Balancing the diverse needs of individual players with the overarching goals of the team requires careful planning and effective communication. Moreover, navigating unforeseen obstacles such as player injuries and fatigue tested my ability to adapt and modify practice plans on the fly. One particular challenge I encountered was managing player fatigue during intense practice sessions. With a packed schedule of games and practices, it was essential to prioritize player recovery and ensure that they were adequately rested and prepared for competition. Incorporating recovery strategies such as foam rolling, stretching, and light cardio into practice routines helps alleviate muscle soreness and prevent injuries, highlighting the importance of player wellness in the coaching
In order to see outcomes in this area of improvement, we as coaches must re-evaluate not only our athletes, but, in addition, our coaching styles. Of course, we all want to tell ourselves that we are great coaches and it's the athletes who are not following direction...
Pat Summitt has been diagnosed with Dementia, early-onset Alzheimer’s type. Even though she no longer makes the play calls or runs the practices, she can still be found on the court yelling at players until her face turns blue. Summitt is very much still a large part of the Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team, and considers herself the “big gun”; her official title is Head Coach Emeritus. Her constant rock is her son, Ross “Tyler” Summitt, her pride, joy and greatest accomplishment; although Summitt did not want her son to follow in her footsteps, he is currently the head coach at Louisiana Tech and has succeeded expectations. Many of Summitt’s former players were inspired by her, and many have become outstanding coaches at every level of the game. From many famous college coaches like Sylvia Hatchell, Geno Auriemma, and Kim Mulkey, the game of women’s basketball is headed towards a bright
When completing an exercise a person is expecting results that day, during or post workout. Training is a long-term process that creates noticeable and physical results over a span of weeks, even months and years. Training involves planning with preparation for the training duration and progress towards a goal. The desire to win and be better than the competition is essentially important for professional and collegiate athletes. These athletes take training and preparation for a competition to a new level of determination and commitment. For the last two years, I have been working with the University of Oklahoma’s softball team as their student athletic trainer. I attend every practice, workout, and all of their games. As the student athletic trainer, I help with assessing their injuries, with treatment and rehabilitation of their injuries as well as injury prevention. I have watched these women go through some strenuous workouts and have seen their improvements. Some of the girls have asked about taking CrossFit classes or other workout programs during winter and summer breaks. Our strength coach advised against taking the CrossFit classes that he has not specifically approved. He
Being a Basketball Coach. The reason why i am studying this career is because i want to know what it is like to be a High School, or a College Coach, and a National League Associations (NBA) and just to see how it is to be a coach . My history of this career is that i have been to so many job shadows that are coaches and some coaches are nice too there players and some are very mean. There are a lot of basketball coaches out there and the employment of this job is to make sure your other coaches stay on track with the players to because some of the basketball players just want to go out and party after a game which that is not good for your body to have alcohol or anything else in your body. You can find these jobs everywhere
A proper coaching philosophy contains principles which improve character development, teach step by step tactical and technical skills, form proper progressive physical training regimens, and carefully utilize team management to handle and control problems with administrative issues. A coach with a sound philosophy should mold a team with strong cohesion, and he should treat players not only as teammates, but as family and friends who are encouraged to develop communication and lifelong learning of skills through positive support and role modeling from the coach (Mergelsberg, 14-15). The philosophy should also contain written documents of implemented strategies and techniques, so that the coach will know what to improve upon season by season

Athletic Training plays a big role in the world today. Many people are on the go whether it is for sports or every day activities. Athletic Trainers can help with athletes of any age or industrial workers performing physical tasks or even an average citizen in recreational athletics. They help prevent injuries and help recognize injuries and treat them. They also help rehabilitate injuries that result from physical activity (Athletic Training Association). They are usually first on the scene of an injury (Campus Explorer). Athletic Trainers are health care professionals that work along the side of certified physicians. They also work for other health care professionals, coaches, or parents (Athletic Training Association). While working full time for a sports team, they are faced with tough decisions that could affect the players’ health or career. They must also be able to make fast decisions under pressure. A trainer working for a team can advance their job by switching teams or even becoming an Athletic Training director (Campus Explorer). Athletic Trainers are certified in prevention, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, immediate care, treatment, rehab and reconditioning, organization and administration and professional responsibility (Athletic Training Association). They help athletes prepare for practices, competit...
John wooden a former player and later became a basketball coach once said. “A coach much never forget that he is a leader and not merely a person with authority.” Basketball has been something in our everyday lives for a while. To allot it something they just can't live without and others just choose to not even bother with it. I think that it is worth the time to look more into basketball. Basketball can be started at a elementary school level, and they can usually go to sign up at local boys and girls clubs maybe at their school if they offer it and can even join through their church if they attend one and they offer it to them. Being a coach seems easy to most parents but it really isn't how it isn't is a coach must ensure that players
I’m a basketball coach and a speech teacher for high school, and the reason why I chose this career is because I find coaching interesting as well as teaching speech class. And I another reason is because I like basketball.
Growing up I was extremely blessed having an incredible coach at every level of sport I participated in. From those experiences I know how much a coach can make a difference in your life. For that reason my dream job is coaching college basketball at any division. It does not matter to me what level, because kids at the D-3 level need just as much guidance and help as student athletes at the D-1 level. During my coaching career I hope to blend two leadership styles in particular together in order to make my athletes better men, but also to keep the game they love fun to play. I feel by taking the Charismatic Leadership style’s enthusiasm and loyalty and mixing it with a Transformational Leaders innovation and emphasis on change, I can be an extremely effective and power leader for my student athletes.
Creative new training methods, developed by coaches, athletes and sport scientists, are aimed to help improve the quality and quantity of athletic training ( Kellmann, 2010, p.1). However, these methods have encountered a consistent set of barriers including overtraining ( Kellmann, 2010, p.1). Due to these barriers, the need for physical and mental recovery in athletics brought an increasing attention in practice and in research ( Kellmann, 2010, p.1).
Athletic staleness and burnout is a big problem for many of today’s athletes whether they are at the amateur or professional level. The good thing about this problem that ends up in total and complete physical and emotional exhaustion is that it can be recognized when it is taking place. It can also be treated if the recognition comes at too late of a stage of the onset of staleness and burnout. But the best remedy for athletic staleness and burnout is prevention of it in the first place. There are three different models that have been used to explain the causes of athlete burnout.
Playing a sport whether its basketball, soccer, football or any other of your interest can be thrilling, and exciting. Not only can it be fun, yet physical exercise is good for the mind, body, and spirit. Therefore, as an athlete, one must keep in mind that playing any sport, injury is part of life and inevitable. Research has proven from time to time that severe injuries in sports can trigger psychological mental health issues, affecting their athletic performance. Recovering from an injury can indeed be a difficult process and athletes must wait for however long before being able to play the sport again.
By understanding this relationship, coaches can develop training regimes that will improve the success of their players on the
A sport coaching is an important way of developing the career of athletes. It involves a manager or a coach helping sportspeople to utilize their abilities and advance in their sports careers. Coaches usually watch his/her performer in a match, identify areas that need improvement in the performer’s sporting, and develop plans for training sessions that will be used to correct the problems identified. The coach usually applies some skills which are usually gained through formal education and training or through experience and observation (Knowles et al 2005). This includes the use of an appropriate coaching philosophy to learn the psychological aspects of sportspeople and set the stage for performance within a sports team. A coaching philosophy
