about others and their feelings.
