Side Foot Kick

INTRODUCTION: In the past 50 years, athletes from virtually every sport have undergone a rapid evolution in strength, size and quickness. This has led to an increase in the demands of power and strength required to be a successful athlete (Leach, 2000). With competition levels rising, sports such as soccer are becoming more sophisticated because of the necessity for stronger shots and quicker passing (Sakamoto et al., 2016). Therefore, the importance of using the correct kicking technique to get the ball from point a to b in the most efficient and effective manner has never been so vital to successfully completing an action in a game such as a pass, clearing a ball or scoring a goal. Amongst various kicking techniques, the instep kick and the …show more content…

With the decreased amount of space and time on the ball a soccer player has, coaches are beginning to advise the use of instep kick more often, in order to quickly get the ball to their teammate, or to score goals passed bigger goalkeepers (Haines et al., 2012). However, there are question as to whether the instep kick or the side foot kick is the most effective method of kicking technique to produce maximum velocity along with accuracy. Currently, the results of the research regarding this have been inconsistent. Therefore, investigating this is important because the seconds and inches a soccer player has to complete a successful action is crucial to overall performance. To solve this problem, it is necessary to determine the biomechanics of an instep soccer kick and side foot kick and then find the correlations that can made from these kicks to maximizing velocity and accuracy. By understanding this relationship, coaches can develop training regimes that will improve the success of their players on the
