When we are in an interactional situation, we are bound to communicate, whether or not we intend to. How the receiver perceives the message we send is left solely up to them, regardless of how much we try to effectively communicate. The most unfavorable aspect of communication is that once any type of information is conveyed, it cannot be undone or taken back. Due to communication 's unavoidable, exclusive and permanent nature, it can be defined by three main axioms, namely inevitability, unrepeatability and irreversibility. Every communication is individual and exclusive. All communication is unique, as it cannot be duplicated. You cannot reenact any communication as your reenactment cannot be accurate or exactly the same as the original behavior and communication. You would essentially be recreating the situation to a great extent as your mindset, attitudes and overall behavior would not be the same as they were in the initial situation. Even if you say the same words or reenact the initial behavior, it will not be the same as in the actual setting, because of variances in tone of voice, facial expressions, location, movement and other contributing factors. Fundamentally, trying to repeat any type of communication is actually repeating the mere memory of the original communication. Additionally, communication is unrepeatable as once something is said, it cannot be repeated to alter initial impressions. Unfortunately, I 've learned this the hard way, after saying something I did not mean. When trying to repeat what I had initially communicated to the receiver, who was my boyfriend, the response I received was, “No. That is not what you just said.” In spite of the fact that I attempted to repeat what I initially said to alter the impression that was made with my original statement, I couldn 't do so, because what was said was already conveyed and cannot be changed, even by …show more content…
Once information is conveyed to a receiver, that information is permanently sent. Messages cannot be uncommunicated. The messages we send on a daily basis are irretrievable. We cannot reverse the act of communicating, although we may attempt to minimize the results of the sent message. Nevertheless, this does not undo the act of communicating information. Once a message has been sent, it cannot be taken back. I 've made numerous statements when upset and have always regretted it afterwards. Unfortunately, I cannot “unsay” anything I 've said, as they are everlasting and cannot be erased. I 've said many hurtful things to my boyfriend in times of conflict and sad to say, I cannot undo or alter the damage that my words have caused. Regardless of what I say to try to change the impressions my words left on him, I cannot take what I 've said back. You cannot take anything back that you 've communicated, as it is everlasting. Miscommunication is a struggle that lives within the world everyday. Being able to understand what another person is trying to convey is an essential part of the way humans interact with one another. When a message is not translated correctly from person to person conflict arises and heated battles rage within a relationship; whether it is a mother and daughter, or two quarreling lovers, or strangers upon the street. All humans are created differently, with diverse upbringings, perspectives, and mindsets. Particular forms of communications may mean different things to various people. When talking about the concept of miscommunications, one must also address the concept of communication itself.

Communication involves the exchange of messages and is a process which all individuals participate in. Whether it is through spoken word, written word, non-verbal means or even silence, messages are constantly being exchanged between individuals or groups of people (Bach & Grant 2009). All behaviour has a message and communication is a process which individuals cannot avoid being involved with (Ellis et al 1995).
Throughout the semester, we have studied numerous communication theories. Their purpose is to help understand exactly what happens when we interact with others. We might not necessarily agree with all of the theories, but the idea is to develop tools to evaluate situations we may encounter. Often, when the theories are explained in the readings or lecture, it is beneficial to apply the concepts to a "real life" situation. Using this approach, I will use a situation that many of us have faced, or will face, and analyze it according to a particular communication theory.
Communication is the process of conveying information to each another using words, actions, or by writing the information down to be read by another person. Communication is something that most people do at some point each day, and is an important part of life especially in a working environment. “The concept of communication is an essential part of every profession, and it is required to foster and maintain healthy relationships”( Jasmine, 2009, para. 1).
Theories of Communications, is a course that allowed me to further gain a far better perspective and has also broadened my understanding and knowledge of some of the major theories. I appreciate the fact, that during the course of the semester, this class really did an admirable job introducing me to a variety of well known and widely studied theories in the communication feild. One of the biggest things I took out of this class, was how the class impled me to learn how to apply some of the theories to my life in a practical way through some of the class activities, readings, group work, presentations, and assignments. In the following paper, there will be three main things I will be covering. I will start off by introducing all members of my family, and describing a little bit about them individually. I will then be talking about the five theories I selected that I can applyto myself and my family. I will then describe each of the five theories, give an example of my own families experiance that aplies to the theories, and give an analysis of the experiance using the theory. And lastly, I will share with you my conclucion, which will conclude basically all of the things that I learned through writing this paper.
In interpersonal communication there are many theories that are similar yet different in many ways. The theories can be combined to describe people and how those people interact and communicate with each other. Many of these theories help explain how people in society form impressions of others, how they maintain these impressions, why people interact with certain people in society, and how people will use these impressions that they have formed later on in life. These theories also help people to better understand themselves, to better understand interpersonal communication, and to better understand people in general. There are two theories in interpersonal communication that, despite their differences, can go hand in hand. The first is interaction adaptation theory and the second is emotional contagion theory. These two theories’ similarities and differences and their relevance to my everyday life will be discussed in this paper. These two theories are very important in understanding how people interact with others and why people do the things they do sometimes.
The act of communication is an everyday an act a person does without considering their behavior. Friend and Cook (2013) interpret the concept of communication and how to understand an act that is done without placing any thought into the everyday behavior. They explain how sender and receive might receive or give information to one another, but unfortunately the message may not come clear and be misinterpreted. When communicating with others, the message may not become clear to the receiver for several reasons. For example, the sender did not explain the message clearly or the receiver can not comprehend the conversation due to their surrounding. Communication is essential to human life. Every aspect of our daily lives is affected by our communication with others. It can be different types such as verbal, nonverbal and written communication. It is indeed a complex process filled with countless elements, all of which play an important role. The process of communication between human beings has been studied and analyzed outwardly since the beginning of time. The term itself cannot be defined in only one particular way because communication exists in a certain context and is dependable on the communicator and the audience. Example of describing communication is as “the transmission of information, ideas, attitudes or emotions from one person or group to another (or others) primarily through symbols” and “social interaction through messages” (McQuail, 1993). Furthermore, Watson and Hill describe the process of communication as “one which begins when a message is thought up by a sender, who then encodes the message before transmitting it through a particular channel to a receiver, who in turn decodes the message with a certain effect as an outcome” (Price, 1998).The complexity of the whole process is seen through the use of verbal and nonverbal communication on a daily basis, as well as the ability to interact with other human beings on multiple levels, mentally and emotionally. We begin communicating the moment we come out of the womb and do not stop communicating until death. This essay will try to compare and contrast two different communication contexts- interpersonal and mass communication, by using relevant communication models.
