There is a bulletin board on which the teachers have displayed all students written work. Displaying students work on a bulletin board sends message that the teachers value student’s work. Displaying student’s work encourages students to learn. It tells them that its ok to be messy and that the mistakes are part of learning. Along on the bulletin board, students’ names are displayed on the classroom door and on other work is displayed on the classroom’ closet doors. Classroom posters are great method to comprehend learning through vision. Along with the students’ work, this first grade classroom’s walls are also decorated with beautiful, colorful, educative posters. The poster’s bright colors attract children’s attention. She has a behavior pocket chart. Each pocket has a student’s name and 5 cards that represent a good or a bad behavior. Yellow is not a good behavior it tells a student that he could do better. If a student gets red card, he/she will get a note or call home. Purple is a great, above and beyond behavior. When a students get a purple card, they get a ticket to use a computer, sit close to their friend for a day, get a prize or use a computer for 15 minutes the next day. The teacher also gives a tiger bills. Tiger bills are the school official currency that students can use in the school store to buy things such as pencils, toys or …show more content…
However, she also never avoids or let go of inappropriate behavior. When ever she saw an inappropriate behavior of students, she talked to them and make them understand how their behavior is unaccepted and how they could do better. She talks to students directly looking into their eyes and sometimes even got to their level (sitting on the knees on floor). She models herself for students to behave in good way. The teachers used words and a lots of praising to make students to pay attention and behave in an appropriate acceptable way. She advice me that it is very important that the students’ behavior is addressed, good or bad, because that’s how they learn and understand the difference between acceptable and unacceptable behavior. Having clear classroom rules, instructions, and addressing student’s issues and behavior makes easy for teacher to manage a
Williams it’s very busy with learning stuff everywhere. The classroom has different section called ‘centers’ like the library. In the middle is where the desk are placed they are grouped into 5-6 student at each table. I immediately noticed some negative behavior management on the part of the teacher by yelling at the students that wasn’t listening to her instructions. Another behavior management tool that doesn’t seems to work completely well was the point system that give or take a point from any student based on their behavior or action throughout the day. Most students seem to not be so thrilled or fazed by losing a point or when they gained one. But the teacher used this system quite frequent to make her point and take action. An action taking by the teacher that I felt was problematic is when she questioned a student that was better behaved, if another student was misbehaving. This action could lead to negative behavior for child-child interaction and
For my after school program observation I chose to observe the after-school program at Washington Elementary. This after-school program is held in a small gym and since the gym is used during the day for school activities there was no real floor plan to the program. A small carpet was set in the middle of the gym for circle time and the supplies and check in sheet were kept on a table. The rest of the room was filled with tables that are used for school breakfast.
The physical layout in this classroom consists of the students’ desks in small groups around the classroom and three small group tables at the front of the room, side of the room, and back of the room. There are also cabinets up againt the walls and drawers in the counter in the back of the room. They have the alphabet twice on the wall and numbers one through twenty on the wall, along with pictures that show each number. The room is not very colorful because it is a bluish white color, but the things on the wall make it more comfortable. There is a master schedule on the wall as well. There are labels around the entire room like wall, chair, desk, window, door, etc. There is a Smartboard in the front of the room behind one of the group tables, and two computers beside it. There is also a board behind the Smartboard. To the right of the Smartboard in the c...

I officially began my career as a student teacher in Spanish on August 25, 2014 at Memorial High School in Smallville, Ohio. I work under the guidance of Mrs. Santer, my mentor teacher, who has been introducing WMHS students to the wonderful world of languages for over 30 years. This year Mrs. Santer is teaching various levels of Spanish (Advanced Placement, IV, III, and I) as well as French I.
