Like the master Confucius said “After being trained by a good man for seven years, the common people should be able to fight any battle” (passage 13.29, The Analects). Some teenagers believe that life should imitate high school. Adolescents think they should never have an inordinate amount of pressure foist upon them, and that deadlines are strictly an outline to go by. If something is done incorrectly the first time they can just keep doing it until it's right. However, when young adults enter 'the real world' they come to the horrific realization that their boss doesn't care how they feel, and if the deadline is missed, there can be severe consequences. High school should aim at preparing young adults for real life, rather than misleading them to believe the world will continue to revolve around them.
In the recent advancements of modern communication and technology, people have also gained the ability to spread their own thoughts and unsourced information to a larger audience quicker than ever before. Accordingly, this has allowed people to share syndicate information without any research or backing and with no fear of being silenced or reprimanded. 447). I have often seen this type of behavior in younger students and even elementary schools, the loss of focus and the struggle of completing assignments in a timely manner. The high school students can and may show the same behaviors, but mostly is the constant redirection for off task behavior. For example, I have a student who likes to disrupt class by singing, or trying to talk to his peers and completely gets off task and must be reminded to complete assignments given.
Honesty and integrity are two major core Catholic and humanist values that many students in modern times seem to lack. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, honesty is defined as "the quality of being fair and truthful." Honesty plays a huge role in our society and daily lives. Honesty is a key characteristic that makes up a person, and defines who they truly are. Usually, if a person is very honest, which according to Merriam-Webster Dictionary means, “the quality of being honest and fair.” As you can see, the definition of honesty and integrity go hand in hand. Just as Spencer Johnson tells us, “Integrity is telling myself the truth. And honesty is telling the truth to other people.” Without honesty, there is absolutely no integrity. In the past few years, many major corporations conducted tests to determine how much of the world’s population was considered, “honest.” WalletTest.com conducted an experiment in which one hundred wallets were left on the streets on purpose, filled with a good amount of cash, and a picture identification card to explicitly show who the wallet belonged to. Of those one hundred wallets, seventy four of them were returned and twenty six were not. The sample of people they used were of mixed gender, age, and race, giving a good testing sample. The results were good, showing that most people were honest, and the honest people outnumbered the dishonest people nearly three to one. Honesty and integrity does not only play a large role in daily life situations, however. Honesty and integrity play a large role in academics in different levels of expertise: Elementary, High School, and College.
At a glance, accounting might appear as a repetitive cycle of preparing and examining financial statements. However, a brief exposure to accounting has taught me how chaotic it can be for accountants. An accountant captures and represents the information of businesses. By reviewing financial operations, an accountant helps a business run efficiently. This profession can be intellectually stimulating and rewarding. After learning about accounting, I cannot help but be interested and desire to work toward a degree in accountancy. In my studies, I have learned accountants require a plethora of qualities to be successful. And to mature from a student to a professional, I must resolve to strengthen my weaknesses. There is much I must learn and achieve, but a degree in accounting is well worth the time spent.
In the 21st century, teachers experience many behavioral issues with students in the classroom and face challenges that are very difficult to resolve. School districts have different expectations about how students must behave during school and teachers have their own expectations about how students must behave in their classroom. Every educator has different classroom expectations and students must follow specific standards; therefore, the responsibility of the teacher is to discuss the standards with all students and make sure those expectations are clear. I recently took a course on cooperative discipline and found that many of my own beliefs and practices involving discipline in the classroom were validated and reinforced throughout the class. Students do choose how they will behave and the best way (maybe even the easiest way) to get them to make the right choices in the classroom is to foster a feeling of mutual respect and to give them a sense of responsibility or classroom ownership. Kids want discipline, or maybe to put it differently they want structure and predictability. And the nice thing about Linda Albert’s cooperative discipline model is that it gives the students exactly what they need. But what are our responsibilities? Linda Albert tells us that “the ultimate goal of student behavior is to fulfill a need to belong”, so it is our job to fill that need by helping the student to feel capable, connected, and able to contribute (in a positive way) to the group.
Most likely being the class pet, they take notes on everything the teacher says and are less likely to get in trouble. To insure that their grades are the best that they can be, these students will go above and beyond. In class, overachievers are the students who write down every helpful thing the teacher might say, who always have their hands raised to answer a question, and who always ask for extra credit. Student A, for example, is a straight A student, and when she isn't working on homework or studying, she is participating in or even leading different clubs, anything that looks good on a college application. On the other hand, Slackers will most likely not do anything at all, while uncivil students might only strive for the bare minimum to pass. One should be taught that being polite will help you in the long run in life. One should do the right the right task, as should’ve been taught at a young age. Following instructions should be taught at young age also, but teenagers should have this in oneself’s brain already. Doing work on time should already be in a teenagers mind to do so one won’t be in trouble or get bad grades. When one gets to the adult stage one should have everything one needs to know about life.
