“Growing up is losing some illusions, in order to acquire others.” ― Virginia Woolf. In this final year of high school, I have grown in a way that is hard to describe, but to put it simply, I finally feel like an adult. My background has gotten me where I am today; and I am proud and happy that it has led me to go into a career that I am passionate about. From the time I was 3 years old, I loved art. I would go through a stack of printer paper in a couple hours, and drew on the wall in the house my sisters and I grew up in. In the summer after first grade, we moved in with my mother. Going to a new elementary school, I was bullied quite a lot. I was awkward, and did not know how to talk to people. Gaining friends was difficult, and one of the ways I enticed other kids was by drawing. During recess, I would draw, sometimes people would come over and ask me to sketch them. As a kid, passion is much more important than skill; you can get bored and give up. Skill can fuel passion, but practice, just keeping at something is important in developing a skill. I loved art then, and I still do. …show more content…
We have had to take care of ourselves and each other since we were younger. I have two sisters, and I could say my family encouraged my interest in art. My older sister, April, was inspiring to me when I was younger, and as I got older I saw her as a standard for myself, even as competition. I enjoyed drawing faces, as well as everything else. Eventually, my mom died in 2013, we moved back into our father’s house, and I lost myself for a little while. I don't remember what I was doing art-wise, but I remember finding the art club immediately and joining. I spent that year living with an alcoholic, and feeling quite depressed myself. The summer of 2014 was going into town, sketching people, buildings, lights, everything. This helped me get better at art (due to practice) and grow as a person, at the very
- during primary school he expressed an interest in drawing and would practice sketching by copying the front page of dad’s newpeaper.
Widened with amazement, my eyes watched as my fingers swirled the blobs of red and blue paint into a deep purple. The smell of tempera paint and wet wood-chips surrounded me that rainy day in the small playground of De Colores pre-school. I vividly remember feeling that astounded thrice more; first, when I roamed the aisles of Michael’s craft store for the first time, secondly, when I perfected my favorite shrimp dish, and lastly after my first psychology course. Though I have had countless positive and exciting experiences, I have also had some pretty impactful negative ones. Dropping out of high school was the biggest blessing in disguise of my life. It led to my enrollment in a concurrent enrollment program at a local community college that changed my life, through which I met some resilient people that I will always remember. Art therapy is my number one career choice and the Master of Arts in Art Therapy program at Notre Dame de Namur University
Frieda Kahlo was born Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderon in Coyoacan, Mexico, July 6th, 1907. She did not in the first place plan to become a creator; she entered a pre-Master of Education system in Mexico City. She endured more than large integer dealing in her brio time and during her convalescence she began to discomfit. Her beaux-arts, mostly self-portraits and still life, filled with the colors and forms of Mexican folk art. Frieda created some 200 spacing’s, artistic production and sketches germane to her education in life, physical and aroused pain and her churning relationship with her ex husband Diego. She produced 143 beaux arts, lv of which are self-portraits. At the time of her exhibition first step, Frieda’s health was such that her Doctor told her that she was not to leave her patch. She insisted that she was going to wait on her opening, and, in Frieda style, she did. She arrived in an ambulance and her bed in the backward of a transport. She was placed in her bed and four men carried her in to the waiting guests.
Art is something that has been around since humans have roamed the earth. It has been created by millions of different people, and has been influenced by many things. One incredibly big influence on art has been religion. Artists usually create work to express feelings and convey different meanings. It is no surprise that religion plays a significant role in this creation.
When I was around fifteen her daughter took over teaching the fiddlers and would often have me lead a separate group. Around this time I started to think about what I wanted to do in life career wise. I had never really found any career that appealed to me, the thought had been that I would eventually go into music education, however teaching my sister violin for a year and later my three younger brothers for around two more years made me pretty certain that I didn’t want to become a teacher. During all this time my art had been on a back burner, just a something I would do to destress. All this changed when I bought the book The Art of Tangled; a book all about the production and development art of the move Tangled. I had no idea so much work was put into animated films, and the idea that that was someone’s actual job was exciting to me. I started researching what type of degrees were needed for a concept art job which lead me to the not unexpected conclusion that nowhere in Mississippi offers any kind of illustration
From an early age I have always had a strong interest in art, and have been involved with it in some form all through my life. In year nine I realized that it was something that I might like to pursue as a career, I started taking it more seriously. The Chase's art department encouraged me very well and helped me develop my art skills.
My cousin was the reason I started drawing in the first place. I was only five or six years old at the time, but when I entered his room, he was sitting at his desk drawing on a sheet of paper. I watched from over his shoulder as he slowly drew the lines of the picture. I watched in amazement as the lines came together in the form of a dragon. I was shocked and curious as to how he was able to draw something so cool. When I asked,
Ever since I was little, I had this thing for doing whatever I wanted when it came to drawing, coloring, and such. I remember when I was in kindergarten, we would do this activity where the teachers make the students grab a bunch of crayons, and they would tell us in which direction to move them, without lifting them of the page. I never did this activity. Once they gave me the paper and the crayons, I was a goner. I wouldn’t even realize we were doing that activity. I just filled the page with color, making it look as I pleased. The teachers never told me anything because they could obviously see I loved drawing, so basically, they would let me do what I wanted during that time. To this day, this still happens. I lose myself in what I’m drawing. Everything else doesn’t matter, it’s all just blur.
Using the method of drawing, allowed the child to show how they felt instead of saying what they were
A child’s drawing can tell so much about what they are thinking and feeling about their surroundings. They see things differently from adults and teens because when they are drawing or doing some sort of art they are not told that it is a “bad picture” or what ever they are doing is “not right.” They don’t have a limit upon their thoughts and ideas, but when they grow up, they do. Starting from the first day of school, they are taught about the wrong things and the right things. As we grow older there are more classes that have right and wrong answers to a question like, for example, math.
From Mark Twain to Vincent van Gogh, each genre of art comes with its greatest master. There are many compelling arguments to why this specific artist, musician or writer is the best in their category. In modern days, we don’t have a Mozart, or a Hemingway or even an Andy Warhol. There are many good artists of their own kind and many more are emerging thanks to new technology and new forms of media art. However, many arguments are made as to why these forms of art aren’t considered true forms of art. A few years back and even today, many argue that digital paintings aren’t real art so it is not surprising when people don’t think of a video game as an art form, but it is. The world is at constant change and so is art.
My favorite thing to do is to color and draw. I love to color. Coloring pages from the internet, and at times I will draw bubble letters and color those.

The school ended up opening up an after school program for students who were interested in art. Expressing creativity is one of the most productive leisure activity because one is being in touch with their feelings. Creative work also help to open your mind more and makes you go out of the box and creating an outcome that gives expression to insight (Cordes, 2013, pg. 4). Going out of the box and building something out of your imagination can help in the long run when you need to implement creativity as an adult. I ended up joining the after school program and I would spend most time there drawing and creating stencils. At that time I was also experimenting my sexuality so I kissed a couple of girls during that year and I ended up being really attracted to girls. In the art class I attended after school I started working on a stencil of a girl with a mini skirt bending over with her thong showing and the caption said “Peek-A-Boo.” Part of me was still a rebellious teen that wanted to put my art all over the school to upset the principal. When I started working on the small details of the piece I got really creative with the technique. I spent most of my time working on my art and I was really proud of that work. The principal and my parents were upset with my work but I wasn’t. In that moment is where I learned how to do
I started sketching and painting when I was about 12. I started liking what I was seeing and thats what gave me the idea that I wanted to be an artist. Of course there were many step...
