In regard to social justice, Christians must have a clear intellectual grasp of what it entails; and the Biblical principles that guide him or her in their support of individual, church, and state social action. Christians also have a duty to apply those sound principles wisely to the major social problems of the early part of the 21st century. How individual believers and the church at large address these issues will impact many lives and bring great glory (or shame) to the name and gospel of Jesus Christ. It is of course axiomatic that any social action be motivated and implemented in a spirit of true Christian justice, grace, and love.
In the final analysis, recognizing that life can and should be just, though not always fair, Christians

So in the event that I take a seat and intentionally handle this transaction, it’s alright for my cash to go to remote countries to execute other individuals under the term of security and ensuring opportunity, however I can't give my neighbor a sandwich when he's hungry. I want to be socially responsible and substantiate that a great many kids in America eat breakfast or lunch when they are in school in the event that they are not able to have dinner.
Republicans contend that their proposition would spare $261 billion in the following decade by controlling extortion, trimming waste, and bailouts. Democrats assert the bill would put the weight of deficiency diminishment on the backs of poor people, as the bipartisan Congressional Budget Office gauges it will kick 1.8 million individuals off of nourishment stamps by slicing $35.8 billion from the system, among different slices to social welfare activities. Should slices be made to residential social projects to ensure the guard spending plan?

But it makes no sense to me why Republicans are hard core prolife, but yet want to cut all social programs that would help people raise their kids who can't afford it. It seems very hypocritical to me. Not to mention the fanatic pro-lifers – I’ve never heard one offer from their groups to create support programs for low income people to raise children. When I or anyone I know, cares about an issue – I donate money and time to the cause. I just don’t understand it, and it makes me question the entire Republican Party, even though I make a lot of money and am supposed to be republican.”
The Christian faith focuses on the orientation of the human heart behind human thoughts and actions. Living by faith is a beautiful alternative to the way people think of themselves and the way they live in relation to others in their daily lives (Merrick, 2014). Christians see themselves in terms of God’s profound love for them but not in terms of what they do. The teachings of the Christian faith; nonviolence, non-retaliation, inward integrity, selflessness, and love your neighbor as yourself provide the framework for ethical thinking. Although, adopting belief in Christianity can bring forth confusion in the heart and mind causing agony of learning to sacrifice one’s rightful claims for personal justice for the restoration of another (Merrick, 2014). Unconditional forgiveness is difficult to understand because spiritual forgiveness and actual costly forgiveness is viewed as the same in the gospel. If you do not forgive, then one does not have faith in God’s forgiveness as it really is. Christianity influences a person thinking and behavior developing wisdom which requires faith. The faith that is needed to reorient the heart away from selfishness to selflessness.
Christians wi... ... middle of paper ... ... e; for instance depending on their economic situation, or amount of free time and number of family commitments. Whether it be giving a few pounds a month to various charities, or getting directly involved in groups such as Chrisitian aid, God will honour all those who dedicate a fraction of their lives to the poverty stricken. God does not expect a million mother Teresa's, but what he does desire is that every Christian makes some sort of contribution.
In 1630, the Massachusetts Bay Company set sail to the New World in hope of reforming the Church of England. While crossing the Atlantic, John Winthrop, the puritan leader of the great migration, delivered perhaps the most famous sermon aboard the Arbella, entitled “A Model of Christian Charity.” Winthrop’s sermon gave hope to puritan immigrants to reform the Church of England and set an example for future immigrants. The Puritan’s was a goal to get rid of the offensive features that Catholicism left behind when the Protestant Reformation took place. Under Puritanism, there was a constant strain to devote your life to God and your neighbors. Unlike the old England, they wanted to prove that New England was a community of love and individual worship to God. Therefore, they created a covenant with God and would live their lives according to the covenant. Because of the covenant, Puritans tried to abide by God’s law and got rid of anything that opposed their way of life. Between 1630 and the 18th century, the Puritans tried to create a new society in New England by creating a covenant with God and living your life according to God’s rule, but in the end failed to reform the Church of England. By the mid 1630’s, threats to the Puritans such as Roger Williams, Anne Hutchinson, and Thomas Hooker were being banned from the Puritan community for their divergent beliefs. 20 years later, another problem arose with the children of church members and if they were to be granted full membership to the church. Because of these children, a Halfway Covenant was developed to make them “halfway” church members. And even more of a threat to the Puritan society was their notion that they were failing God, because of the belief that witches existed in 1692.
In stark contrast to this dogmatic statement, the basis for a Christian attitude is found in 1 Peter 3:8-9, that “Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.” It is obvious that these two philosophies are not concurrent by any means of the word, thus eliminating any possibility of substantial agreement between them. Although Rand’s wholly repulses my belief system, I may still weigh the quality of her writing in a logical
One of the major issues in the cultural war is the idea of abortion. The Republican Party supports the human life amendment while opposing abortion funding. They “assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed [upon]” (Republican Party Platform ). The Republican Party also strongly promotes adoption and abst...
They believe that fighting this war to defund Planned Parenthood is worth it and in any case, one that speaks to a basic point for the Republican Party. A strong Republican stated “If Republicans can’t fight against the sale of dead baby parts, then we probably can’t fight for anything.”(Akins, September 2015) That is a strong statement because if they don’t fight for it what is the point in having them apart of the government system that is for that people who supposed to be run by the people. They view is really what’s right for the people and what is seen to be savage. The Republicans focuses to the recordings that have uncovered Planned Parenthood practices and talk plainly about their objective. However, there are majority of the conservatives that would not vote in favor of any spending bill that keeps subsidizing for Planned Parenthood like Cruz, Mulvaney, and
With our national debt rising every year, there are many things that are contributing to it. Programs like food stamps benefits are meant for poor people; however, there are many that will take advantage of this program throughout history. Alex Roarty, claims that since the great depression over forty millions of people use food stamps benefits because of the loose eligibilities required and suggest that forty-one percent of people believe that it is due to edibility requirements and our own economy (“Most Americans Want Tougher Food Stamp Requirements”). With the nation’s debt soaring into the negative trillions, setting up piles of debt for our younger generation and developing poor eating habits this program is in jeopardy of deteriorating.
In Christianity, the emphasis is placed on love of God rather than on obeying his will. People must believe that God is merciful and loves them as well. As a reflection of God’s love, people must also love other people (and the whole humanity in general) and forgive their enemies.
“We did not come to fear the future. We came here to shape It.”; quoted by Barack Obama. This quote represents that all gender and races can come together to make a better society. Human beings were not put on earth to live in fear or fear the future that awaits them. Their mission is to serve a special purpose in society. By helping to create a better society, there would be fewer problems to worry about in cases such as education, economic, social, and health problems. By all races and genders accepting and respecting one another personal beliefs, they can create a more just, sustainable, fair society. “Mending Wall” by Robert Frost, “Theme for English B” by Langston Hughes, “Ain’t I a Woman” by Sojourner Truth, and ‘No Bikini” by Ivan E.

