Elaboration: Upon my arrival on my first day, the students were at recess. However due to weather, the students had indoor recess, which was a little intimidating at first, but also gave me an advantage to interact with the students before class started. After recess the students then had their reading groups. There were three groups. One group worked with Mrs. Lundberg, another group worked with her paraeducator, and the third group did independent reading. I decided to do one-on-one reading with a few students. The students have individual baskets in which they keep their books for independent reading.The last student that I read with worked very diligently, and loved to read with someone. The most interesting part was attending the specialties that the students had, such as their health class, early literature class, and counseling. For each of these there was a different teacher. During health I was able to assist, in activities. However while observing part of the lecture, I learned that I didn’t like the classroom management that was being used. During early literature, the students were read a book and then wrote story about the same theme. Then there was counseling. The students had earned a game day in counseling, so they were able to play games until recess. When recess came around, I went outside and helped Mrs. Lundberg with recess duty. It was very interesting, when I had multiple students come up to me to tattle. I wasn’t entirely sure how to handle the problem at first, because the tattling was all over students not being able to play nice while playing tag. I asked Mrs. Lundberg what actions should be taken and she had told me that if the students couldn’t play nice to tell them that then they would ban tag and no one could play. One of my favorites was her little library in the classroom. As I mentioned in the elaboration the students have baskets filled with books. The books come from a little library that Mrs.Lundberg has in her room. They are categorized by genre/topic,and every few days the students have book shopping where they can exchange books, and I love the idea of it! I also love the behavior chart that Mrs.Lundberg has. Instead of taking away recess, she has a chart and if the student misbehaves their pin is lowered. At the end of the day depending on how far up or down the pin is the student can hole punch a card and when they fill the card they get a prize. I plan on incorporating both of these ideas into my
In conclusion, my first impression was wrong, the classroom was not some kind of battlefield of teacher and student casualties. The students were not a lost cause that I imagine them to be. The students were well mannered and just wanted to be treated with respect. The classroom management was impeccable and astounding. It goes to show that although you may think you know a group of students you can be very mistaken.
The teaching strategy focuses on the student’s engagement to create reading with meaning. This reading strategy allows students to have more freedom to make their own decisions in what they read and how they read, without the teacher forcing materials upon them. As well, more time is allotted during the school day for students to engage in reading activities, instead of using traditional methods of writing paper and answering questions on a worksheet after reading a book. The Daily Five teaching strategy also strongly develops oral communication skills within students and their peers. By doing so, it creates a sense of community in the classroom that traditional teaching methods did not have. This teaching strategy allows the student to question the material they are reading, which includes their interests, ability to comprehend, and understanding vocabulary. Through the Daily Five teaching strategy, students are also able to find books that interests them, without the teacher giving them group of “leveled” books students may not personally
I think the concept of Kobod’s box was a good idea, but adjustments would have to be made in order to make sure everyone could participate. I think doing random acts of kindness helps students learn about subjects that can tie into school, as well as real life situations. I liked that Torey used cooking as a way to teach the students about reading and math, as many recipes feature both. I also think cooking activities can be more fun for students as they are hands on. I also liked Torey’s use of imagination to transport the children to oceans or the wilderness. I believe this activity sparks creativity in children and would be a good technique to teach them about adjectives and imagery. My favorite of Hayden’s techniques and the one I would implement is the of traffic lights to signal a student’s behavior for the day. I have seen this technique used in many classrooms I have observed and it is a good visual way to keep student’s behavior in
On this Fall I was taking Theater class with a great professor. His name is Kendrick Jones and he is from Detroit. The professor was so kind with the student and helpful because he wanted us to learn about Theater. He wanted us to learn at least 1 thing about Theater from his class. Also, he let the class to be fun by doing some activities because he doesn’t want the students to get bored in his class. By doing some activates and meet with our groups during the class will help the students to communicate with each other. Also, that will help them to improve their skills and to share the ideas and come up with something new for the audience. It’s gives the class a different taste when the instructor let the students meet with their groups and let them work together. For me I always want to come to theater class not just because the attendance points, but I wanted to learn some things that I don’t know. Thank god I learned some things by attending this class everyday, and I took 200 out of 200 on the attendance grade.

A student can learn memorize anything that a teacher lectures on. But the information is only stored temporally. If you make it fun and exciting the student not only learns but the memory lasts a life time.
This fall semester of 2014 has been an interesting and learning experience for myself. I haven’t attend school in nearly a decade and was unsure of what to expect from my teachers and myself. I would have to say being in Professor Dybala’s English 1302 to start my school day is interesting. She is an energetic professor and I’m able to feel her passion for teaching and that motivate me to try my best in her class as the rest of my classes. I was driven to do the best of my ability and whatever the outcome might be, I know I did my best.
CHAPTER 3: REPRESENTATION OF LATINOS’ STEREOTYPES IN THE FILMS 3. REPRESENTATION OF LATINOS’ IN THE FILMS In the previous chapter, the introduction of six Latinos’ stereotypes was briefly presented in the studying of Latinos images in films (Berge: 2002), so this chapter 3 is responsible for explaining and analyzing several characteristics of Latinos stereotype thoroughly. These results are similar to the investigation by Berumen (1995). Latinos negative stereotypes were portrayed as “waiters, bandits, Latin lovers, prostitutes, gang members, and drug dealers”.
She pulled me aside and told me that she was going to change it up for the day and that instead of doing a large group read like she had planned, she asked the class to break themselves into groups to do the reading. After the initial rowdiness, all of the students were in groups and began reading. Both my host teacher and I walked around from group to group to facilitate and help with the reading, sometimes taking the parts/roles that had the most lines. In addition to this, I had prepared questions/notes for the readings as I was meant to have my host teacher observe me during the time period where it was going to be a group read.
“What’s your story?” “Why are you here?” “What happened?” “What have you learned from this class?” “What kind of impact will you have on your society?” These are just a few of the questions Professor Conti made me think about as we stepped into the final weeks of our semester. From that moment on, I knew that within this semester Professor Conti stepped away from the stereotypical classroom. He cares about his students and rather than relying on textbook material; he used their words and experiences in order to develop a very enjoyable and worth while class.
Reading goals must be realistic. Students will not engage if the reading is not authentic. I want to encourage my students in reading and give them the tools they need to succeed while allowing them to choose what they read. I also want to implement different reading assessments that are creative rather than just textbook responses. Genuine reading experiences will help my students find their own passion for reading. These experiences may come from allowing students to pick their own books, having parent involvement, giving specific feedback, or alternative ways of assessment. I believe the more options I give my readers the more realistic my chances of connecting with them are.

The one topic that was most relevant was behavioral issues, because most of the students in this classroom had behavioral problems and it affect the way they learn. It was great to see the teacher be patience, and it was very insightful to watch how she handle each behavioral problem that arose in the classroom. Another topic that arose was the different types of instruction, but as discussed early in the paper the classroom that I observed was a direct instruction.
