SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital When I think of Cardinal Glennon, I picture the prestigious hospital that it is. From the new and improved technology to the colorful walls of the halls, this hospital has become a number one place for children in need. I see children being accommodated to their medical needs by being pushed around in a wagon that has an IV pole with it. Rooms that come alive with colors and pictures to help ease the anxiety of being in a hospital. And most of all, I see the quality care that keeps these patients going. As Dr. Seuss said, “A person’s a person, no matter how small” (2017). SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital is a non-profit facility that manages the care of pediatric patients (“SSM Health”, …show more content…
Being hospitalized as a kid is very intimidating. Many times, there are cases where a child’s length of stay becomes prolonged. “It’s important to understand children and teenagers are not the same as adults, which means they have different needs and levels of understanding.” (Geitner, n.d.). Childhood is such a crucial time for growth and development. Therefore, it is important that they do not miss out on important milestones for their age. “Children have different needs at different ages and their emotional development and cognitive abilities evolve with age.” (Geitner, n.d.). Cardinal Glennon supports the development of children through Child Life Services. “The mission of the Child Life department at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital is to advocate for the psychosocial, developmental, emotional and educational needs of all our patients and families.” (“SSM Health”, n.d.). Going through this program, incorporating more developmental resources into the children’s lives is one improvement. Teachers could come in on a regular basis to keep the children up to date on their learning according to their developmental levels. Providing adequate peer time for the kids can encourage them to socialize and express themselves rather than being isolated in a bed for days on end. Having books of different reading levels readily available to children to use at their leisure would help take their mind off of things and decrease anxiety while also practicing their literacy skills. Cognitive stimulation is necessary for developmental

The cost of Medical equipment plays a significant role in the delivery of health care. The clinical engineering at Victoria Hospital is an important branch of the hospital team management that are working to strategies ways to improve quality of service and lower cost repairs of equipments. The team members from Biomedical and maintenance engineering’s roles are to ensure utilization of quality equipments such as endoscope and minimize length of repair time. All these issues are a major influence in the hospital’s project cost. For example, Victory hospital, which is located in Canada, is in the process of evaluating different options to decrease cost of its endoscope repair. This equipment is use in the endoscopy department for gastroenterological and surgical procedures. In 1993, 2,500 cases where approximately performed and extensive maintenance of the equipment where needed before and after each of those cases. Despite the appropriate care of the scope, repair requirement where still needed. The total cost of repair that year was $60,000 and the repair services where done by an original equipment manufacturers in Ontario.

Children are divided into classrooms with a “master” teacher, a “regular” teacher, and two or three “associate” teachers. Klara attended Classroom, “A,” a stimulating and well-resourced classroom. Klara was observed for two hours on Monday from 9 am to 11 am and for two hours on Wednesday from 9 am to 11 am. During these two hours, classroom activities consisted of “free time,” “story time,” and an outside “play time.” A “master” teacher, a “regular” teacher, and two “associate” teachers were present during observations. Additionally, a total of eighteen children were in attendance during the observed days.
Upon doing some research, I found that a pediatrician's main duty, and the type of the work done in the career. According to Gaither (2016), the author examines who a pediatrician is and what this chosen career does in health care. According to Gaither (2016), a pediatrician’s main duty is to take care and to examine children to make sure they are in a healthy condition and are developing correctly. It also mentions that picking a pediatrician is a very important choice for the future and well being of your child. However, to goes on to mention that pediatricians are very important to have because they have extensive knowledge of a child’s health, and a pediatrician can spot illnesses quickly and diagnose them effectively. This is further

...en who are there each week are incredibly inspirational, and they never seem to be discouraged, even though some of the patients have been there for five to six weeks in a row. I look forward to seeing their smiling faces each time I visit, yet I cannot help but hope they will not be there but will be at home the next time I visit. The children and youth I have met at Children’s Hospital have become dear friends, and they have taught me that leadership involves making the most of the talents we each have been given, and seeking excellece, not perfection.
As a pediatric hospitalist, there are a wide range of duties that must be completed for the safety and well-being of one’s patients. A duty amongst all physicians is caring for a patient’s illnesses. As a pediatrician, one must be involved in the physical, mental, and emotional upbringing of adolescents throughout every stage of development in good health as well as in illness. A pediatrician takes care of a child from a few weeks after birth to the age of twenty-one when the patient transfers to a new physician. The duties designated to all pediatricians is to reduce infant and child mortality rates, control diseases, make sure patients lead well-maintained lifestyles, and make easier the lives of children and adolescents with chronic conditions. Becoming a pediatrician would improve the lives of many children.
I was able to see how stressful it was for parents who also had children at home and had to be at the hospital taking care of their child. Also, for the first time I experienced having to deal with parents who were arguing about their child’s care. I realized how whenever the patient’s mom was out of the room, the child was behaving appropriately for his age, but when the mom would come back into the room, the child would behave differently.