While their views are correct, they are also very incorrect. They say it causes harm when in fact it does not. Fetuses are not neurologically active until twenty weeks”…The killing of a neurologically inactive fetus does no greater a harm than killing a mouse, and in fact decidedly less- a mouse is neurologically active, and though it lacks a complex cerebral cortex, it has a brain of suitable complexity to perceive pain, a fetus however cannot perceive pain” (Carrier). Therefore, The Republican Parties argument of the fact that it is immoral due to the fact they feel pain is incorrect. Nevertheless, they do have many other points on why abortion cannot be seen as a moral thing. Even if the woman cannot afford to go through with the pregnancy, many republicans would like not supply help with resources and anything that they would need (Republican views). However, of course what one person thinks is moral one person may think is immoral (Carrier). For instance, The Democratic Party has a completely opposed view on
Social Justice is about making society function better – providing the support and tools to help turn lives around. This is a challenging new approach to dealing with poverty in all its forms. It is not about income poverty alone.(SJS) Throughout this essay I will explore why Poverty is a primary issue when striving for Social Justice and how, we as professionals, can attempt to overcome this by working together to achieve a fairer more just society. Social Work, Primary Education and Community Learning and Development are working together collaboratively to achieve Social Justice. I will discuss the changes that have taken place in our professions and the guidelines and regulations that we must adhere to. In addition to this I will examine the positive and negative outcomes of my group experience working together with CLD, Social Work and Education Students. I will also address the historical perspective in addition to the philosophical perspectives.
Social justice is a core value in the social work field. We define social justice as, “all citizens would possess equal fundamental rights, protection, opportunities, obligations and social benefits (Kirst-Ashman & Hull, 2015, p. 29). Unfortunately, we understand there are many members in today’s society that are not receiving social justice. Some may not want help and believe that s/he is able to do it on their own and then there are the individuals that we may not know about that could really use our help. Our jobs as social workers is to help those who need help no matter if they are rich, poor, disabled, white, Hispanic, it does not matter because everyone should be treated equally. As NASW states, “The original mission of social work had much to do with championing the rights of society’s most vulnerable members, from children to homeless people to the physically disabled” (NASW: National Association of Social Workers, 2015, para. 1).
There are countless social justice issues that Christian ethicists have the opportunity to address. The aim of Christian ethics is to determine one’s moral responsibility based off of a biblical framework. When discussing many social justice issues, it is easy to decipher precisely what scripture has to say, and what humanity’s moral stance should be. Yet, in many ways, humanity will still struggle to accept that moral and ethical responsibility, even when that moral stance is clearly mapped out in scripture. One such issue is poverty. This paper will look closely at the biblical teachings on poverty, the key ethical standpoints of sacredness of life, love, and justice, as well as the moral responsibilities Christians face. It seems,
To understand the basis of the ethics that Christians live by the Biblical story must be interpreted. The Bible passes judgement on many things that Christians would come into contact with at some point in their lives. These things include cases such as; abortion, contraception, euthanasia and homosexuality. All of which are negatively referred to in the Bible. However authority today views these issues differently because they use secular ethics in conjunction with their decision making. Examples of authority include governments and work places. This is so that a good outcome may be maximized and had by most of a population, known as a Utilitarian approach. It is inevitable that a few will disagree but this number outweighs the good of the plenty. This secular schemed way of thinking can sometimes severely conflict with the ethical interpretation that is put forth in the Bible. Ultimately when Christians follow the Bible’s ethical basis they will gain the reward of their soul ascending to heaven in the afterlife. This is an incentive to follow Christian ...
