The word "catholic" means universal. Jesus created one universal church for all of mankind. The Catholic Church was established by Jesus with his words spoken in Matthew 16. Jesus asked his disciples "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" The disciples then offered various answers - "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." But the question that Jesus then asked was crucial: "But who do you say that I am?" The answer provided by Simon Peter set in motion the formation of the Catholic Church by Jesus. "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." With this answer, Jesus established the Catholic Church with Simon Peter designated the first Pope. But closer examination of the words of Jesus reveal that the selection was of divine nature. "For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father." As of today, there have been 265 Popes in direct succession to Peter. The position of Pope was established by Christ and the office has been maintained in an apostolic manner since the time of Christ. Although the Church has fragmented since the time of Christ with various leadership centers emerging, the apostolic line of succession in the Church is seated in Rome until this very day. Many throughout time have tried to rationalize away and deny the authority and structure of the Church as established by Jesus. In my heart I know that Catholic Church is the Church established by Jesus and has maintained a clear line of apostolic leadership to this very day. The Church has celebrated the sacraments and worshiped the Lord in essentially the same way since the time of
Apex United Methodist church has changed the way I look at life, and the way I want to live my life. Growing up, my parents made me go to church. It was like a chore - I had to do it. Like most other seven year olds in America, I woke up at 7:00 a.m. every Sunday morning looking forward to playing video games and spending time with my friends. Instead, I had to go get dressed in those fancy clothes, my mom had to brush and gel my hair, and then I had to spend two hours listening to boring sermons

Introduction This paper is on the ethnography of a Roman Catholic Church. It will explore the subculture of the Catholic Society in St Cuthbert's Church. “Catholics share with other Christians a belief in the divinity of Jesus Christ, the son of God made man who came to earth to redeem humanity's sins through His death and resurrection.” (Stanford, 2011). Catholics are a religious group of people who believe in one God in three persons, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. I decided
goal of this paper is to determine if the Catholic religion has continued to modernize since Vatican II. In order to help analyze the modernization of Catholicism, this paper will examine the immigration of Catholics to America in the 19th and 20th centuries. Throughout this paper, I will reference Dr. Julie Byrne’s commentary, a professor in American religious history at Duke University, as a means of explaining how Catholicism has assimilated into American culture. Next, this paper suggests three

Water Baptism I could not decide over the holidays on which subject to write my church research paper on until I found out that my niece and two nephews were getting baptized on the upcoming weekend at their Catholic Church. I realized that my knowledge on water baptism is very limited and I have never really done any research on this interesting topic. The two religions I am not familiar with are Catholicism and Atheism. The first peer reviewed paper is by Laura A. Hunter titled, Explaining Atheism: Testing the Secondary Compensator Model and Proposing an Alternative. The second peer reviewed paper is by Harvey Hill titled, American Catholicism?: John England and "The Republic in Danger". Some similarities about Atheism and Catholicism is that both have a large following. They both have morals and codes for their followers to abide by. Both
order to reach the ultimate destiny with God in His Kingdom. To most Christians, including Catholics, living a life for God is advanced with His help and His help only. This can occur in many different forms, and some of the most widely known examples of people who have felt the hand of God personally reach into their lives are Saints. In the Catholic religion, saints are people especially celebrated by the Church and its people. What many people may not know, however, is that we can all be saints.
Christ (Travers 2017). In this paper, I propose that beyond Easter’s commercialised aspects, the Easter celebration is the most important event in the liturgical year to Catholics and also shows signs of challenges that arise in the church. With the support of secondary sources, we develop an understanding of the significance of Easter to Catholics through a detailed description of the Easter Rituals. Subsequently, by analysing an interview conducted with an active Catholic, we witness the experience