Educators have the biggest influence on student’s beliefs and experiences. Every classroom should have a positive and social learning atmosphere (Classroom Management for Elementary Teachers, 1994). Setting rules and expectations the first day is very important. All procedures and behavior expectations will be clearly stated, and practiced. I will implement the traffic light to let students know how they are behaving. Green for excellent behavior, yellow for ok behavior red for unsatisfactory behavior. I will ask a student why think the issue is occurring. Then ask what should be done if it keeps occurring. Then send a letter home to the student parents (Zaus, 2010). If there is an improvement, I will give positive reinforcement to motivate the student have appropriate behavior (Classroom Management for Elementary Teachers,
The event that I attended for the interpreter observation requirement was an event that occurred in the classroom and took place in order to provide interpretation for a guest speaker, Richard McGann, who was Deaf and blind. The event was held at the University of Pittsburgh during the Intro to Interpreting American Sign Language-English class taught by Jessica Adams on Tuesday, November 10th at 5:30PM and the interpreted lecture took place in a typical classroom located on the third floor of the Cathedral of Learning. The classroom used for the guest lecture was the same room that the class meets at regularly, so there had been no special modifications made in order to accommodate the
The classroom is bright, with one wall being made up of windows, the others have student’s work posted. There are signs to remind students of the rules, the alphabet and numbers are listed and placed where everyone is able to see them. Two dry erase boards are on opposite ends of the room. There is ample cubby space, one for each student to place personal items such as a coat or backpack. The science area is home for ants at this point but has been home to many different species throughout the school year. The library area has a lamp with a rainbow of colors all around it and gives plenty of light to those who spend time reading there. There was no specific writing area set aside; the students are encouraged to write at their seats throughout the day.
In the 21st century, teachers experience many behavioral issues with students in the classroom and face challenges that are very difficult to resolve. School districts have different expectations about how students must behave during school and teachers have their own expectations about how students must behave in their classroom. Every educator has different classroom expectations and students must follow specific standards; therefore, the responsibility of the teacher is to discuss the standards with all students and make sure those expectations are clear. According to Jones and Jones (2016), teachers whose students made greater achievement gains were observed establishing rules and procedures, and carefully monitoring student’s work. In
The teacher that I observed was Mrs. Cynthia Carney. She is the kindergarten teacher at Greystone Elementary school. As my first time in the classroom, I tried to observe as much as possible. I had a great first impression of the classroom, it is a very positive environment, and the teacher has definitely established a clear routine and rules that the students follow. The teacher did a very brief (5-10 minute) science lesson/introduction to the unit on weather. Although the teacher did not inform my partner and I about the exact objectives for the lesson, it was clear that she wanted the students to learn about making observations about weather. Her objective
"The important thing is not so much that every child should be taught, as every child should be instilled with the wish to learn."
During the first day of school, a variety of different students enter the classroom. These students are excited and nervous, they have their parents by their sides who are observing the classroom walls and arrangement. From the minute the students enter the classroom, students are observing the classroom environment and notice the everything. Everything in the classroom needs to have a purpose, but provide a pleasant environment. When preparing and organizing the classrooms, teachers need to consider the different variables that impact the classroom. Classrooms can be disorganized if the walls are cluttered and have no meaning The organizations of the desks, the wall decorations, and the seating arrangements significantly impact the physical environments. Students are like sponges, they soak up everything that surrounds them. In the article A comparison of actual and preferred classroom environments as perceived by middle school students in the Journal of School Health stated “studies have shown that classroom environments are closely related to a number of aspects of student
I attended a second grade class at Smallville Elementary on February 22, 2014; the class began promptly at 0855. There are 26 children in this second grade class. There are 15 male students and 11 female students. The student diversity is 2 Hispanics, 1 African-American, 1 East Indian, and 1 New Zealander (White but with an extreme accent). Three children were left-handed.
On the next two sections the same activity and same class discussion. While students are doing their activity I am secretly observing their attitudes; the way they speak, the way they move and the way they perform their tasks. I was very careful with my words that time, for me not to commit mistakes and because I want to get the attention of my students I remained serious all throughout the
It was a cold day when I visited Overlea high school and observed all that was happening in the school. The schools looked as if it was built before 20 years. The walls had black dust on it, there were chips and chocolate wrappers in the corner and the green grass was wet. In the morning at 7am I saw yellow colored buses filled with twenty five students coming to drop them at the school. Near the flagpole there were many students that belonged to other school standing and waiting for their bus. Those students were acting as if they were going to a jail and were never going to be released. There was lot of traffic and the mood of the students was lazy. It seemed liked they were tried of coming to school; they carried bags filled with books. I saw a boy who came out of the bus with no bag and nothing in his hands. A girl was dressed up as if it was summer. She had worn blue shorts, black flip flops, and white tank top. Her face looked absent without makeup and jewelry.
