My Passion for Plants I love being alone working with plants and listening to music. I never used to be this way, I never liked the quietness and having to do work but my junior year of high school changed it all. I had to take a science course to get my science credit and I sucked at science so I saw that they had plant science as a class to take so I thought it would be easy and I could take it no problem. About a month in I started to like the class, as I thought it was easy but not only was it easy, it was fun. Since I was the only one who actually liked the class I became Mr. Hicks my teacher at the time personal assistant. I would water the plants when they needed to be when he couldn’t because he was busy or had to teach and I really enjoyed doing it, it was quiet and I didn’t have to work or talk with anybody which I hated talking to people or working with them because they were annoying or never did the work properly and horsed around and I can’t stand that. …show more content…
I mean I don’t like it but if I have to it’s not as bad as it used to be where I wouldn’t even try to talk to them. I never liked plants either, I didn’t know anything about them, all I knew is that they took work and I absolutely hated doing anything that involved me doing anything but sit around and do nothing. Now I love doing work I can’t just sit around and do nothing it drives me crazy I have to do something, it doesn't matter what it is it just has to be something. I also now enjoy taking care of plants, I also like to watch them grow and it satisfies me when they’re completely grown it fills me with
The first time that he asked me to print and fax a document for him, he nearly took twice as long to go over every single button on the printer and explain a process that I had done plenty before. However, as time progressed I was able to more thoroughly demonstrate my aptitude as his assistant and he grew more lax in his instructions. I initially thought that he was somewhat arrogant because of his talking down, but I was eventually able to see his perspective on the job and admire his patience and kindness. Yet despite these challenges, this class has also been rewarding because I got to meet many new people and make new friends. Most of the students in the class immediately welcomed me into their lives and were appreciative of my work. In some cases, as soon as certain students and I were done with our homework, we would talk about politics and our lives, further strengthening our bond as compatriots. One student who I assisted asked me to help him craft his essay on a fishing trip to a
Now this is the kind of question a mother wants to hear from her children. Not 'Can I play on the interstate?' or 'If I eat this will I die?' Something, instead, wholesome and good. An activity that not only teaches, but puts fresh produce on her table.
Christmas, I love Christmas, I love shopping for presents for my loved ones, thinking about the gifts I want to give, the wrapping and arranging them under the beautiful Christmas tree. I love the planning and preparing Christmas dinner, filling the house with wonderful fragrant smells hoping everyone comes and has a good time and still talking to each other when they leave. Most of all though, I love the Christmas tree, I love the excitement as the hunt begins for the perfect tree finally when everyone is in agreement we bring it home hoping it’s not too tall too short too fat or too skinny and most important stands up straight. Somehow it always fits and always looks beautiful, I am never disappointed and my tree is always perfect and beautiful.
After quitting NJROTC my sophomore year, I had to take a health and gym class. It was both of these classes that I dreaded the most. In gym I am not a person who loves to participate, because it occasionally gets rough. I am not that athletic and disliked the fact that you had to participate to get points. Not only that, we would pay the same game for two weeks straight. I only looked forward to free time every Friday. On the other hand, unexpectedly, health class was easy. Most of the topics discussed I already knew about. The health teacher would spice up the class by having us perform skits and demonstrations. One time she brought in drunk glasses of different intensity and made use walk in a straight line. All you could see was students walking 10 inches from the actual line and some walking in curved lines. The students actually seemed like they were drunk. Another project we had to do was to perform a skit from different scenarios. Each team had to write a script and the best performance was chosen from all her classes. Even though my team’s skit didn’t win, it was still a fun experience.
When you love to do something, you want to do it every day, all the time, till you get sick of it. Even then that excitement and devotion to do it is still there. That is how I feel about art. I have a great passion for it. It is a form where I can express myself in a way words can’t.
Ewell had to get on to 1 of the boys for continuously making racist comments. She made him settle down by making him her assistant for today’s lecture over flower dissection. It seems as though Mrs. Ewell has not really found a classroom management strategy that works for this class. The students were not out of control, but if they were a little less rowdy, more could have been accomplished. She did not put much force into making the students participate. Although this is frustrating, I think it is a good decision because some days that may not be a battle worth fighting. I admire that Mrs. Ewell took the time today to do a hands-on lab with the students. I know she can get irritated with their behavior at times, but I could definitely tell they enjoyed today’s flower dissection. It gave them a chance to relate the vocabulary words they have been using to live flowers. The only thing I would do differently with the flower dissection is make sure to mention the safety precautions necessary when dealing with the sharp
My passion for the fascinating wolrd of science literally can not be put into words. Since receiving my first home science kit at five years of age the way things work and why has always been at the forefront of my mind. During my early years I would find great delight in examining anything I could fit under the lens of my telescope. I will never forget my first look at the intricate detail of a human hair.
“Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.” This is a quote by Karen LaValley, this quote that came to me going into career day. I wanted to find a career that I would enjoy doing. Not a job that I would dread going to work every day and not liking what I was doing. Out of all the options I had going into career day, I chose landscaping because I wanted to learn more and see what the career had to offer.
I had heard rumors about this man named Mr. from my siblings and other friends, he sounded like a really smart guy who assigned literally a ton, two thousand pounds, of homework. Mrs. Weber talked to some of us about taking his class, then we went to talk to him for a class period about his class for the next year. This is where I just got a glimpse of what Mr. Mcgee was like, and what I had preconceived, what wrong, he was a really really smart guy, with a hilarious sense of humor, and someone that could somehow make lecturing really fun, though most of what he said went over my head. I kind of wish I could relive this year, because next year will not be the same. With such a small class, we were able to learn a lot better, and grow closer
I began to engage with my classmates in the classrooms and started enjoy learning. I felt challenged by my classes, they weren’t so hard that I couldn't maintain the workload but yet I felt like I was learning. The intellectual cultural varied depending on the class I attended. Some of my classes the students participated more, asked questions, stimulated discussions while others the students were just a body in the seat. Those classes were particularly long and boring, seemed like they would ever
Growing up in the Magic Valley has introduced and involved me with many agricultural related activities and jobs. I have raised heifers for the county fair, raised sugar beets for the market, sold steers at the local auction, and many other agricultural related activities. I have found many enjoyable aspects of agriculture that have given me life experiences and lessons that will benefit me and others for the remainder of my life. Agricultural industries are full of men and women that have earned reputations for hard work, efficient labor, and innovative ideas. I have always admired these qualities in many of my mentors and role models.
The most interesting part was attending the specialties that the students had, such as their health class, early literature class, and counseling. For each of these there was a different teacher. During health I was able to assist, in activities. However while observing part of the lecture, I learned that I didn’t like the classroom management that was being used. During early literature, the students were read a book and then wrote story about the same theme.
Gardening can be one of the most enjoyable, relaxing and rewarding things you can do. It is one of those projects that you are only limited by a very few thing. Your limitations can be space, time and resource, but never your imagination. Regardless of those few restriction, you can still create the idea garden that you and others can enjoy. Whether you plan gardening from plant pots or from a raised bed, your greatest challenge can be getting started.
“Growing up is losing some illusions, in order to acquire others.” ― Virginia Woolf. In this final year of high school, I have grown in a way that is hard to describe, but to put it simply, I finally feel like an adult. My background has gotten me where I am today; and I am proud and happy that it has led me to go into a career that I am passionate about. From the time I was 3 years old, I loved art.
Home gardens offer a wide variety of benefits to the environment and serve a diverse group of people. Home gardening provides a source of fresh produce and free of chemicals, it also gives you complete control over the chemicals and products used during the growing process. A home garden allows you to pick the produce when its ripe, unlike produce at the store is often picked before its fully ripe. The quality and flavor of the freshly picked produce from home is better than the produce that might have unknown chemicals and was likely picked several days or weeks before being sold. The produce retains more nutrients when consumed shortly after being picked, making your home garden vegetables a healthier option. A garden also provides a positive environmental impact. The compost allows you to recycle certain kitchen and yard waste into a nutrient-rich additive for the garden. This provides natural fertilizer for you plants and reduces the wastes you produce. If you choose to avoid or limit chemical use, you reduce pollution from your gardening activities. Besides being good for the environment gardens have environmental gains for us. Gardening help control urban temperatures, If the environmental landscape design is effective it can cool your home in summer and warm it in winter, it can also reduce the energy cost by up to 20%. Gardening, and all the physical activity that goes along with it, leads to a better overall physical health, weight loss, improve you bones, and reduces the risk of having osteoporosis. “In a study of 3,310 older women, researchers from the University of Arkansas found that women involved in yard work and other types of gardening exercises had lower rates of osteoporosis than joggers, swimmers, and women wh...
