I am happy with my scores from the VIA Survey of Charter Strengths. I found the scores to be fitting with who I am. My top strength was spirituality, sense of purpose, and faith. The questionnaire says that, “my beliefs shape my actions and are a source of comfort.” I grew up in a Christian home and then over my high school years lost my spiritual connection. My first son was born and shortly after that I was drawn back to having a relationship with God. I have worked hard to understand where I want to be with my faith and now feel that my spirituality is stronger then it has even been. My relationship with God absolutely gives me a purpose, shapes my actions, and is a source of comfort. I can use this strength in my career because I feel that
I am making career choices based on where God is calling me to go. If I am faced with a challenge in work, I can use my strength of spirituality to be a constant reminder that God is doing work in my life not only for me but through me for other people as well. My second strength is capacity to love and be loved. The questionnaire says that I, “value close relationships with others, in particular those in which sharing and caring are reciprocated.” I absolutely value my close relationships. My closest relationships are with my two children and my mother. These relationships mean the world to me. I also have close relationships with friends that I value as well. Having close relationships are important to me because of the connection that it brings. I can use this strength in my career because I understand the importance of connecting with people. Although, not all relationship will become close the importance of connecting with people is still valid. Especially in a leader or teacher role, I think the need to care for others is strong. When people feel that they are cared about they typically are more willing to listen and learn.
In this book, the authors Tom Rath and Barry Conchie examine the question “What are the keys to being an effective leader?” To answer this question they had a team that reviewed data collected from Gallup polls. The data came from interviews from 20,000 senior leaders, over a million teams and more than fifty years of Gallup Polls of the most admired leaders in the world. The authors then had the team do a study of more than 10,000 followers to find out why they follow the influential leaders in their life.
Understanding one’s strengths and weaknesses is essential to becoming and being a good leader. “Purposeful leaders understand who they are” (Mayfield, 2013). The author of this paper has had previous opportunities to lead, and will reflect on her experiences using the assigned inventory. She will evaluate her skill set and discuss ways she can be an advocate for change with the hospital and community in which she is employed. Lastly, she will identify one personal goal for her leadership growth and explore different avenues for obtaining that goal.
The strengths of this design is that there are so many resources available for veterans for free to help improve their skills or learn a new skill. Some states offer more resources for veterans than others and many employers are given incentive just for hiring a veteran. In addition, by design this program I really did not have to spend any money on any assessment. The only weakness is when designing this assessment there is no way to determine the validity and reliability.
Through taking the assessment I learned that my top 3 strengths are social, language, and self. (Literacynet, 2016) My strongest strength was knowledge of self, scoring a 4.43. (Literacynet, 2016) People who have this strength enjoy alone time to think things through. They also like working on projects by themselves, learning through “trial and error”. My second strongest strength was language, scoring a 4.14, (Literacynet, 2016) this is basically saying people with this strength have a love for words, seeing them in books, writing and talking, even story telling. My last of my three strengths was social, scoring a 4.13, (Literacynet, 2016) meaning people with this skill like to talk and have good “social” skills, and like talking to and learning from others.
Strengths are gifts that we have that we us to our benefit, but we must use them in a holistic, Bible-based, and asset-based view. Strengths on the other hand are what we use to help define our unique design. Strengths are what we rely on primarily, such as if we are good at intellectual, we will primarily use those strengths instead of using emotional or physical strengths because we do not have a good measure on them. When we focus solely on our weaknesses, we will not fully understand our unique design. Weaknesses are wake the evil one uses that make us doubt are life calling because we are missing the mark on what our stre...
Leaders can have a powerful impact on the futures of many, and the way in which one approaches leadership is paramount to the type of impact one will have. Continual growth in the areas of knowledge I have and seek to acquire, as well as recognizing my leadership style and utilizing my personal strengths to the fullest, is vital to the successful implementation of my personal philosophy of leadership.
Many Scholars characterize the core qualities and skills necessary for an effective leader. Useem defines leadership as “Creating a vision and translating that vision into actions”. Historically, an effective leader was assumed to be exceptionally knowledgeable, authoritative, and dominate. Those leaders applied the command and control method to lead an organization. With the passage of time, this definition has been changed. The modern definition of an effective leader is honest, courageous, trustworthy, inspirational, and result-oriented. Today’s leaders create shared values and vision, and empower others to achieve their targets.
