COED SPORTS Although many people think we should have girls and boys playing on the same team all together. In my opinion I think it's a bad idea and that there will be more injuries on the field than most the time bc most girls in high school aren't as tough as the guys so this is my reasoning. First reason, is people would disagree with me but I dont think its a good idea because, there will be so many faults because girls and boys play sports way different for example softball and baseball they pitch different they pitch slower they use bigger bats everything is different is my point. Second reason, safety most normal girls are not meant for football with guys guys are much tougher and are scared to hurt a girl so it won't be fair
if they have lots of girls on the other team. The point i'm tryin to make is that it would not be a good idea at all if you have girls and boys playing against each other. Third, reason is that there are lots of sports girls have that guys don't play we both have sports it need‘s to stay like that in my opinion . many people are going to disagree with me but, i think it would be safer if we all stayed the way it is now. Thank’s for reading my opinion on coed sports i would love to know if you share the same opinion I do.
Coed sports have been argued for many years. There have been many examples in today's sports that support the idea of coed sports. Some have already even taken actions to do so. An example of these actions is, the girl who pitched in a Little League World Series game. Sports should be coed because they promote gender equality, build friendships, and increase self-confidence and pride. When boys and girls play together in sports it makes the competition more exciting to watch.
Lots of women were not allowed to play because of their gender. “Passing an entrance exam to morehouse college allowing women to get a good education but can not play on a basketball team” (Davis 3). School’s did not allow women to play because the schools did not think that women are not athletic. “Women were not allowed to play until the 1955 when they let men play” (Davis 4). It is hard for girls because so many people were saying that girls are not athletic as guys are.
Football is possibly too dangerous of a game for young boys and girls to be playing. I am not talking about all forms of football, but more specifically tackle football. Yes, football may possibly be one of America’s loved sport because of the brutality that it consists of; although I believe that there should be an age where kids should start playing such a horrific game. At the age of ten young boys, and girls, should be worrying about who they are going to be playing with outside at recess. Kids should not have to be worried about their friends having to miss school because of a concussion, or worse him or herself.
There are leagues all over the world with both adults and kids. For example, at Ouachita, there are intermural leagues that involve the students and the faculty. In Korea, the National Football League attracts up to 20 teams from middle school students to grown adults. Not only are the ages varied, but there are no rules discriminating against gender. Girls can absolutely play with no restrictions since there is only a small amount of physical contact. There’s an active league in Key West, Florida called the Kelly McGillis class. This league has over 90 women’s and girls’ teams, participating in 8 on 8 semi-contact flag
Women have forever had this label on their back of being too small, too weak, too feminine, and too boring. The traditional gender roles of the female interfere with the extortionate nature of competing in sports. Men are usually the ones to go 100% and give whatever they got, and to show masculinity while doing it. The standard masculinity of being strong, smart, and taking charge over dues the feminine traits of being soft, gentle, and polite. That’s what society has taught us to learn and accept. But the traditional female gender role is diminished when participating in athletics and people may think it’s weird to see females compete at the same level as males do. Men have always had the upper hand in the professional, collegian, and high
Today more than any other time period, equality has become a hot topic for discussion. One of the major topic is, should women be allowed to compete with men in sports on the same or opposing teams. Due to a lot of differences in physical characteristics, sporting interest, and economic considerations; it’s not a good idea to bring teams consisting of both genders together. To begin with, we have to question whether there’s even a want from the general public for girls being allowed to play on boys’ sports teams. Very few athletes in sports are barely even bothered about the fact women can’t play on male sport teams. If there’s no true desire to combine the teams, it only makes sense to not try a force unneeded change.
Youth sports can be a learning experience or it can be a health risk to the athletes. Youth sports can teach young children the value of hard work and discipline or it can be emotionally and physically damaging. Three main points are how sports keep you healthy, how they build character, and the values that they will learn from sports and how they will use in the future. These three ideas prove that youth sports can be healthy, they build character, and can teach them the value of hard work and discipline for your kid.
