Why Georgetown and how will it prepare me for a future as a physician – 1-2 pages, separate document
A potential incoming college freshman struts with confidence through the sliding doors of the Student Center, inhaling the freshly prepared pizza ready to be served at Sbarros, and sees the smiling faces as Pride Leaders try to convince each individual to enroll at Hofstra University; yet fail to admit that every university has its limitations and failed expectations. A journalist from U.S. News reports, “Hofstra University 's ranking in the 2016 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, 135.” (Hofstra University)
Why should a student attend an HBCU, some may ask. Those considering attending college should attend an HBCU no matter what their race or ethnicity may be. Many people think HBCUs are only African American colleges due to what the acronym stands for, Historically Black Colleges and Universities. According to CollegeXpress, “HBCUs do primarily serve African American students, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to have a limited cultural experience. On the contrary, people from all over the world come to the United States to attend HBCUs, which results in diverse student bodies.”(1) Anyone can attend and sometimes when an individual is not black and decides to attend an HBCU, scholarships are given because they want to show that they are willing to accept anyone, regardless of their race. Some HBCUs that are listed as being the best are: Hampton University, Howard University, Morehouse College, and Spelman College, but they are just a few of many out there to attend. There are also several famous people who attended HBCUs: Jesse Jackson, Wanda Sykes, Samuel Jackson, Toni Morrison, and Oprah Winfrey. Many students that have attended an HBCU love the friendly environment, the diversity, and the knowledge gained. If a student is not financially stable, the HBCU is willing to work out payment arrangements and help out in an effort for the student to receive the education that they deserve. It appears that a large portion of those that attend Virginia Union University came because of the cultural experience or because someone in their family attended and they want to continue the legacy. There are over 100 HBCUs in the world, which include public, private, two year, and four year institutions. Most HBCUs have small class siz...
When my first grade teacher asked me what I wanted to be in the future I told her, “I want to be a doctor.” My answer stayed exactly the same when my eleventh grade English teacher asked the question. Ever since I was little science has always captured my interest. I was fascinated by the way our body worked and how everything had an explanation behind it.
My decision to go to Anderson University was based solely on the fact that they are the only school in the state of South Carolina with my major. While attending Anderson University, I plan to major in Homeland Security
Coming out of my senior high school was one of the most difficult tasks I 've been given up to this point in my life. I was overwhelmed, excited, sad, busy, and uncertain of the near impending future. The past 13 years of my life I had been studying, practicing, playing, and working my way towards a brighter future. I could see the future in front of me, it was as if I could reach out and touch it. It was almost like getting a shot at the doctors, I knew it was what was best for me but I was terrified anyway. But I pushed aside my fears and on August 8, 2015, I set foot on a college campus, my home for the next four years. I knew why I was there though; I came to college in order to channel the love I have for my country into the motivation necessary to take the next step up the ladder towards a constitutional law degree, a degree I’ll use to protect this country and the people who reside in it. But to truly understand why I came to college, I have to start at the beginning.

Again, Starkville, Mississippi is the home place of Mississippi State University. Starkville is a rather small city with a population of about 25,000 people. Most residents of Starkville can tell anyone that Mississippi State “makes up the city” (Dew 1). In fact, Starkville is known as “Mississippi’s College Town.” Because Starkville is so small, the community is very close knit and highly supportive of the university. The university itself contains about 20,000 students. In comparison, Louisiana State University holds about 31,000 students. Therefore, Mississippi State is a great choice for anyone looking for a college with plenty of students,
One of the most important deciding factors in finding colleges is whether I like the campus and school itself. Considering my sisters live in Blacksburg, my family and I have traveled quite often to visit them, so much that I have even become acquainted to the streets and locations of different restaurants and buildings. I absolutely love the surroundings in Blacksburg because it is just a relaxing, beautiful campus. The buildings are all made of matching stone that are handsomely designed to almost look like castles. The rural landscape of mountains and trees is as colorful and splendid as a masterful painting, especially during fall when all the leaves are changing to red hues. However, Penn State is not much different. I have only been to University Park once when I was younger to see a football game at Beaver Stadium. But I have vi...
An already thriving interest in Southern History was strengthened when I studied North Carolina History from 1524 to 1835 with the preeminent North Carolina Historian, Alan Watson which was an unforgettable experience for someone who aspires to pursue Southern History. The course increased my understanding of the area’s past as well as the present. Furthermore, I took a US Regional History seminar that focused on the Reconstruction Era to the Reagan Revolution. Dr. Monica GIsolfi chose invigorating topics that incited fresh perspectives. Conscious efforts to connect the past to events that are actively occurring added an innovative dimension to this learning experience. Extensive historiography allowed us to evaluate issues of race, from slavery to the Jim Crow South, and how it connects to current issues like police brutality and mass
Every year millions of students are faced with a decision that will greatly affect their future, choosing the right college. In the fall of 2013, approximately 21.8 million students attended American colleges and universities (Fast Facts). Making sure you choose the right college is important because it will affect your future and it will determine what kind of education you will receive. When choosing the right college, a few things that need to be considered are the cost, the academics, and the campus (As You Research Colleges).
The second I stepped onto the campus, I knew that it was where I wanted to be and I felt like I was at home. The atmosphere felt friendly and family-like, the campus and the surrounding area was beautiful, academics are amazing, and the athletics and their facilities are great. The most appealing of these factors to me was the outstanding criminal justice program. This really caught my eye because my long-term goal after college is to work in the criminal justice field as a criminal investigator or a crime scene investigator. Not only does UNF have a great criminal justice program with outstanding professors that were, at one point, in the criminal justice field, but they also have great ties with the FBI and Jacksonville Sheriffs Office,
As a young woman growing up in an urbanized setting and attending public schools all of my life, when the time came to start planning and searching for colleges, I searched for schools that I felt fit my persona, that I would be comfortable attending for some of the most integral years of my life. My search included schools such as Temple University, and Pennsylvania State University, higher education institutions that allowed me to challenge myself, but at the same time would put me in a setting where I would be with others just like myself, fitting into the standard American university fashion.
When people head off to college. They have a very tough decision to make. That is to choose the right college that suits them best. In addition, people always argue about which school is best. Wichita State University is a great campus with a lot of substantial academics. However, people always have an ideal college atmosphere that would enjoy. To put it another way, there is always improvements people see to enhance the college experience. Such as Wichita State University compared to an ideal campus environment.
I went on the trip with my brother and four other students who were picked by the teachers. When we went to the college we went on a tour of the campus where we learned some history like that cookies and cream was created at SDSU. We picked out two classes that we would like to visit I picked civil engineering and aviation. Civil engineering was very confusing and consisted of long complicated equations that I didn’t understand so I knew that I didn’t want to do that in college. Aviation was my favorite class because we saw the planes up close and met a former student who is now in the military and we also got to mess around with a flight simulation. I was also picked for a alternate for another camp called MCOLS or Mountaineer Cadet Officer Leadership School which would also teach me how to be an even greater student in