When reflecting on my leadership styles, strengths and weaknesses I am rushed with thoughts, memories, regrets and actions of personal ways that I have handled past situations in the work place and ways that I plan to handle new situations at my new work place. I have had many successes with the way I handle my leadership role but there are also things that I wish that I could go back in time and change. The way some situations are handled, I think to myself, well this could have been done differently or I could have done this instead of what I did to enhance the outcome of the situation. There is always room for improvement in whatever job or task someone takes on and this is just one of those things. During the development of my PLAP, I have had the chance to weigh out my strengths and weaknesses of my leadership and it has been very effective to seeing where improving needs to be met. The plan has also let me evaluate the direction I hope to head in to achieve my leadership goals.
The results of the StrengthsQuest assessment were very interesting. In fact, I was surprised by how accurately the talents aligned with my goals and personality. My top five strengths were futuristic, input, arranger, responsibility, and intellection. I define futuristic as always thinking about the next steps or thinking about how my actions in the present will affect my future. Also, I define input as offering my perspective on things especially issues that I feel strongly about. Next, I define arranger as someone who likes to brings ideas together and consider the logistics when planning things. Furthermore, I define responsibility as doing the right thing and looking out for others. Lastly, I define intellection as a strength in someone
I ended up contacting 3 of my family members, and I told them to be brutality honest with me. I also told them whatever they said to me would not hurt my feelings. The four people I contacted where my brother, mom and dad. My dad said that my strengths where that I’m independent and I like to work on my own, that I was very determined to be successful, and that I am very driven to be the best at everything. She said my weaknesses where time management since I sometimes put off homework till last minute, that processes where hard for me to follow because I like to do things my way, he also said that I am very needy for approval after I have completed something. My mom said that I am a hard worker and feel the need to compete tasks fast, that I am a very loyal friend, and I am very determined to succeed in life. She said for my weaknesses that I can sometimes be selfish when it comes to work because I care about me succeeding more then others, she also said that me being a loyal friend is also a weakness because I care about them as much as I care about myself, and finally she said that I can sometimes get distracted easily. According to my brother my strengths are that I am very studious when it comes to school and work, also that I am very determined in life,
Other strengths include being self-confident, conscientious, diligent and determined. It was interesting to see my lower scores as well; the lowest average score was sensitivity (3.2), followed closely by self-assuredness and perception and empathy. Although I consider myself sensitive, I believe the sense of sensitivity does not apply as often towards others I interact with. For example, I often speak my mind and voice my opinion with little thought of the consequence or impact it might have on those around me. Thus, sensitivity is not one of my existing strengths, but rather an opportunity for growth. I also found it interesting to note how I scored significantly lower in the human skill, and higher in technical, which I did not expect. This score likely correlates with my score form the LTQ, which identified room for improvement in relating with
Strength is belief. People gain strength through taught spirituality and beliefs. This could be by believing in a religion or believing in a God. Religious people have a sense of spirituality strength with God, and those people believe that God will be there to guide them and to help them on their way through the tough times. Spirituality grows over time by love, faith, and hope that are felt during a personal experience. Love is one of the many ways that grow society spiritually. When a person believes positive and good; when they always do the right thing no matter what they think the outcome may be; when they give their all to help the wellbeing of others; that is when there is a great sense of spiritual strength in humanity. When people are successful in knowing what will help them grow, that’s when spirituality shines. Giving love and friendship to others makes humans grow spiritually. Love gives the strength to believe the good in others and to not be afraid to fight battles alone. Friendship provides the strength to trust others and be o...
When thinking about these two completely opposite results I asked myself why? Why did I get the scores that I had? Simply put, they are direct reflections of the number percentage that I scored for myself. I see myself as a very spiritual person, and with that in mind it makes up a great deal of what leads my life choices today. I have the beliefs and morals that I have now because of the spiritual involvement that I strive for. As for my lowest score, there is a perfectly logical explanation as well. While I endeavor to help others and put myself on the line for the benefit of another’s health, I often put my own physical wellness on the back burner. Whether that be properly exercising my body and giving it the nutrition that it needs or giving myself a little more self care, I find myself lacking. Thus, leading me to my final conclusion that something needs to change pertaining to my physical