To an American, football is a game where you run with an oval pointed edge ball and try to get across your opponent’s touch line. To another person somewhere in Europe, Africa or South America, football is a game played basically with the foot, kicking a spherical leather ball with an aim of putting it into a goal post. Both games do have lots of differences, despite their names meaning the same thing in different regions of the world. Looking at the game of football, one will wonder if there is a female face behind those helmet; certainly not. American football is a game played only by males. Due to the major contacts made, females may not be seen fit to play. This is not the case with soccer. Soccer is played by both male and females, but not in the same competition. In soccer, males do have their leagues separately from the females. Sometimes for fun, both sex do play along side.
Gender in sports has been a controversial issue ever since sports were invented. In the early years, sports were played only by the men, and the women were to sit on the sidelines and watch. This was another area of life exemplifying the sexism of people in which women were not allowed to do something that men could. However, over the last century in particular, things have begun to change.
In the world of sports it started off that girls could never play sports and then in 1972 a public law called Title IX came to existence which allowed girls to play sports but not with boys. Today the question is asked should girls play on boys’ sports teams? One would think that girls should not play with boys on a sports team because boys are just naturally taller and stronger than women and they would dominate the girls in a fully contact sport. Another may think that if a girl is truly capable to play on an all boys’ sports team, then she should not be denied the opportunity to try out for an all boys’ team. Some other people may believe that sports at younger ages should remain co-ed because boys and girls body types are still similar, but once boys and girls are in high school sports should separate based on gender. Females and Males are equal but not in physical stature, having a girl on an all boys team will negatively change the dynamics/flow of a game, having the best girl player on an all boy’s team will hurt the girls’ sports teams. So sports should strictly stay separated between males and females.
It is clear that sports are big deal in our lives. They shape us as individuals and more importantly they promote gender roles and stereotypes that have negative impacts on females. It promotes a paradigm that states males are superior to females when it comes to sports. Co-ed sports can be used as a foundation to break through this paradigm and jumpstart a movement to disease these gender roles and stereotypes we place. Females don’t get equal opportunities as they don’t want to perceive as manly because of this dichotomous thinking we have. They shy away from getting into sports. Using co-ed leagues not only benefits females and promotes them to play sports, it also benefits them as a generation to further this paradigm shift and dismiss
Giving women an equal opportunity to play against men will change the norm of women in sports and this can be seen as better because both genders will truly be viewed as equals. Women will also have more opportunities to play various sports that are exclusive to men, such as football and baseball. Brake also included numerous reasons why sports should be gender segregated.
Whether its baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey, or tennis, sports is seen all over the world as a representation of one’s pride for their city, country, and even continent. Sports is something that is valued world-wide which has the ability to bring communities together and create different meanings, beliefs and practices between individuals. Although many people may perceive sports to have a significant meaning within our lives, it can also have the ability to separate people through gender inequalities which can also be represented negatively throughout the media. This essay will attempt to prove how gender is constructed in the sports culture while focusing on female athletes and their acceptance in today’s society.
Girls would feel uncomfortable so will stand on the side aside the game and staying away from boys. In addition it states,” When teams retreat to the locker room at halftime, boys and girls will go to separate rooms, making it difficult for a halftime speech from the coach to prepare athletes for the rest of the game(Barbie Carpenter(2015,September) Are There Disadvantages of Girls and Boys Playing Together in Sports?)” This explains why the judge, either female or male can only help one gender. This is a disadvantage either way because if boys know what to do, the teamwork splits in half, while the same thing will happen if the girls know what to do. So we can make the conclusion that the coach can only support 50% of the team during halftime. Furthermore,in LiveStrong.com it states,”If girls are on the same team as them, they might not perform as well as they could on an all-girls team, where they would be up against players with a similar skill set (Barbie Carpenter(2015,September) Are
Over the last few decades there can be seen a major shift in female participation within sports and physical activity. Many have the mentality that due to making immense headway recently, means that females can cease to worry about their ability to participate, however I do not agree with this. Despite a noticeable shift in female participation over the last few decades, women continue to face adversity through trying to prove the legitimacy of female athletes and sports, a lack of shift in gender ideology, and being seen as equals to males within the world or sports and physical activity in general.
