The definition of clothes in the dictionary is "things worn to cover the body and limbs e.g shirt, trousers", but in today's society, I believe people view the term as more than things that cover our body parts. We wear clothes for comfort whether it's for special occasions like Christmas or for lazy days when we rather stay inside than socialize with people in the outside world. Throughout the years the meaning of clothes has evolved. Yes, back then when cavemen walked the earth they probably saw clothes as pieces of material covering their bodies for heat, but now clothes hold more of a significant meaning in the modern world. I honestly like clothes, well who doesn't? I like the process of taking hours and hours until I find the right clothes to make a perfect outfit that suits me. I savor the satisfaction afterward. It may be a bit overdramatic, but I honestly can't help myself. Like what Isaac Bashevis Singer said "What a strange power there is in clothing".
My mom loved dressing me up in the weirdest combinations possible. There was a time when I had to wear this baby pink long sleeve with an orange short-sleeved cardigan over it. It was matched with a checkered skirt, bright itchy polka-dot tights, and black polished shoes. That was only one of her contained outfits she had picked for me. I had

I don't have a specific person as my inspiration when it comes to fashion. When it comes to clothes as long as I see anyone wearing stylish yet comfortable clothes, anyone can be my inspiration. Everyone viewer clothes differently whether they hang them up as idols in a sanctuary or lying around somewhere on your bedroom floor. To me, clothes can be seen as souvenirs you collect along the way in your lifetime that can carry a favourite memory. Just like a souvenir from an occasion. "To me, clothing is a form of self-expression- There are hints about who you are in what you wear"- Marc
The evolution of clothing has been drastically changed through the course of history, from the style to how they’re made. Women and men’s clothing changed at different rates. The way clothes are made reflect the style. Clothing always has been an important aspect of one’s culture as well as a representation of a time period. Overtime clothing has changed just as the people it clothes.
Have you ever seen people that follow a mixture of religions, dress differently in public all over
Parents and their children are constantly arguing about the way students dress in school. This debate has become a national conversation which has been going on for more than a decade. However, there still hasn’t been a final resolution. The questions “Why do I have to wear the uniform today?” or “Can I wear this t-shirt because the color matches with my school t-shirt?” have become part of our everyday lives. Before we go any further, we have to understand the difference between uniforms and dress codes. A uniform is simply a garment worn that is the same in all cases and at all times. Whereas, a dress code is a set of rules regarding the required manner of clothing in a certain context. For instance, a school might not allow students to wear
In elementary school there was a dress code, but it was not enforced, not even by the principal. One day after recess, a student was walking up the stairs wearing sandals and she stubbed her toe. When she hit the step, her toenail broke off and started to bleed. Catching a peek at her toe, it seemed as if it could be broken as well. Due to the blood and the possibility of a broken toe, she had to be sent to the nurse’s office right away. As the rest of the class went back to the classroom, the other students could not stop thinking about the accident, and how any one of them could have a broken and bleeding toe right now. In addition, all of the students knew that the situation was avoidable, although they were too late to help the girl with the broken toenail in the nurse’s office. The situation became even more intense when the girl’s mom picked her up and drove her to the doctor’s office. Two of her toes were broken from the hit on the step, and half of her toenail was broken off. The school didn’t get in any trouble, however, most other schools in the area do have dress codes that are enforced.
Our people are too blind to realize what fashion can do to a person. Sure first impressions are influenced by appearances. It’s true indeed that the first trait when people see each other for the first time is what they are wearing. However where do we draw the line? People excessively attempt to imitate runway models or their favorite artists. Becoming too wrapped up following the newest trend or the hottest style this season. Men and women desperately try to mold themselves into fashions “ideal body.” Fashion is harmful to society; it promotes harmful lifestyle choices, can contribute to bullying and often causes debt problems to young woman.
Dress code, probably one of the most talked about topics by teenagers. Most teenagers believe that dress code is “witless” or “incompetent”. Why do we think this? Well, most adults believe that keeping a strict dress code keeps us educated because apparently our clothes are “distracting”. Now I can see how wearing booty shorts and a tank top would be distracting, but how is wearing sweatpants distracting? If anything wearing sweatpants keeps us comfortable, because I know that being uncomfortable is way more distracting than wearing sweatpants. When I wear sweatpants I can lay back and relax while the teacher talks, but if I am uncomfortable I am more likely to move around and fidget with my clothes rather than listen to the lesson.

School uniforms should be part of the school systems, because statistics had shown that students who wear uniforms are doing better than dress codes. From the moment I starting my educational path I knew four years wouldn’t be enough to fill me with all the dimensions of the fashion industry. This led me to make my decision to apply for the M.S. Global Fashion Enterprise degree. When asked how this program at Philadelphia University would benefit me, I will begin by giving a background on my previous education. I started my undergraduate degree at Buffalo State College in upstate New York pursuing a Bachelor degree in Fashion Merchandising. After being in the program for a year I was confident in knowing I needed a change. My journey changed drastically when I moved down to sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida where I transferred to the Art Institute under the same major. I will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fashion Merchandising come this June 2014. My experience at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale has uncovered my love of education and research.
Clothing is something that defines a person, and allows society to have an outlook on an individual’s lifestyle and beliefs. Unlike criticizing other material things like a car, a home or even something as simple as a television set, criticism of clothing is very personal. This suggests that there is a high correlation between clothing and personal identity and values. (Breward, pg.1) Clothing in a sense has the ability to communicate thought. However, similarly to art interpretations, this does not mean that any two people will perceive these visual aesthetics similarly.
