"Passion for Fashion" is too cliché. I'm guessing about 50% of people who submit their essays have that phrase. Of course I have passion, but it is more than that. Singer machine, merrow machine, blind machine and cover stitch were always around me as a child and until now it is around me. My mom, who is my biggest influence, has been a seamstress for the past 40 years. After graduating from high school, I have helped her and her alteration business as an assistant tailor. Even though I've helped her as an assistant tailor, my passion was not in the fashion field at that moment. I’ve wondered around because I didn’t know what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. My chances were running out and I couldn’t picture myself doing anything else that wasn’t my biggest passion. Finally realizing fashion was always around waiting for me, I’ve taken this opportunity as my last chance to make my dream a reality. At first, I didn’t know which school was right for me. I always knew that FIT and Parsons was the Top 2 fashion schools in NYC. What I didn’t know was that FIT offered a Menswear major and it was the only school that offered the program. That’s when I knew FIT was the school for me. My mom didn’t support the idea when I first told her. She wanted me to study a program that would get me a stable job such as engineers, mechanic, or something in the computer field. I’ve told her my plans and my passion for menswear. After hours of talking, she finally gave me the green light and told me that I have her full support. I was one step closer to achieving my goal. People ask me why a big guy like me, who looks like he doesn’t belong in this field, wants to study men’s fashion. I tell them it’s because I’m confident and I know I’m going to do well. One day, I want to show everyone who has doubted me and made fun of me that when you have the passion and when you are confident, you can succeed.
